Aug sep 2010 The Pierce County Public Works road improvement project on Wollochet Drive in Gig harbor, Washington will require Peninsula Light Company (PenLight) to relocate its 115,000 volt transmission line out of the existing right of way. The transmission relocation is scheduled to start the week of July 26 and be completed by mid-September. The county requirement to move the transmission line will cost PenLight approximately $2.5 million. This transmission line provides power to the communities of Artondale, Kopachuck, Horsehead Bay, Raft Island, Fox Island, and Cromwell. PenLight has contracted with Michels Power Corporation of Brownsville, Wisconsin for the transmission relocation project. PenLight will take the opportunity during the transmission relocation project to improve system reliability by making additional enhancements to the system. At times during the construction phase, the communities that are served by the Artondale substation will be energized through the Gig Harbor substation. PenLight has developed a plan to ensure that the system has adequate capacity to handle the additional electric load during the six-week construction period. However, should the system reach capacity during an extended heat wave, members will be notified to reduce their air conditioning or other usage to conserve energy. PenLight is a member-owned cooperative located in Gig Harbor, Washington and is a full requirement utility of the Bonneville Power Administration. The utility began in 1925. Since then, the cooperative has grown to be the second largest cooperative in the Northwest, with 25,000 members and serves over 31,000 meters on the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsulas. The utility provides electric power and water services. For more information visit www.penlight.org. PEP-C (Peninsula Emergency Preparedness Committee)

September is National Preparedness Month! Your local emergency service providers are ready to help you get prepared three ways:

Get A Kit

When preparing for a possible emergency situation, it’s best to think first about the basics of survival:

fresh water, food, clean air and warmth.

Make A Plan

Make sure you have a family emergency plan. Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to plan in advance:

how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations.

Family Emergency Plan

It may be easier to make a long-distance phone call than to call across town, so an out-of-town contact

may be in a better position to communicate among separated family members.

Be sure every member of your family knows the phone number and has

coins or a prepaid phone card to call the emergency contact.

You may have trouble getting through, or the telephone system

may be down altogether. Be patient

Be Informed

Being informed about the different types of emergencies that could

happen where you live and the appropriate ways to

respond to them will impact the decisions

you make and the actions you take.
