Before the Auction

Catalog Browse this catalog and plan your bidding. If you are a donor, check your donations for errors or omissions and contact Steve Sander at [email protected] if you find a critical error. We can correct it online and in the addendum that will be distributed.

Registration You must be registered to bid. You can register here. Within 24 hours, you will receive your paddle number by email.

Bidding by Proxy If you are unable to attend or are uncomfortable with online bidding, but are interested in an item, you can give a friend a price range and have them bid for you. If you don’t know anyone who can bid for you, email the item numbers, names and your maximum bids to Nancy Artus at [email protected] ahead of time. She will arrange a proxy bidder for you.

Silent Auction Silent Auction Access

The silent auction will be held on Google Sheets. Only registered bidders will be emailed the links.

Silent Auction Dates

There will be no silent auction bidding the night of the live auction. You will be able to see the bid sheets at any time using the links. However, bidding will only be possible during the following biddings sessions. (The sheets will be locked for editing at other times.)

Saturday ................... October 9 .................11:30-12:30 Sunday ...................... October 10 ...............11:30-12:30 Sunday ...................... October 17 ...............12:30-1:30 Wednesday .............. October 20 ...............7:30-8:30 pm Friday ........................ October 22 ...............7:00-8:30 pm

Live Auction Live Auction October 23

The live auction will be Saturday October 23 on Zoom. The Zoom session will start with social time at 6:30 pm (you’re welcome to eat your dinner/ desserts while we Zoom). The auctioneer will start at 7:00, and it should last 1 hour or a little more. The link and password will be emailed to all registered bidders. (If you wish to join the fun, be sure to register. You are not obligated to bid.) When you join the Zoom session, change your screen name to include your paddle number before your name. For example, “29 Curt and Nancy.” (We will help you with this.)

Bell Ringers From time to time throughout the evening, there will be occasions when an item or service is offered more than once. When this occurs, after the bidding is over, a bell will be rung, and the item or service will be offered to the next highest bidder(s) as well as the highest bidder at the next highest bid. For example, suppose there is a mad and furious bidding for Five hours of Domestic Service. Several people bid this up to $150, then all but one drop out and the final bid of $155 is accepted. If this had been a bell ringer item, a bell would be rung and both bidders who bid $150 will be offered the item for that price.

Bidding Beginning Bids and Fixed Price Bids

Minimum bids have been specified for most items. If you are the first to bid on an item, you may start at the minimum bid or higher. Occasionally you will find “fixed price” items where several are available. In this case, you may simply enter the fixed price and you are guaranteed to win. If you want more than one, use more than one line on the sheet.

Multiple Bids The parties and some meals are offered for four or more people. The bidding is on a per-seat basis. If it is in the silent auction, complete one line for each seat you want on the online sheet.

If it is in the live, Zoom auction, the auctioneer will open the bidding at the minimum price and will ask who’s willing to pay that price. If more people are interested than there are seats, the auctioneer will raise the bid and ask again. This process will be repeated as people drop out of the bidding until the number of people still bidding fills the seats.

After the Auction Payment

The day after the live auction, you will be emailed an invoice with all your winnings listed. Payment can be made four ways:

• Send your check to UCWC, 501 S. High St., West Chester, PA 19382 (preferred, since no transactions fee are charged to UCWC). Please put “auction” and your paddle number in the memo line.

• Via this online link. There will be a blank field next to the dollar amount where we request that you please enter your paddle number.

• Via this PayPal link. There will be a comment field where we request that you please enter your paddle number.

• Via this PayPal QR code. There will be a comment field where we request that you please enter your paddle number.

Collecting on Your Items

• The donor’s name and contact information will be listed on your invoice.

• It is your responsibility to contact the donor and arrange for delivery of the service at a mutually agreeable time. You needn’t contact the donor immediately; you have up to one year to collect on your items, unless otherwise specified by the donor’s description.

• If you have any questions about how to contact the donor, you can email [email protected].

7 Travel Back to Renaissance Germany: An Evening with Agnes Dürer. With all that's going on, I can really believe we are in the end times described in Revelations. The peasants are revolting, the theologians are squabbling, and the plague is once more upon us. Fortunately, God gave my husband the gift of painting so at least we don't starve. At the tender age of 13 my husband, Albrecht Dürer, invented the self-portrait and went on to control several different media, one of them a brand new one. And speaking of brands, he designed his own and became so famous, even amongst those wily Venetians, that they copied it! One of his pictures is even today, centuries after his death, to be found in many German homes. Moreover, he combined artistic talent with savvy business acumen. Now if only he would just stay here in Nuremberg with me instead of gallivanting all over Italy and the Low Countries! Costumed art historian Jaan Troltenier plays the wife of painter Albrecht Dürer. Find out how Dürer's native city of Nuremberg played an important role in his meteoric rise, how his art reflects his times, and what role his art has played in German history, even in the 20th century.
