Plot Structure Defined

• EXPOSITION: introduces characters, setting, and background information.

• RISING ACTION: the plot becomes more complicated, and the conflict intensifies.

• CLIMAX: the point of greatest tension; the conflict reaches its greatest height, and the crisis (turning point) occurs.

• FALLING ACTION: follows the climax and leads to the resolution.
