Security / A1

SecurityKeeping your information safe and secure is important to us. We use multiple layers of protection to help us identify you and for you to identify us.

Identifying YouOnline Banking identifies and authenticates you and your device each time you log in. Here’s how it works.

• A valid Username and Password must be entered correctly to log in.

• Challenge Questions are created the first time you login. You will be asked to answer a Challenge Question or receive a one-time passcode to log into Online Banking.

• The device you are using to log in – computer, mobile phone, or tablet – must be recognized and registered through Online Banking.

• Your location is detected as you log in to Online Banking. If a login is made from a new location, (for example while you are on vacation) you may be prompted to answer one of your challenge questions.

Identifying Us Each time you log in, the system will verify you through your Username and Password. It also lets you identify us by using an Extended Validation (EV) certificate. EV certificates are an anti-phishing security feature, providing a visual confirmation that you are on an authentic website.

With this certificate, you will see some or all of the following features to verify you are entering our secure site:

• All or part of your website address bar will be green. • Our Online Banking partner’s name, Fiserv, Inc. or Trusted will

appear in the address bar. • A padlock icon will appear in the address bar.

The EV certificate may display differently depending on the type of web browser you use.

Secure Webpages Our website and Online Banking both utilize Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocols. SSL provides a secure channel for data transmission by encrypting the data and ensures the data cannot be altered during transmission. To use Online Banking, South State Bank requires an internet browser that supports 128-bit encryption.  Please note: anytime you see a website that begins with https instead of http, you know you are using a secure connection through SSL.

In addition to SSL encryption, South State Bank was issued a certificate for the bank’s server. This means our Online Banking is a safe and secure site that has been verified and passed a malware scan.

Firewall To stop unauthorized users from reaching our bank’s servers, we utilize hardware and software firewalls. These firewalls act as a communications filter to stop malicious communications. For added security, your data passes through a series of firewalls that scramble your information to ensure only authorized South State Bank representatives can read it.

Security / A2

Automatic Log Out Using the Log Out button on any site is the best way to safely end the secure connection between your computer and a server.  Online Banking has an automatic log out feature that will automatically end your session if there is no activity for 15 minutes.

Forgot Password If you forget your Password, you can reset it by clicking “Forgot Password” on the login screen. From there, follow the instructions on the screen to reset your Password.

Your new Online Banking Password must include between 8-17 characters, at least one number, one uppercase letter and one lowercase letter.
