FEBRUARY Character Trait of the Month

KINDNESS The ability to help another; the treatment of others in ways that show

you care about their feelings and well-being.

Art II by Katelyn M., grade 8 – What

Art II did this week in art is work on our

lenticular images. A lenticular image is

an image with two pictures. When you

turn it one way it shows one thing and

turn the other way it shows something

else. We also had a sketchbook assign-

ment that was about leading lines. We

are having a great time also taking pic-

tures and learning about photography

composition. This has been a great

week in Art II.

Art I by Victoria B., grade 7 –

This was a great week in Art I.

We went to the computer lab to

type our paragraphs for our self-

portrait project. Ms. Bloodworth

taught us how to draw a general

face so we could draw our own

face from observation. To finish

up the week we looked at our-

selves in the mirror and drew

ourselves from observation.

Presenting Research Projects in 5th Grade

Students in Mrs. Brasher's 5th grade Language classes

confidently presented research projects that coincided

with a unit on informational writing. Students chose a

topic of interest to them and conducted research to find

out more about that topic. Non-fiction books and websites

were great sources of information. Students gathered and

organized information in accordance with guidelines

provided by Mrs. Brasher. The final projects were created

and saved on Google Slides and students presented to

their classmates. Projects were graded on research,

presentation and the content and structure of the slide

show.

Señora Leopard’s Spanish IV class recently completed projects using the TouchCast app for iPad. TouchCast

creates an interactive presentation that mixes video with web content. The app lets you record a video and

overlay elements such as web pages, maps, photos, Twitter streams, polls, quizzes and more. Users watching

the video can click on these multimedia elements and interact with them while the video continues to play.

You start by recording a video using your iPad's camera. You can pick from several themes like newscast or

review that'll insert titles and other elements to get you started. TouchCast uses a timeline to lay out the ele-

ments of your video and allows you to drag / drop extra content like titles, a whiteboard and vApps. vApps

are the multimedia features such as maps, Facebook content, Twitter streams, Flickr photos and more. There

are a lot of options within the editing side and it does take some trial and error to get elements to appear

where you want them to be.

When you are done creating your TouchCast video, it is hosted online on your TouchCast channel. From

within the app, you can share these TouchCast videos via Facebook, Twitter and email. You can also upload it

to YouTube as a regular, non-interactive video. The app also lets you preview TouchCast videos created by

both the company and other TouchCast users. These galleries give you a feel of what type of videos the

platform can be used to create. This app combines video and web in amazing interactive ways.

This app is simple to use and can be used across all subject matters such as; an interactive historical timeline,

tutorial videos, reports, biographies, book trailers or use it to showcase learning about a topic.

Senora Leopard’s classes used TouchCast to simulate news reports featuring some festivals in Spain. Here

TRUSSVILLE CHAMBER ANNOUNCES FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT T.E.A.M.

For immediate release

TRUSSVILLE, AL – The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) is pleased to announce a community-wide food drive to be held in February. The 7th annual “Love Your Neighbor” food drive will be held in conjunction with Valentine’s Day. Collection points will be manned at various locations and times during the week of February 14.

A ‘drive through’ kick-off will be held on Saturday, February 13, from 9 a.m. to noon in the First Methodist

Church of Trussville (FUMC) parking lot. TACC Executive Director Diane Poole says, “We try to make it easy for people in our ‘drive-through world’ to donate, so on that Saturday, people can actually drive into the parking lot, drop off their non-perishable items to volunteers, and then drive on out. They don’t even have to get out of their cars.”

Celebrity volunteers, including Alabama’s 13 Ken Lass, Fox 6 Anchor Janet Hall, and former University of Alabama football standouts Bobby Johns, Quinton Dial, and Rudy Griffin, plan to be on-hand at the kickoff at FUMC to greet contributors.

T.E.A.M. volunteer Louise Jensen says, “For the past six years, we’ve used the Valentine’s Day theme of love to remind people to ‘love their neighbor’ and to help those in need.” T.E.A.M., or Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry, assists those in the immediate Trussville area who are in need of food, clothing, and other necessities during difficult financial times. Louise also says, “Many people think of helping others during the holidays but they sometimes forget that some people need help all during the year. We hope this food drive will bring an awareness to donate these items all year long.”

Volunteers hope to capitalize on the success of previous years’ food drives. Area schools have been instrumental in the food drive. Several companies also sent monetary donations to T.E.A.M. Independence Place, a faith-based agency developed to meet the social/recreational needs of adult individuals, will staple informational flyers to food bags. This year’s goal is to

collect enough non-perishable items to help T.E.A.M. provide food until the fall.

Specific items which are particularly needed include personal hygiene items, cooking oil, flour, corn meal, sugar, canned meat and fish, dried beans, cereal, breakfast food, peanut butter, jelly, saltines, and mac & cheese. T.E.A.M.’s other immediate needs include not only volunteers but also a larger building in which to house and distribute their donated items.

Area churches which participate as T.E.A.M. members include Clear Branch United Methodist Church, Deerfoot Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Trussville, First Methodist Church of Trussville, Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Faith Lutheran Church, and Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church, and Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church. In addition, the McSweeney Foundation is also a member of T.E.A.M.

Drop-off locations include participating T.E.A.M. churches (listed above), the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Trussville fire station on Main Street in downtown Trussville, McSweeney Foundation/MCM Custom Vehicles, and T.E.A.M. All locations will gladly accept donations Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during that week. Most of the participating churches will also conduct drives on Sunday, February 14, and February 21. You may also leave donations at the T.E.A.M. location any time.

T.E.A.M. is located at 88 Cedar Lane in Trussville. Their hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon to 2 p.m. and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. You may leave a message for T.E.A.M. at (205) 661-5039. Member churches share the expenses of T.E.A.M., supplemented with donations from individuals and community and civic organizations. For more

information on the chamber, please visit www.trussvillechamber.com, call 655-7535, ‘like’ us on Facebook, or follow us on Instagram and Twitter.
