The finest EDM specialists areat your service

At ONA, we understand that one ofthe best ways to ensure our clients'success is to offer service and technicalsupport that will enable them to getthe most out of their EDM machine.

The Processes and Technology Serviceat ONA, managed by EDM Specialists, aims to ensure that each of ourproducts will fit perfectly into theclient's particular application.

This exclusive service is absolutely free.

As an example, the mobile consoleemphasizes of its excellent ergonomicdesign while still incorporating the CNC. Besides, the compact design of themachines NX manages to reduce themaximum surface used in busy plant, but still uses permanent filters.

Operates fast, simple and withease

The model ONA NX incorporates CNCwith the latest generation withWindows based applications whichcontributes to important operatingadvances and a higher level ofautomation.

The ONA NX range responds to a newconception of machine based on theideal that they are predominantlysimplicistic, with an efficient designwhile at the same time that offers theoperator a substantial improvement incomfort. The ONA NX does notsacrifice security to improve comforthowever, because it’s rigourousdevelopment conformed to all thepresent regulations of security and hasalso maintained electromagneticcompatibility.

3

Extremely rigid mechanical structure

4

Stiffness and precision are hallmarksof the new ONA NX units. State-of-the-art methods have been used intheir development, while the finest ofmodern machining and assemblytechniques have gone into theirconstruction.

Each machine is verified with a laserthat checks the positioning of eachaxis to make sure it meets the normof VDI 3441. Also, each machine mustcomply with the restrictions accordingto ISO 230-4.

Large loading capacity and longtraverses

The fixed-bedframe concept allowsobtaining very long traverses on the Xand Y axes, as well as high stability.

The clamping system is fixed, so thatthe weight of the workpiece restsdirectly on the frame. The guidancesystem for the X-Y axes is thussubmitted only to light, mechanicalforces.

The structure of the machine isconstructed of stabilized fine grainedcast iron blended with graphite.Structural design is symmetrical so thatthermal deformation will be held to aminimum.

Precision that lasts

To ensure very high precision, the X-,Y-, and Z-axes are positioned byservomotors and ball-mounted spindlesof superb quality, controlled by glassscale closed-loop CNC. Sliding is onspecial designed ways.

Optimized design using finite-element method

The mechanical structure of themachine was designed by the finite-element method (FEM), with everyaspect studied under the most extremeconditions. The points subjected to thegreatest stresses are reinforced, so thatthe structure is optimized.

The result is maximum rigidity, whichis a basic requirement for high-precisionmachining.

5

Direct control positioning of theX, Y, Z axes

In all ONA NX models, positioningcontrol of the X, Y, Z axes is done byhigh precision glass scales. The use ofglass scales determines axis positiondirectly, and allows the operator toknow exactly where the electrode is atany moment.

A new generator that contributes toimportant advances in automation

6

SAAC system: Top performanceand full automation with taperedsurface electrodes

The SAAC (Surface Automatic AdaptiveControl) system, forming part of thenew generator in the NX machines, maximizes generator performance inerosion work involving tapered surfaceelectrodes.

It adjusts the erosion intensity to suitthe area being eroded, and isparticularly adept where the workpieceshave changes on the erosion surfaceduring machining. It operates withoutspecial programming or any otherinitiative on the part of the operatorbecause of the Expert Erosion Systemin the CNC.

JOS System: Jump Orbit System

The new JOS system reduces the runtime of the erosion that orbits make. The System defines that areas of theorbit that already have been finalizedand only erodes in the zones where itis necessary. This improves erosion timeand is especially significant in worksthat require electrodes with complexforms or electrodes with large surfaces.

Surface finish of VDI=0

The highly reliable performance of theONA NX series generator can give asurface finish to VDI=0 in both erosionoperations and in fine-finish mode.

100% of unattended operationin difficult jobs

On the basis of the years of experienceof ONA in developing generators witha high level of automatic control ofthe erosion process, ONA has createdthe new Expert Erosion System calledBES.

This new module represents a newadvance of ONA in the improvementof the yield of unattended operation. This new system is complex anddemanding, yet works in the groovesof great depth without cleaning, surfaces, etc. It can automatically bemade with the maximum qualityassurances and precision, with thecertainty that the generator will givethe maximum in each phase ofmachining.

7

Analysis of the BES System:

• Control by sparkMeasurement of all the characteristicsof each spark, time of ionization, levelof unloading, etc.

Detection of the conditions of erosionin each spark and case specificprotection of workpiece.

• Control of sparkIt evaluates groups of sparks and it actscase specific when it is necessary.

• Control of timingsEvaluation of timing, analyzing previousvalues and modifying the regime withthe objective to increase the yield ofthe erosion.

A-SPACE function

The ONA-S64 CNC incorporates thenew function A-SPACE (Axis for erosionin SPACE). With this, anyprogrammable CNC erosion function(spheres, taper machining, orbitalmachining, vectors, etc.) can be carriedout in any spatial direction.

Programmable fixed cycles:- Circular orbital.- Circular orbital at 45º.- Square orbital.- Square orbital at 45º.- Vectorial erosion.

- Decrescent / Crescent square cone type erosion.- Decrescent / Crescent circular cone type erosion.- Orbital erosion with ANGLE function.- Decrescent / Crescent spherical erosion.

The module 3D SETUP that incorporatesONA-S64 CNC includes an extensiveset of automatic measurement cyclesthat serve to simplify to the tasks ofcompletion of the workpiece andelectrode in the machine.

11

3D SETUP:simplification and time reduction inthe completion of work piece

The module 3D SETUP allows to make:

• Manual Movements: from theremote control movements in themachine can be executed accordingto a defined axis of erosion and themain axes. This makes it possible toexecute all type of balances in thespace with associated manualmovements.

• Automatic balances in anydirection of the space: It is possibleto automatically make balances in

interiors, exteriors, corners, faces andmidpoint of each workpiece in anyplane defined in any direction of thespace.

• Automatic alignment of the axis-machine to the axis-piece: Theautomatic alignment can takeautomatic measurements of thedeviation of the piece with respect tothe main axes. 3D SETUP also makesthe automatic correction of theprogram, the orbits and axis C.

• Multi-task Control: During theexecution of a program, the controlvisualizes in real time the execution ofthe trajectory of the orbits. It alsodetermines the efficiency of thegenerator and the representation ofmultiple workpieces. In addition, it isalso possible to publish programs, technologies, strategies, and projects.

CNC enabled with ethernet connection,USB, messages to a mobile phone…

12

• Ethernet connection, USB andauthomatic messages. The RJ45 connector and the ethernetconnection that is standard with ONANX units are a major breakthrough incontrol and automation, so that themachine can be added to the any LocalArea Network (LAN).

ONA-S64 CNC also allows the deliveryof remote automatic e-mail messagesto several locations of the operator, with possibility of enclosing files oftechnology, compensations, and thehistory the current workpiece.

In addition, it is allows warningmessages to be sent during theexecution of a program, so that theoperator is aware at the very momentof the current state the job.

The Strategy Generating Wizardanalyzes the optimal erosion process, showing the roughing and finishingregimes, the electrode’s undersize andgenerates the program automatically.

The machine operator must fill out asimple questionnaire specifying:

1. Characteristics of the work:

• Depth, type of cavity, workpiece andelectrode material, axis of erosion, andwhich electrode to use.

• Selection of the work criteria: speed, superficial homogeneity, and minimumwear.

13

Strategy Generating Wizard

2. Technology:

• Definition of rough parameters:- Directly introducing the initial VDI.- Defining the front area of theelectrode.- According to a value of given sub-dimensions.

• Definition of finished parameters:- Introduction of the final VDI.- Defining the total surface of theelectrode.

3. Finished strategies:

- Circular, square orbitals.- Increasing, decreasing spheres.- Completion of edges.- Erosions, etc.

4. Specifics of the erosion:- Location tables of the angle of theelectrode.- Parameters of cleaning.- Technology tables , etc.

With this system, once the minimumdata has been entered, the StrategyGenerating Wizard analyzes the joband generates the programautomatically. With the automaticstrategies, ONA’s decades of experienceis in the hands of the operator. Thisconsiderably reduces the training timeof the operator.

If the operator wishes to add his ownexperience to the CNC, the NX modelsallow him to create his owntechnological tables and use them indrawing new programs.

Project Generating Wizard

14

The works that demand the use ofmultiple electrodes require long andcomplicated programs. With thepurpose of simplifying theprogramming and management of thistype of work, the new ONA-S64 CNCincorporates a tool of programmingcalled the Project Generating Wizard.

The Project Generating Wizard is amanager of strategies and electrodesand will help indicate:- Files of characteristics of electrodes.- Electrodes to use.- Erosions to use with each electrode.

The Project Generating Wizardvisualizes with a tree-like structure, asummary of the generated work, allowing the operator to quickly fileany project.

Also it presents/displays a summary ofthe work to make, publishing strategies, programs, files of staggers, technologies, etc. of the attended form.

The worker also can interchangeprograms, strategies, instructions, etc.between different projects. Thanks tothis tool it is possible to manage thecomplex works in a very fast and flexibleformat.

The new ONA NX machines aredesigned to automate all type of worksin a simple and effective way.

The powerful ONA-S64 CNC that themachine incorporates, combined withan automatic electrode changer with40 stations (ø 51 mm) and a pallet-changer for workpieces, allows thepossibility of automating the mostcomplex jobs at an affordable cost.

The 40 position rotary electrodechanger is standard and is totallyintegrated in the machine and to thecontrol, and also has a remote control. With the purpose of saving movementsand time, the changer has a doubleclamp that reduces to half the cycle toreplace and to put a new electrode thechuck.

15

Effective Automation

The rotary changer allows the use of:- 40 electrodes - ø 51 mm.- or 20 electrodes - ø 105 mm.- or 13 electrodes - ø 160 mm.

The ONA NX models can incorporateup to two linear tool changers, placedin each side of the work tank.

Each linear tool changer of electrodesis available in 2 different configurations.

• In models NX4 and NX4C- 6 positions with distance betweencenters of 80 mm.- 11 positions with distance of 38 mm.

• In model NX6- 8 positions with distance betweencenters of 85 mm.- 16 positions with distance of 38 mm.

• In model NX7- 10 position with distance betweencenters of 80 mm.- 20 positions with distance of 38 mm.
