Dear Colleagues,

So far this year, the KS Energy Group has already experienced several significant changes both in terms of organizational structure and strategic operations. These changes were implemented to bring our organization to the next level of success by becoming an integrated solutions provider to our customers with a stronger focus on providing value added services. With the full sharing of resources and management talent, and our ability to secure larger and more profitable projects, we are now in a better position to take advantage of the upsurge in the energy and marine industry.

The recent reorganization of our drilling business under KS Drilling has allowed us to fully utilize our ability to supply and operate onshore and offshore capital equipment across the globe by leveraging on the expertise of our people, credentials and globally recognized accreditations. Having divested most of our non-core assets over the last few years, KS Drilling is a much more focused and integrated business. We have now expanded our operations into the African and Asian continent, providing us the opportunity to be recognized as a leader in the provision of upstream services there.

I look forward to welcoming our new partner, Itochu, to the KS Energy family. The agreement in which Itochu invests 20% of equity interest in KS Drilling has recently been completed. With their global network and experience accumulated over more than 150 years as well as their knowledge in the oil and gas industry, this is undoubtedly a partner who will bring tremendous value to our drilling business.

For KS Drilling to be a truly global player, we need a large fleet to cater to different market requirements. Therefore, we have recently secured a deal with Cosco Shipyard to build 2 jack-up rigs worth US$ 356 million. The first rig is scheduled to be delivered in the third quarter of 2013 and the second in the first quarter of 2014.

This time last year, we successfully executed the merger of our distribution businesses and are now in the midst of finalizing the consolidation process. We should all be very proud of our achievements so far; however we have only just begun the journey towards realizing our vision. Our distribution business boasts a full spectrum of products to cater to the requirements of all the energy and marine sectors, and is supported by highly qualified people to guarantee our customers’ satisfaction. Now is the time to capitalize on the upswing within the industry.

We have already begun laying down the foundations for our growth strategy, ensuring that all aspects of our organization fit together to form a more streamlined and efficient business. However, the success of any business is dependent on its people. As the catalyst to achieving our vision, your commitment and willingness to work hard as a team is paramount.

I am confident with our new organization and teamwork we can seize new opportunities in the continually increasing demand for Energy.

news From aBroad

KS Distribution Group has a new office in Shanghai. Located in East Hope Plaza, Pudong New Area, it

houses three companies: KS Equipment (Shanghai) Ltd, Raymonds Supply (Shanghai) Co., Ltd and

SSH Corporation (Shanghai) Ltd. It also serves as sales office for Aqua-Terra Supply (Tianjin) Oilfield

Equipment Trading Co., Ltd. Operating officially since 01 March 2011, the new office has brought 25 staff

from the four companies to work together under one roof, helmed by Steven Chong, the newly appointed

Director, China Operations.

April Ma, the Country Manager who is stationed there, shares some of the best things about Shanghai.

Best thing to do “Shanghai at night is very beautiful. The most

enjoyable things start from dusk,” said April. She recommends wandering Shanghai Bund to experience

the strong contrast between modern life and the past. Meanwhile, taking a boat ride in Huangpu River will provide an unrivalled postcard view of Shanghai.

Not to miss out, have some beers at bars! April also suggests exploring surrounding towns such as

Suzhou, Hangzhou and Nanjing.

diana lEng Having flown all the way from the netherlands almost

a decade ago, Diana Leng, Director, group Treasury of KS energy, now enjoys Singapore much more than her hometown gouda, also famous for gouda cheese. “It’s

the warm climate, the safe environment and the fact that I can travel easily anywhere from here,” she explained. Adding to it, her favorite food besides fried chicken is none other than Singapore fried bee hoon! Diana calls

Singapore her first home now although her parents and younger brother are residing in the netherlands. Though

far and away, family is very important to her. “It’s an unconditional giving. We don’t have to be living together

as long as we spend quality time together and genuine effort is made to be together with our families,” she said.

“To me it has always been very important to make my parents feel proud and give them a sense of security as they have worked hard for many years to give us the opportunities they never had.” Diana, who graduated with Master of Business Administration from Maastricht University, travels back to the netherlands once a year to visit her family or vice versa.

Having been independent since young, Diana has no problem being alone here. Her partner and close friends are around her. With her busy work schedule, she will catch up with them mostly during the weekends. “We love doing simple things together. Mostly we like to organize gatherings at our homes and enjoy some home cooked food and try out different wines,” said Diana who also puts catching up on sleep on her weekend to-do list. When time permits, she travels with her friends. “I try to make it a point to visit at least one new country or new place every year,” she said. A trip to Luxor, egypt many years ago where she could see and experience the ancient life is her most memorable one. “Though, I also like a good beach holiday,” she smiled while mentioning Maldives, Bali and Thailand.

Diana who speaks five languages; english, French, germany, Dutch and a little bit of Chinese, joined KS energy in 2007. “I have learnt more the last few years in this job than I could have in a lifetime. Working with people that are smarter and capable is something you must take advantage of as it gives you a unique opportunity to learn. I am very proud to be part of this team,” she shared. “I must say that I am also very fortunate that I have always had great bosses throughout my career. It’s very important!” said Diana who hopes she can do the same for her team and help them achieve their ambitions and goals.

Whereas the cool weather in autumn will make you feel very comfortable. Besides, you can eat tasty fruits as it is the harvest season,” explained April.

VESaK Celebration In Myanmararticle by: ma min pa pa Soe - KS distribution

In Myanmar, Full Moon Day of Kason or Vesak Day is celebrated all over the country. The most common celebration is to water the Bodhi tree in the Pagodas precinct. A procession with devotees wearing brown sarong and white shirts takes place in the Pagodas. They are led by youth dressed in costumes resembling celestial beings such as Sakra and Brahmas. Mantra and prayers are chanted

throughout. The ceremony ends with a joyous exaltation, Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu. The venerable monks are offered soon (lunch) at the Pagoda’s pavilion. In addition, Buddhists perform meritorious

deeds, meditate, keep Sabbath and give offertories to monks and nuns.“We invite Buddhist monks, relatives and neighbors to our home and pay homage to the Buddha

statue,” shared Min. They practice eight precepts and listen to dhamma from venerable monks, followed by offering to the monks. As part of the celebration, Min treats her guest with traditional food such as Moun hin ga (rice noodles), Kya zan che (Vermicelli soup) and Laphe thou (Pickled tea salad).

Mother’s Day Special: i love you, mom …

Sharon yap was deeply touched when her daughter presented her with an oval-shaped jewellery box on Mother’s Day. “She bought it with weeks of pocket money she had saved!” said

Sharon. Initially, her daughter wanted to buy a heart-shaped box but it was sold out. “It’s of course just as pretty, because it was

definitely filled to the brim with her hearts and love.” Sharon also celebrated Mother’s Day with her mother, Madam Chong Ah

yin, 70, whose unconditional love has inspired her. “Motherhood completes me. Being a mother has taught me that there is simply no other responsibility that is more important and significant than

being responsible for these 3 beautiful little people.”

“Mom made many sacrifices for the family. She gets up early to pray for her extended family. Her love for all is unconditional,” shared Alice about her mother, Madam Ang Chwee Kim, 80. Despite two knee-cap operations, Madam Ang keeps herself active, going to church and attending weekly women’s house group. Born in Bagan Siapi-api, Madam Ang is very open-minded and well loved by her siblings, children, in-laws and grandchildren. On Mother’s Day, Alice had multiple celebrations. “Home-cooked food with my siblings, lunch with my younger daughter as my eldest daughter was away in France with her husband and separate lunches with my uncles and aunties’ families,” smiled Alice. “I wish my dearest Mom good health and happiness always!”

Like any other mother, Irene Tan does all the best for her child. “Being a mother means we are willing to be responsible and to love unconditionally,” said Irene. Her love to her only son is now extended to

article & photos by tee lay hong – KS Energy ([email protected]) Yogyakarta and Central Java in Indonesia were my chosen escapade during long weekend last April.

With a group of friends, I explored the city and surroundings in our 4-night stay.

yogyaKarta & CenTrAL JAVA eSCAPADe

22 april 2011 - Borobudur temple, muntilan

Upon our arrival in Adisucipto International Airport in the afternoon, we headed straight away to Borobudur temple.

Located in Muntilan, 42 km from yogyakarta, the UneSCO World Heritage site is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments

in the world. On our way to Borobudur, we stopped by at Pawon and Mendut Temple. We stayed overnight in a small hotel

located in Borobudur vicinity.

23 april 2011 – Borobudur temple, muntilan - dieng plateu, Wonosobo

After wrapping ourselves with a sarong, we got ready in the morning to explore Borobudur which was built between AD 750 and 842. It was a magnificent view with clear blue sky upon us as we admired the temple. After breakfast, we drove to Dieng Plateu, an active volcanic region famous for its craters. The weather there was nice, cool and fresh! We were amazed by the colorful Telaga Warna Lake, Sikidang Crater and the unique Arjuna Temple, the oldest Hindu temple in Java. We left Dieng at noon and proceeded to Wonosobo town for lunch. We spent the night at Tambi Tea Plantation.

24 april 2011 - tambi tea plantation, Wonosobo – yogyakarta

We witnessed the tea making process – from how it was planted and dried, brewed and prepared to fill our cup during our morning tour in Tambi Tea Plantation. Then, we moved back to yogyakarta with the first stop at Kaliadem to have an up-close view of Mount

Merapi, the active volcano which just erupted last year! We visited another UneSCO World Heritage site, Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, located at the boundary of

yogyakarta and Central Java. At the Prambanan complex itself, we visited Plaosan Temple among many others. Back to town in

the afternoon, we finally had the chance to roam Malioboro for shopping!

25 april 2011 – yogyakarta

We paid a visit to the Sultan Palace which was designed with beautiful traditional architecture. Also known as Keraton yogyakarta, it is the official residence of the Sultan. Then, we stepped in Taman Sari, a water castle complex near the palace. In the past, it was a resting and recreation house for the royal family with big bathing pools and sacred room. Adjacent to it was Pasar ngasem; a famous bird market where we found pigeon among other colorful exotic birds for sale.

We took an hour lunch break at a local restaurant before heading to Kota gede in yogyakarta suburb. Famous for its silver industry since 1930s it has plenty of silver workshops along the street which make and sell silver jewelry. Besides, we also visited batik factory. Our last stop was Parangtritis, the sandy beach famous not only for its natural beauty but also a sacred place for meditation.

Orange Sky Spotted In Kurdistan! The unusual view was captured by KS Discoverer 1 rig team in Kurdistan, Iraq, on 12 April 2011. Mukhtar Shah, the rig superintendant, shared that the whole sky suddenly turned orange following a sand storm from Iran. A heavy muddy rain followed thereafter. It lasted for two hours until the sky slowly turned back to normal. The photo was taken at 15:49 pm when the orange color was at peak.
