Today, we are filled with pride to celebrate the launch of the pilot program “Una computadora por niño”, which we developed with the aim of contributing to the strengthening of the children and adolescents teaching-learning process between 5 and 17 years of age, from different communities of Sanchez Ramírez and San Pedro de Macorís. To carry out this initiative, we received advice from the Zamora Terán Foundation from Nicaragua, a recognized organization on the program implementation in Centroamerica, which work in strategic partnership with “One Laptop Per Child” (OLPC), an institution founded in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Laboratory Media, where the XO laptops were developed to contribute to the development of quality education for the boys and girls. We have delivered 600 laptops to the same number of students from five schools in Cotuí and San Pedro de Macorís, however the number of children who will benefit from the pilot program implementation reach to 750, thanks to the integration of an educational center of San Pedro de Macorís, who already had 150 computers, without so far being able develop the initiative. Barrick Pueblo Viejo sets a milestone in the educational history of the Dominican Republic, becoming in a national pioneer on implementing this global initiative. Step by step the work we do every day with effort and dedication helps to build a better country. We invite you to know the details of this initiative implementation process through a documentary that we uploaded for you on the following intranet link: http://intranet.barrick.com/C0/C18/Pueblo-Viejo/default.aspx You can also find more information about the program through the webpage www.unacomputadorapornino.do In Barrick Pueblo Viejo we contribute to education by facilitating technology access to children in the communities that surrounds our operations.

We invite you to know the details of this initiative implementation process through a documentary that we uploaded for you on the following intranet link: http://intranet.barrick.com/C0/C18/Pueblo-Viejo/default.aspx
