My surface, lacerated, scarred and scabbed Stretched across mountain, rock and stream My knotted hair, the horizon My restless body became the land The twisted valleys and sawn edge Under a dizzying weight of water I chewed the bright black night And spat clouds into a suspicious sky Then scratched a rainbow I pulled a bone from the world’s flesh Chipped it with doubt, sharpened it with fear And punctured the sky I tore the skin from heaven And the sigh that drove the clouds Filled the sail of night Then, staggering across sleep’s damaged bridge I pulled a quilt of stars around me And peeked into day richardbolamat50.wordpress.com One star less than needed

Page 1: One Star Less Than Needed

My surface, lacerated, scarred and scabbedStretched across mountain, rock and streamMy knotted hair, the horizon

My restless body became the landThe twisted valleys and sawn edgeUnder a dizzying weight of water

I chewed the bright black nightAnd spat clouds into a suspicious skyThen scratched a rainbow

I pulled a bone from the world’s fleshChipped it with doubt, sharpened it with fearAnd punctured the sky

I tore the skin from heavenAnd the sigh that drove the cloudsFilled the sail of night

Then, staggering across sleep’s damaged bridgeI pulled a quilt of stars around meAnd peeked into day
