Prep Lips with concealer or lip primer for longer lasting lipstick
application and to neutralize natural lip color
Have you ever purchased a lipstick shade because you saw someone else wearing it and loved it only to find that it looks completely different on you?
This is because your natural lip color is visible through the lipstick. Neutralize your natural lip color by applying foundation or concealer to your lips prior to application.

DIY Body Scrub
www.spadelic.com
Using an exfoliant on the body is just as important as facial exfoliants. Weekly application will remove dead skin cells and promote smoother, softer skin. Here is a recipe for one of my favorite DIY body scrubs:
Citrus Coffee Scrub Recipe3/4 finely ground coffee¼ c finely ground sugar1tbs salt1/3 c grapeseed oil1 tsp ground cinnamon8 drops grapefruit essential oil8 drops orange essential oil4 drops of peppermint essential oil
Mix coffee, salt, and essential oils in a glass or ceramic bowl. Add almond oil slowly, stirring continuously, until mixture reaches the consistency of moist sand.
Insider tip: Any carrier oil can be substituted for grapeseed oil.

Dewy Skin
www.spadelic.com
Insider tip: Avoid hot showers which cause blood vessel dilation and water loss through skin.
Moisturizers are most effective when applied to damp skin.
Shower as normal. Before opening shower door, lightly pat body with a towel to remove excess moisture, leaving skin damp.
Apply one pump of body oil to each leg including soles and bottoms of feet and massage lightly into skin. (be careful, shower could get slippery)
Next, apply one pump to each arm, including hands then follow with remainder of body.
Exit shower and immediately apply moisturizer to seal in moisture and promote softer, dewier skin.

Bronzer 101
www.spadelic.com
Insider tip: A foundation powder that is 2-3 shades darker than your skin tone can be
used as a matte bronzer.
Q: Can I wear bronzer in the winter?A: Absolutely, by December/January any hint of color
obtained during the warmer months has most likely faded. Be sure to choose the correct color and formula for your skin tone to create a natural and believable warmth to the skin.
Q: How do I know what color of bronzer to buy?A: Choose a shade of bronzer that is 1-2 shades darker
than your natural skin tone:Fair: A brown-based bronzer with pink/peachy undertonesMedium: Golden or honey brown bronzerDark: Reddish brown bronzer
Q: How do I apply bronzer?A: To warm the face and mimic a sun-kissed glow, apply
bronzer to the temples, along bottom of cheekbones and jaw line (think of drawing a backwards #3 along the outer side of the face)
Q: Should I use a matte or shimmer bronzer?A: Look for bronzers that have a matte or natural sheen to
them. For a natural, healthy glow, never use bronzers or face powders that contain obvious flecks of glitter

Blemish 911
www.spadelic.com
Insider tip: NEVER squeeze or attempt to pop a blemish as this can
force bacteria into the skin and create more inflammation.
To calm an angry, red blemish cleanse face then spot treat with salicylic acid using the paste outlined below: (If you are allergic to aspirin do not use this remedy)
Crush 4-5 aspirin in a bowl then add a small amount of hot water and mix to create a paste.
Using a q-tip, apply paste to blemish for 1-2 hours allowing it to penetrate and dry out the pimple.
Rinse off and wrap a piece of ice in cheesecloth or put in a small zip lock bag and apply to blemish for up to 10 minutes using light pressure to reduce swelling.
Follow with a light application of an oil-free moisturizer followed by a silicone based primer.
Apply a normal application of foundation and if additional coverage is needed, apply a dot of concealer to blemish. (Don’t over apply foundation or concealer which will bring attention to blemish and make it more noticeable)
Once you have finished applying your makeup, lightly dust a finely milled finishing powder such as Mirabella’s Perfecting Powder all over face to create a soft focus finish and minimize the appearance of blemishes and fine lines.

Pamper your peepers
www.spadelic.com
Insider tip: Look for skin care products that contain
hyaluronic acid which can hold 1,000 times its weight in water.
Treat seasonal allergies which can cause blood vessels under the eyes to swell creating darkness. Rubbing itchy eyes can bruise blood vessels and cause additional darkness.
Fine lines are exacerbated by dehydration. Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.
Moisturize eye area immediately after showering (within 3-5 minutes).
Look for eye creams that contain the following ingredients:
Retinol – minimizes pores and fine lines and evens out skin tone
Peptides - promotes collagenAntioxidants - prevents collagen damageHyaluronic acid - humectant
Apply eye cream before moisturizing face using your ring finger to gently pat cream around the eye area. Start on outer corner of eye working in outside working in.
Follow with facial moisturizer and a silicone based primer to prime skin, seal in moisture and create a smoother surface for makeup application.
Wear sunglasses to avoid sun damage

DIY tinted moisturizer
www.spadelic.com
Insider tip: Make sure you use a sunscreen that specifically states
“Broad Spectrum” and blocks both UVA and UVB rays
Tinted moisturizers are great for warmer climates. Laura Mercier has the best tinted moisturizer on the market but if you want to save your cash use my easy DIY Tinted Moisturizer Recipe below.
Mix equal parts broad spectrum sunscreen such as Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum to liquid foundation of choice.
For more sheer coverage use less foundation, for more add more foundation but do not decrease sunscreen
One of the benefits of DIY Tinted Moisturizer is you can tweak the coverage based on the current condition of your skin.

DIY Makeup Remover
www.spadelic.com
Insider tip: Use lighter oils such as Hazel nut, apricot kernel or grapeseed if you have oily skin. (The lighter the
oil is in color, the better)
Removing makeup with a carrier oil based cleanser will remove oil without compromising the skin’s natural barrier lipids or clogging pores. (My fave is Dermalogica Precleanse)
Suggested carrier oils: grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, apricot kernel, hazel nut, coconut and olive oil will remove makeup, sebum and environmental pollutants from the skin’s surface and allow facial cleansers to work effectively.
Coconut oil or one of the lighter weight oils can be used alone but those who want a lighter weight cleanser can combine the following in a resealable container and shake well prior to each use.
8 oz of George’s Aloe Vera Water1/3 c of grapeseed oil2 tbs of Burt’s Bees Baby Shampoo

Wear Shades
www.spadelic.com
Did you know? TV personality, Anderson Cooper, was temporarily blinded while filming a news segment on the water off the coast of Portugal on a cloudy day without sunglasses
If you think you should only wear sunglasses on sunny days, think again my dear.
UV rays can penetrate through clouds and cause long term sun damage.
UV rays cause the break down of elastin fibers which leads to saggy, droopy skin, especially around the eye area where skin is naturally thinner and prone to damage.
Wear sunglasses anytime you are outside to prevent repetitive squinting which leads to fine lines, wrinkles and crows feet

Exfoliate Weekly
www.spadelic.com
Insider Tip: Yogurt contains lactic acid, which can help to exfoliate and
smooth out the skin.
The outer layer of skin cells renew every 28 days but as we age, this process slows down.
Exfoliate face and body including hands once a week to remove dead skin cells and promote a healthy, more youthful glow to skin.
Chose chemical over physical scrubs that contain large particles as they scratch skin and can cause damage.
Chemical exfoliants such as AHA’s and BHA’s penetrate the skin and chemically dissolve the layers of dead skin.

DIY Baking Soda Exfoliant
www.spadelic.com
Insider Tip: Although baking soda is a physical exfoliant, the granules are small and gentle enough to use for both face and body.
For a simple do it at home exfoliant create a light paste with 2 tbs of baking soda and juice of half a lemon and gently massage onto face for about 2 minutes.
Baking soda gently removes dirt without "scratching skin" while the lemon juice tightens pores and brightens skin tone.
Be sure to follow with a moisturizer chosen based on individual skin concerns
