2. How to Access SENECA Learning

How to sign up to Seneca Learning Seneca Learning is an online learning platform that provides revision materials and questions which will enhance and develop student’s learning in all subjects. Many students in the school will have already signed up to the site and used it in their lessons. If they haven’t, please follow this guide to create an account Creating an account

Type in the following web address into the URL (www.senecalearning.com). The site works best using Google Chrome as your browser. You will be greeted by this screen. Choose the sign up button in the top right corner as circled

You will then be required to enter your details. We advise that students use their school email address. Each email address begins with their username that they have to access the computers in school. They all follow the format of the year they leave Woodchurch, then their surname and then the first letter of their first name. After this ALL student’s email addresses end with @woodchurch-high.wirral.sch.uk. We also advise that students use the password of woodchurch so it can be easily remembered. Finally students should select the option, I’m a student

3. How to Access MathsWatch Woodchurch High School – Guide to Mathswatch All students at Woodchurch High School have access to an online Maths platform called Mathswatch. The platform provides students with the following:

• Videos explaining a range of topics • Questions on these topics which are marked instantly online • Additional worksheets with questions and answers that can be printed if preferred

Login:

If there are any issues with logging in, please contact Mr Hewson, Director of Maths [email protected]

How to Use:

A comprehensive list of all topics that students need to know can be found under the “My Progress” Tab.

This stores a students’ progress as they attempt the Interactive Questions, enabling parents/carers to see: what students have been working on, whether they have mastered the topics studied, and when they last accessed the videos and questions.

To access Videos and Questions, students should click on the Videos tab at the top of the page. If selecting KS3, pupils then key in the required video number (if known) into the Search Box, or search for a particular topic (e.g. “percentages”).

Page 9: ONLINE LEARNING GUIDE - Woodchurch High School...VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) SENECA Learning (an online learning , platform), or MathsWatch. Much of the work referred to in

9

If selecting GCSE, pupil can search by Area of Maths, Key Word, or Grade. Pupils must also ensure that they have selected the correct Tier for their class (only sets 1 and 2 need to access Higher tier content). Once a topic has been selected, students have 3 things to do:

• Video – Mathswatch automatically loads a video between 3 and 20 minutes in length dependent on the topic. Students can click “One Minute Maths” if they want a shorter version which goes into less detail.

• Interactive Questions – These must be completed for Mathswatch to register that

the topic has been completed. They are subdivided into “Standard” and “Harder” questions. They tell the student if a calculator can be used, and what percentage of students get the question correct.

Page 10: ONLINE LEARNING GUIDE - Woodchurch High School...VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) SENECA Learning (an online learning , platform), or MathsWatch. Much of the work referred to in

• Worksheet – This is useful for students who want additional practice or who struggle working on computers.

What to Study: A comprehensive list of videos linked to the scheme of work that the students have studied this year is available with this guide.

5.15 BTEC Music Music of the ‘Noughties’ As music, and more importantly music technology advancements start to have a larger impact on the way we listen to music—read these BIG think questions and evaluate the impact of these advancements. You may want to use this website to reaffirm some of your ideas by listening to the podcasts: https://www.npr.org/series/120180908/the-decade-in-music-00s?t=1584359321639 1. MP3 as a format for music really took off in the 00’s. What are

the advantages of music being available in MP3 and how does it compare to other formats, such as CD or Vinyl?

2. MP3 meant a lot of artists could store their music online. This obviously has negative consequences for the artists relating to Piracy and illegal downloads. What are the advantages and disadvantages of online distribution from an artist’s point of view?

3. Mobile devices and music devices such as the iPod enable people to access music remotely wherever they are. What are the advantages and disadvantages of accessing music through a remote device via headphones/internal speakers?

4. “You don’t need to be able to sing to be a famous singer!” Robbie Williams once said when asked about Autotune. Do you think music software has improved the way recorded music sounds, or has it made it worse?

Prepare two performances from this decade that can be recorded when we return to school. If you haven’t got access to a keyboard at home, ‘Free Piano’ is a good app from Google Play/ App Store If you have any issues, please contact Mr Gregory, Subject Leader, by email on [email protected]
