In partnership with the Friends of the Littleton Library and Museum, and thanks to generous community sponsorships, the library has invited author Charles Vogl to present an interactive keynote program on his book The Art of Community: Seven Principles for Belonging. Attendees will be encouraged to engage directly with the challenges that Littleton faces and the opportunities for strengthening the connections we have with each other. This is a ticketed event. Art Workshop with the Boulder Museum ofContemporary Art—September 9, 2 p.m.*Join BMoCA Educator Melinda Laz for a hands-on workshop about BMoCA's newexhibition, The Stubborn Influence of Painting, and create a piece of art inspired by theshow. Bringing together a diverse group of nine artists from across the U.S. andLondon, this exhibition examines how the history of painting acts as a silentcollaborator in the work of artists who create in other mediums. *Registration isrequired. Cuba with Active Minds—September 20, 2 p.m. Join Active Minds for a past, present and future look at our communist neighbor to thesouth. The program will cover Castro’s revolution, the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban MissileCrisis, Guantánamo Bay and current implications of the change in U.S. policy.

Legendary Ladies Who Challengedthe World—September 25, 2 p.m. The Legendary Ladies return to Bemis to portray sixwomen who challenged society, fought for the rights ofothers and worked hard to create the change theywanted to see in the world. Join educator Emily Griffith,baseball player Maud Nelson, activist Elaine GoodaleEastman, bohemian rebel Mabel Dodge Luhan,explorer Isabella Bird and Denver’s own business-woman Mary Elitch Long to learn about their lives and the legacies they created.08/25/2021 2

Banned Books Week—Sept. 26–Oct. 2Learn about the dangers of censorship and celebrate thefreedom to read. Participate in a week-long scavenger huntin the stacks to explore how libraries approach difficultissues such as racism, sexism, homophobia or falseinformation in literature. Learn about books that have beenchallenged and why even well-intentioned censorship canlead to unfortunate consequences for our society. At theend of the week, participate in a discussion on Saturday,October 2, 2 p.m. about how libraries might approach thesedifficult issues. Those who finish the scavenger hunt andattend the discussion will have a chance to win great prizes.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Bemis Public Library is offering the 1000 Books BeforeKindergarten program to children ages birth throughbeginning kindergarten. Participants will receive a bookcheckoff log and a series of prizes as they progress throughtheir 1000 book goal. Stop by the Children's Desk to getyour log and begin your challenge.

Magic Library Show—Sept. 4, 11 a.m.Magic, juggling, hat tricks, cowboy rope tricks, balancingstunts and laughter. This interactive show is fun for thewhole family. Cody Landstrom demonstrates how librariesand reading can be used to learn just about anything.

Drop-In Discovery Art—Third Saturday of Every MonthSeptember 18, 1–3 p.m.Drop in each month and explore different art materials and techniques. The librarywill provide the materials and inspiration, and children can work through the process ofcreating an original piece of art.
