ON THE FARM!

Welcome to Upper Moreton farm

and our December issue.

Welcome Home!

Hello from the Upper Moreton team.

I wish it could be Christmas every day!

Well, here we are with this years final edition... This year has gone quickly and we have had some fun up here on

the farm.

We have had some icy cold mornings here and so we will touch on winter safety this month as things can get

slippery.

Holiday

Greetings!

To all we here at

the farm would

like to wish every-

one a wonderful

Christmas time

and a lovely new

year.

We hope that you

enjoy the holidays

and will see you

again in January

when we resume

activities again.

Take care all and

see you soon.

Note from the Edi-

tor:

Many thanks to

the rural activities

team for having

us all with you at

the farm.

WINTER SAFETY

During the winter farms can be even more tricky to navigate.

Frosty mornings make things slippery and we can be more open to having falls.

We need to make sure that we don’t run we always walk and we don’t go off alone and make sure we have staff with us at all times.

We need to wrap up extra warm and keep waterproof clothing at hand too.

We need to walk more carefully when leading out the animals as win-ter weather makes things wet and slippery.

Watch out for water on floors and mud too it can be slippery indoors especially in the classroom and the toilet area.

If at any time you feel unsafe please ask a staff member or volunteer for help and they will be only too happy to help you out.

As always be safe but enjoy the farm!

As we introduced our two new donkeys last month we will touch on

donkey safety this month.

Our two new donkeys Dolly and Pudding are very cheeky and a bit

naughty but this is because they haven’t had the same training that our

other donkeys have had.

Currently they have their winter coats on and are very happy living out in

the field all the day. They can be very pushy and beg for food which is

why we don’t give in to their demands and only feed them hay when we

are told to by staff.

Also we do NOT go into the field without a member of staff or a

volunteer with us at ALL times.

We need to remember that we have to treat them quietly, gently, and with

love as they haven’t had the same attention our others have had.

Once the weather changes and the mud dries out a bit they will be

trained up so they behave as well as the others, but for now be careful

with them.

We have to look at several things during the winter to make sure our

animals are healthy.

We need to ensure they have enough food as it can be scarce during the

winter so we have to provide it for them.

We also need to ensure they have adequate bedding to keep them warm

and dry at night.

We need to make sure that we clean off dirt from them so we can keep

them comfortable.

Also we have to ensure that we treat anything we see wrong with them right

away so that they are made comfortable as soon as possible.

Our Christmas on the farm open day was a great day. Very busy but we had a

lot of fun and even had a couple of special VIP’s visit us.

Lily had a special job as an apprentice reindeer and Santa gave her a carrot for

being a good girl.

Santa took everyone’s Christmas wishes and made sure that everyone had been

good over the year.

We raised over £140 so in all a very good day.

Many thanks to those who donated goods for sale on the day your donations

were greatly appreciated.

MOST OF ALL!

Many thanks from all us visitors

and myself the editor to the guys

at Upper Moreton for opening the

farm to everyone and giving us a

wonderful opportunity to come

and enjoy life here.
