Odebrecht Energia received the

Installation Permit for the Corredor do

Senandes Wind Energy Complex, located

in Rio Grande, State of Rio Grande do

Sul. Granted by the State Environmental

Protection Foundation (FEPAM), the permit

allows for the installation of the complex’s

seven parks, which have a total capacity of

180.9 MW.

The first phase of the project, set to

begin in November, includes the installation

of four wind energy parks: Corredor do

Senandes II, III and IV and Vento Aragano I,

which have a total of 108 MW of installed

capacity. The development will receive

total investments of approximately R$

400 million and should begin to generate

energy at the end of 2013.

During the installation of the first

phase, some 1,000 direct and indirect job

opportunities will be generated, prioritizing

the contracting of local labor.

From October 10-19, Odebrecht Energia

performed the inspection at the factory

of the first component for the Corredor

Senandes Wind Energy Complex, Elevator

Transformer 1 with 127 MW of power,

supplied by Alstom. The inspections

of the substation yard equipment and

aerogenerators are already underway.

Investment in Alternative Energy Sources

The Santo Antônio Hydroelectric

Power Plant (HPP), an Odebrecht Energia

investment in Porto Velho, Rondônia,

activated yet another generation unit, the

development’s sixth. Now, only two turbines

are left before Power House 1, installed

along the right bank of Madeira River, enters

into full operation.

In 2015, when it will be fully operational,

the plant will have sufficient capacity to

supply more than 40 million people all over

the country. Its commercial operation began

in March of this year, nine months ahead of

time.

The total investment to install the Santo

Antônio HPP is R$ 16 billion, R$ 1.6 billion

of which is being directed toward social-

environmental actions.

On October 22, Odebrecht Oil and Gas

(OOG) launched its own social network,

called OOG Connection. The result of

a demand identified among Members,

the new tool promotes the sharing of

experiences and ideas, in addition to

reducing the distance between the

professionals. Its characteristics include the

transparency and uniformity of the shared

information, global scope, innovation and

participative culture.

Users can access OOG Connection via

the Intranet, called OOG Portal, to maintain

and reinforce the institutional alignment,

favoring the synergy between tools. OOG

Connection obeys the same lines as the

main social networks – with a profile,

photo albums, wall for messages, groups,

markers, notifications and events –, which

facilitates the recognition and use by

Members. Besides this, it is also possible to

publish external information, such as the

recommendation of blogs, links to articles

and news and any other information

associated with the company or oil and gas

market.

“The social network is an informal

and fun means of communication, which

will allow people to know everything

that is going in a more casual way,” said

Jorge Mitidieri, Managing Director of BU-

Integrated Services.

OOG Launches Social Network

OOG Connection offers new forms of interaction for professionals and promotes a critical, pro-active spirit that results in constant improvements

Odebrecht Infraestrutura,

leader of the Linha 4 Sul

Consortium, responsible for

installing Line 4 of the Subway

in Rio de Janeiro’s Southern

Zone, received together

with the State Governor the

Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM),

better known as “Tatuzão”

(“Big Armadillo”). The official

delivery of the equipment

took place at the factory

Herrenknecht - Tunnelling

Systems, located in Schwanau,

Germany.

Unprecedented in Rio de

Janeiro, the equipment will

drill underground tunnels

from the neighborhoods

of Ipanema to Gávea,

without passing beneath the

buildings. There will also be

no explosions or opening of

ditches on the surface along

the streets.

“Tatuzão” will be

transported by ship from

Europe to Rio de Janeiro in 20

containers and is scheduled to

arrive at the start of 2013. The

assembly will take place from

March to August of next year,

A ‘Tatuzão’ for Rio de Janeiro

Representatives from Odebrecht Infraestrutura and Herrenknecht - Tunnelling Systems and the TBM that will be used in Rio de Janeiro. Along the 5.7 km of construction work in the Southern Zone, it will only be necessary to close 500 meters of streets

when it will begin operating,

starting at the General Osório

Station and heading toward

Gávea.

Weighing 2,000 tons

and extending 120 meters

in length by 11.5 meters in

diameter, Latin America’s

largest “Tatuzão” excavates

15-18 meters of tunnel per

day, four times faster than

the methods used in Rio de

Janeiro. At the same time

that it drills the earth, the

equipment also installs the

concrete rings that form the

tunnel.

The Linha 4 Sul Consortium

(formed by Odebrecht

Infraestrutura, Queiroz Galvão

and Carioca Engenharia)

will have 270 professionals

working exclusively to operate

“Tatuzão:” electro-technicians,

mechanics, operators and

supervisors who will be

broken up into three groups.

Three Brazilian Members are

being trained in Germany,

from where an additional 30

technicians will come to work

on the machine operation and

maintenance.

In a record time of 36 months, Odebrecht

Infraestrutura surpassed the mark of 50,000

tons of equipment assembled at the Santo

Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP)

in Rondônia. Estimates indicated that by

December 2015, the end of the construction

period, 118,000 tons will be prepared.

The assembly teams are responsible for

installing all of the plant’s equipment, such as

the turbines and generators, hydromechanical

and cargo lifting equipment, mechanical and

electrical auxiliary equipment, transmission

lines and substations, among others. With

2,000 Members, the Production sector

assembles 2,400 tons of equipment per month.

According to Nassin Agel Neto, Engineering

Manager, this record is unprecedented

compared to other hydroelectric power

plant construction projects. “It is a record for

assembly engineering that was never achieved

before,” said Neto. “We are creating a new

reference for the sector.”

The majority of the components included

in the Generation Units require pre-assembly

before going to the well. To boost productivity,

three warehouses were installed for pre-

assembly in areas located outside the Power

Houses. “We are completing a notable

achievement that will go down in dam builders’

history in Brazil and the rest of the world,” said

Miguel Figueiredo, Santo Antônio HPP Electro-

Mechanical Assembly Contract Director.

“With unity, humbleness, courage, trust and

commitment, and above all, Workplace Safety,

we will reach the deadline, productivity and

quality levels we desire,” said Figueiredo.

agreement established with

CSN - Companhia Siderúrgica

Nacional, Odebrecht

Engenharia Industrial is

installation a rebar and wire rod

produce 500 tons per year.

There are currently 3,943

Members participating on the

project, which required 4,500

workers at the peak of the

construction work. The civil

construction work is tapering

off and the electromechanical

assembly services are now

earning steam.

In order to meet the demand

for labor during the project’s

civil and electromechanical

modern solutions to prevent

air pollution. According to

Fernando Cândido, Project

Manager, the noise emitted

for a person located near CSN

in Vila Santa Cecília, will be 50

decibels – equivalent to the

sound of an air conditioner.

The development will be

fully covered with steel

plates filled with fiberglass

that provide thermal

and acoustic insulation,

preventing the heat and

noise from “leaking” from the

unit into the environment.

“We are practically in front

of a hospital, but no one

who is admitted there will

realize when Long Steel is in

operation,” said Cândido. “The

plant will make less noise

than the traffic,” he said.

In addition to silent, the

unit will be “clean:” a series

of anti-pollution equipment,

primarily the so-called “dust

removers” – which vacuum

the solid particles and

prevent their release into the

air –, are being installed. CSN

Long Steel will also reuse 97%

of the water used in the steel

manufacturing process, with

the remaining 3% represented

by losses due to evaporation.

The plant will be the semi-

integrated type and will use

as raw material the metallics,

better known as scrap metal.

Steel from automobiles,

refrigerators, washing

machines and other products

will be purchased at junkyards,

melted and then transformed

into rebar – used primarily in

civil construction – and wire

rod, used to produce screens,

wire, screws and nails. CSN

plans to purchase 40,000 tons

of scrap metal per month.

in Education Through Work,

as well as for encouraging

the Educational Leader, who

is focused on growing and

helping people grow with

him or her,” said Lichtman.

“Certainly we will reap in the

good fruits,” she said.

Grow will be developed

in two modules: General

Knowledge, with 18 hours/

class, and Specific Knowledge,

with 32 hours/class. The

program is focused on

preparing workers to boost

productivity, with Production

13 months, with a course load

of 240 hours, and it is structured

based on the Organization’s

Sustainability Policy, which is

people-focused,” said Franscisco

Director in Angola.

Another initiative promoted

by the company within the

sphere of Workplace Safety

was the start of the Daily

Personalities in the Benguela

and Kwanza Sul projects. The

objective is to raise Members’

awareness as to the prevention

of accidents through lectures

that include the participation

of personalities from the

From October 9-12, Members from

the Moatize Expansion Project – a Vale

construction project being undertaken by

Odebrecht in Mozambique – participated in

the Dynamic Leadership Seminar. The initiative

promoted reflection on the Leader-Team

Member, increasing understanding on the

roles of each one.

According to consultant Angelo Veiga,

leading is the art of coordinating and

integrating people with different characteristics

and potentials through Education Through

Work, with a focus on surpassing results.

Consultant Marta Castro added a statement

by Norberto Odebrecht, the Organization’s

founder: “Leading is the capacity to motivate

other human beings in benefit of the

company’s objectives and priorities.”

Angelo Veiga opened the debate on the

importance of Communication between the

Leader and Team Member in the process of

interpersonal relationships. “The young talent

is like a high quality seed, with the potential

to bloom,” said Viega. “The company is like

fertile soil for planting it. The Entrepreneurial

Leader is the farmer who will care for that

which he or she develops. Communication

is like water, the sap that feeds the plant,” he

said.

Conflict management was also addressed

during the lecture by Marta Castro. “The

problem is not found in the existence of the

conflicts themselves, but rather in the way

we deal with them.” Based on this reflection,

Members were divided into teams to simulate

conflicts and effective ways to resolve them.

> FAST NEWS – AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS

For the second consecutive year,

Odebrecht was elected one of the

40 “Best Places to Work in Argentina”

according to the magazine Aper tura

– the main economy – and business-

focused publication in the country. With

533 points, Odebrecht earned 38th place.

Each year, the publication discloses

the ranking “ Top Employers in

Argentina” with the participation of

more than 350 companies. The l ist

was elaborated through a confidential

survey conducted with the directors and

professionals responsible for people

from the main companies operating

in the local market. The study focuses

the management of the People area

into five strategic points: Professional

Career, Remuneration, Workplace,

Working Hours and Conditions and

Training.

Braskem was awarded for the second

consecutive year by the Brazilian

Association of Corporate Communication

(ABERJE) for its internal communication

initiatives.

The distinction came from the

campaign focused on recognizing

the value of plastic, called “Plastic: In

All of Our Lives, in All Ways,” which

was disseminated throughout all the

company’s units in Brazil. The initiative

won the São Paulo regional phase and

will compete with other actions in the

national category.

The award is designed to recognize the

value those companies that stand out in

the relationship with their stakeholders.

The Odebrecht Infraestrutura

project at the Embraport Terminal

construction project, “Sustainable

Construction Site: Environmental

Education Applied to Civil Construction

Projects,” was the winner of the 8th

Environmental Brazil Award in the

category of Rational Water Resource

Use. The Embraport Terminal, one of the

Odebrecht TransPort assets, is located

in Santos, along São Paulo’s coast.

The award, held annually by the

American Chamber of Commerce

- Rio de Janeiro (AM-CHAM Rio),

recognizes the best environmental

practices developed by companies

operating in Brazil. This year, companies

competed with projects that were

already completed or in the final phase

of implementation, together with

research institution and NGOs. In all,

57 projects competed in six categories

– Social-Environmental Responsibility,

Preservation and Management of

Ecosystems, Environmental Innovation,

Rational Use of Water Resources,

Inventory of Emissions and Solid

Waste Management. Besides this, the

American Chamber of Commerce in Rio

de Janeiro (AM-CHAM Rio) paid tribute

to journalist André Trigueiro from the TV

Globo network.

The Embraport Terminal sustainable

construction site is designed to

contribute toward the environmental

education of Members, partners

and visitors, offering information

on sustainable solutions and the

development of environmental

technology. The focuses are on the

treatment of effluent contaminated

by heavy metals, dredging of channels

and the reduction in drinking water

consumption, reusing the effluent

treated for less noble purposes, as well

as the recycling of solid material. It is

estimated that there was an 80%-90%

reduction in the use of drinking water.

Headed by the AM-CHAM Rio

Environmental Committee, the

Environmental Brazil Award chooses

a topic of national concern for

each edition. In 2012, solid waste

management became visible and was

debated during a special lecture by the

Brazilian Ministry of the Environment’s

Secretary of Water Resources and Urban

Environment, Pedro Wilson Guimarães,

who is responsible for the National Solid

Waste Plan.

this dynamic, since it facilitates the possibility

for technological and social-environmental

connections, promoting the understanding that

the environment and technology are, within the

same sphere, part of the problem and part of
