This week we again immerse

ourselves – pun intended – into

the waters of Baptism. This time

we see part of a version of John’s

gospel in which he emphasizes the

divinity of Christ. John, the last

Gospel writer, is best known for

stressing Christ’s divinity. It

saddens me sometimes when I run

into Catholics who are distressed

by the concept of the Holy Trinity

– the three Divine Persons of which

are paraded in all of their glory

for us within each Gospel writer’s

treatment of the Baptism of Jesus.

It is always a good start to

emphasize to everyone that there

are not three Gods. There is one

God who presents Himself to each of

us in the form of three Divine

Persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

It is essential to accept that these

three Persons are indissoluble. Where

you find one, the other two are

there as well . . .remember – One

God, three divine Persons.

I think where people have their

biggest problem with the Trinity is

in discussing the two natures of

Christ – human and divine. The

Second Person of the Trinity – the

Son, always was. He is begotten of

the Father – not made. Accordingly,

He is of the same divine substance

of the Father – and shares from the

Father all of his power and eternal

majesty. The love between Father

and Son is so incredibly powerful –

both constantly giving to the other,

that spinning from this loving

cauldron is the Holy Spirit who

spills out to the entire world –

proceeding from the Father and the

Son.

The account of the Baptism of the

Lord in John’s gospel permits us a

brief chance to truly study the two

natures of Jesus. We see his

humanity which is identical to ours

except that Jesus never sins.

Second, we get to see the majesty

of Jesus’s divinity and his

interworking with the Father and

the Holy Spirit. In short, when

dealing with Jesus, we are dealing

with someone who fully understands

our humanity because he shares in

it.

Yet, he is also divine, God

himself and that provides us

a glimpse of heaven. As we

leave the Season behind and

put the decorations lovingly

into the box in which they

hibernate until next Thanks-

giving, let us renew our

efforts to understand who God

is and how he works in our

life. The New Year gives us

a chance to take stock and

determine whose team we are

playing for – God’s or some-

one else’s. Finally, remember,

in Baptism you were claimed

for Christ, you are his. Let

him into your hearts as we

get a new year underway.

Plans are now in place for the 2020 youth mission trip through Catholic Heart Work Camp! This year we’ll be serving in Memphis, TN, leaving on June 13th and returning on June 20th. We will spend that week doing service projects (painting, landscaping, day care, and much more), participating in a variety of faith-based activities, and getting to know other Catholic teens from around the country. This trip is open to current 8th graders up through college students under 21 years old as of June 2020. The cost will be a total of $495 which is discounted due to generous donations from the Men of St. Daniel. If you are interested or would like more details, we will hold an informational meeting on Wednesday, January 29th at 6pm in the Social Hall. Past chaper-ones and students will share their experiences at previous camps and we will also have paperwork which you can fill out that evening to register. Tour the ICU Detroit Mobile Unit! Through the annual Baby Bottle Drives, our Knights of Columbus had

hoped to one day secure a new or newer RV unit for ICU Birth Choice.

Although the task seemed daunting, due to the amazing generosity of

St. Daniel parishioners, K of C Councils from Waterford, Davisburg,

Ortonville, the Fourth Degree Assembly and GOD’s divine grace, a

barely-used RV unit was purchased for ICU Birth Choice in 2019! The

RV will be available in the parish parking lot after all Masses on

January 18/19. Stop by, take a brief tour, and see what YOU helped to

make happen!!!

K of C Baby Bottle Drive Our St. Daniel Knights of Columbus are sponsoring their Baby Bottle Drive in support of

ICU Birth Choice (https://icubirthchoice.com/). 100% of funds donated will go to this

worthy pro-life organization. Through their mobile unit, ICU Birth Choice helps to

restore hope to pregnant women considering aborting their precious gift. To help the

Knights, pick up a baby bottle as you leave church today. Place your donation in the baby

bottle, then return it to the crib located in the church gathering space through Sunday,

February 2. If you plan to return your baby bottle outside of weekend Mass times, please

deliver it to the Parish Office. Thank you, and may God bless!

Diaper Drive for Stitching for Babies

Stitching for Babies is a parish ministry group that hand makes baby outfits, sleepers,

sweaters, quilts, and afghans for layettes that are donated to local pregnancy centers.

To supplement these hand-crafted items, Stitching for Babies needs the

following NEW baby items: Small packages of diapers (size 1, 8-14 pounds, packs of 50 or

less); wipes; Onesies (to fit 3 months, 9-12 pounds); baby socks and bibs. You may leave your

donations in the baby crib in the church gathering through Sunday, January 26, or

drop them off at the Parish Office.

Join the LIFE CHAIN January 19 Our Knights of Columbus are also planning a LIFE CHAIN for Sunday, January 19,

from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. on northbound Sashabaw between Waldon and Maybee

Roads. LIFE CHAIN is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals

praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity that

abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the

moment of conception until natural death. This LIFE CHAIN is not exclusive to the K of C.

ALL parishioners are invited to join in, including families. Due to the potential for winter

weather, the Knights welcome volunteers in 1/2 hour to one hour shifts.

Today We Observe Sanctity of Human Life Sunday

"Remember When You Were A Kid?" Written by Ed Labunaki Originally sung for Faygo by Kenny Karen

Comic books and rubber bands

Climb into the tree top

Falling down and holding hands Tricycles and Redpop

Pony rides and Sunday nights

Roller skates and yoyo’s

Fairytales and Snowball fights Climbin' through the window

Remember when you were a kid?

the part of you still is

And that's why we make Faygo Faygo remembers

Flying kites and funny shoes

Easter eggs with speckles

ABCs and counting by twos Washing off the freckles

Kissing a hurt to make it stop

Startin' school in September

So many things you almost forgot Tryin' to remember

Remember when you were a kid?

the part of you still is

And that's why we make Faygo Faygo remembers

Fun memories...God Is Good! :)
