Some History…
Samuel de Champlain
(1567-1635)
-In 1608, he founded Quebec City at the “Point of Quebec” a formerly abandoned colony.
-Also helped establish French trading power in North America, specifically in the fur business.
Location…
-Québec City was founded on a strategic location of the St. Lawrence River.
British Control
Becoming a destination…
-Because of the St. Lawrence River, Quebec City was mainly a stop for sailors and a place of port business.
-Once most business moved to Montreal, Quebec City fell upon hard times, which ultimately led to massive remodeling and clean up of the city in the mid-twentieth century for tourism.
