Principal’s Report
Term 4 & Attendance
Term 4 is traditionally a busy academic term for all students. Not only are the HSC and SC examinations conducted this term but the Year 11 Preliminary HSC concludes and all Year 11 students commence Year 12 studies. All Year 7, 8 and 9 students will be involved in assessments that, coupled with earlier assessments, will determine their classes for 2011.
It is a busy time and attendance at school is crucial. Students are often compared to other students within the school, the North Coast Region, the State and the Nation. For our students to have equal opportunity, they need to spend an equivalent amount of time in class, learning and getting assistance with their learning.
Both the North Coast Region and the NSW DET have attendance requirements of around 92%. For your child to have equal opportunity, this means in a 10 week term the expectation is that an individual does not have more than 4 days absent from class.
As a school, we set 92% as our benchmark and ask for your assistance in reaching it.
Insurance
Parents are advised that Wauchope High School and the DET do not ensure individual students for injury when representing the school. In line with NSW DET policy regarding student care, standard
first aid and assistance, emergency treatment including ambulance (in NSW only) and immediate emergency care for students is covered in this policy. Ongoing medical care beyond the initial emergency care given is the sole responsibility of the care giver/ parent in all cases.

The School Certificate examination will commence on Monday November 8. The timetable for the examination is at the bottom of the page, and also appears on the school website.

TROPHY PRESENTATION
Mathematics Excursion to Luna Park
Once again this year the Mathematics Department is offering stu-dents the opportunity to attend a day at Luna Park, Sydney on Friday 3rd December, 2010. It is a one day excursion, leaving at 6:00am and returning at 10:00pm. The cost will be $65, the same as last year.
Students will be nominated from Years 7 and 8 by their class teacher and the first 90 students in with their notes by Friday 12 November will be put on the list to attend. Others may be placed on a reserve list. The selected students will then have several days to pay before their spot is taken up by a reserve.
The day will be based around mathematical activities that can only be completed once you have taken the ride. The day is organised by the Mathematical Association of NSW and is always well spon-sored and organised.
The members of the Mathematics staff who will attend are looking forward to their time outside of the classroom and I‟m sure students are equally keen to be nominated to attend this popular activity.
Stay in touch for details as this will be finalised over the next couple of weeks.

Year 9 Camp
Cedar Creek Lodges at
Thunderbird Park, Mt Tamborine
was the perfect base for seventy
four Year 9 students and 6 staff
from Wauchope High School,
when they attended a camp on
Queensland‟s Gold Coast.
The students went to Wet “n” Wild Theme Park, followed by a “Sound, Camera, Action!” presentation at MovieWorld. This great activity allowed students to experience new activities and “bond” as a group. New skills in communication and resilience were developed, as the students learned to develop self confidence and self reliance during the trip.
A big thankyou to Mr Pinkerton, Miss Glover, Mrs Henry, Mr Starr, Mr Healy and of course Year 9 Year Advisor Ms Chegwiggen for their support and help over the four days. Thanks also to the wonderful students who made it a Camp to remember.
The Big Screamer Award goes to Miss Glover !
