Q: I have raspberry canes that grew to approx. 6ft. tall last summer and was picking fruit until early December. They are about 4 years old now and are situated near my compost and loving it. I am not sure what to do to prepare them for another plentiful season. Do I cut them back to a reasonable height or cut them way back?

A: To prune or not prune is a question I get asked a lot this time of year. The answer depends on whether a flowering or fruit-bearing plant bears flowers or fruit on old or new wood. If they bloom or bear fruit on new wood (new growth), an aggressive spring pruning is recommended. This is usually the case for those fruits or flowers that appear in late spring to summer. However, if they bear flowers or fruit on old wood, you do not want to prune at this time of year, the only pruning you want to do is to remove dead wood or any damaged or diseased stems. Good examples of flowering shrubs are forsythia and lilacs. As for your raspberries, most varieties bear this year’s fruit on last year’s growth, meaning the

only thing you should prune this time of year are canes that had fruit on them last year, and canes that are dead and not budding.

Q: I had a terrible problem with slugs in my garden. Trying to deal with them in an environmentally friendly way, I was told to put beer in containers at ground level and the slugs would be attracted to that instead of my garden plants. Some liked to drink and drown and some liked my plants instead. This remedy did not solve the problem. Any suggestions that work?

A. Slugs are challenging. The best way of controlling slug populations is proper watering. Slugs enjoy environments that are warm and wet, and being nocturnal, they enjoy this environment at night. I always recommend morning watering of gardens for two reasons. Firstly, it is the most efficient use of water. Second, morning watering minimizes the chances of disease (plants dry quickly after watering) and insects … like slugs. By watering in the morning, your plants and

gardens will go to bed at night dry and this will reduce slug populations dramatically. Also, try a generous layer of crushed eggs shells spread around the base of your prized plants. This should help!

Q: I have a mossy type of growth in my mostly perennial back garden. It used to be just around rocks and stepping stones, but now I see it on the base of my irises and covering the ground where my lilies are about to show. Is this something to worry about? Will it damage or overtake my perennials? If I start removing it, is there any special direction?

A: I would love to see a picture of this! But let’s assume your moss is just moss … the exact same type that you see on the forest floor (green spongy and soft to touch). Moss is a fungus. Ideal conditions for the growth of moss are shaded locations with compacted soils that are acidic. To remove moss or rid your area of moss solutions, include reducing compaction by aerating or turning the soil, improving light by selectively pruning some branches from trees high above, and finally, sweeten the soil by reducing the acidity through the application of horticultural lime. Will the moss harm your plants? No. However, the lack of light, compaction and acidic soil may harm them.

Q: Our front lawn is losing the battle to crab grass. How can I get rid of it? Eco friendly of course. My husband says round up and start again. Please help. Our front lawn is about 50 ft by 100 ft.

A: The way to battle best is to get to know your enemies! Your enemy “crabgrass” is an annual weed that each and every year gains growth on your lawn via the germination of seed. Crabgrass is not perennial. First line of attack is to prevent

crabgrass from germinating through an application of corn gluten (for this I recommend something like CIL Bio-Weed and Feed). This is only effective in early spring before crabgrass seeds have germinated and may be a little late for this year. Second line of defence is to cut your lawn at a height of three inches to shade weed seeds and reduce the amount of light they receive. Third line of defence is to strengthen your lawn by topdressing, over-seeding (note: this cannot be done simultaneously with corn gluten application — you need to wait 6–8 weeks after) and fertilizing (I recommend CIL GOLD). Finally, hand removal when you see crabgrass always helps toward victory in the crabgrass battle!

Q: Page 297 of your new book, “Pot It Up,” provides ideas for the ‘Strawberry Dazzler’ container. Would you recommend planting the Rex Begonia in its original pot then sinking it in the larger container with the impatiens around it? You have suggested planting some plants in their pots on some of your shows.

A: Rex Begonia makes a perfect partner to impatiens and other part-sun to shade-loving annuals and perennials. You could plant directly into the container or plant the “Rex” in its pot in the container. I recommend this because of the ease of removal. In early spring, this is a great trick for those tender plants that don’t like cold nights. Planting them in their pot allows for the gardener to remove just that plant, instead of taking the whole container in. This also works well for those invasive plants that could bully other plant varieties in container mixes. In short, the answer to your question is YES!

Q: My magnolia was about to bloom when the cold weather hit. Now all the buds and half open blooms are brown. I guess that’s it for this year, or will there

be a long term effect? Will the tree bud again this year or will we have to wait until next year?

A. While we were blessed with warm temperatures in March, we had to face the downside of too fast of a warm up in early spring. Yes, your magnolia blooms that have browned have been touched by frost, and yes they are done for this year. Will this have long term effects? No, however, if we continue to be dry this spring, many plants will be lost. Just remember: winters don’t kill many plants and trees. The hot, dry weather of summer stresses all plants, especially those who solely rely on Mother Nature for water. If this is a dry year we are in trouble! I also anticipate the mild temperatures of this winter will result in an increase of bugs and disease. Undoubtedly we are in for an interesting garden season!

Q: I have a large maple tree and no grass under it. I have used special shade grass seed for Canada and it did not take. I would like to know what kind of grass seed I should use, as I really want to have grass under the tree.

A. Let’s first shed some light on why growing grass under a tree is so challenging. This relates to Darwin’s survival of the fittest. Your maple is the ‘big guy’ who takes all the moisture and all the light for himself. Grass requires moisture and light to grow, and your maple prevents this, so the battle will continue. There is a solution that works but it’s not grass. I would recommend topdressing and overseeding this area with a

50/50 mixture of shade grass seed and white clover. The white clover grows in low light areas and poor conditions. And while it’s not grass, it is green and soft to walk on. Your other option is to mulch the area.

Spring is finally here. The weather is getting nicer, you’re opening up your windows, putting your sweaters away, and what is that you see? The windows are surrounded by dust and the closet is cluttered. It’s time for Spring cleaning. Don’t dread yet! With proper planning you can clean your home with ease.

So much to Do!There are two ways to divide tasks to make the whole mission less over whelming. The first way is to divide them throughout the year. This way you won’t have to do everything in one day or week-end. Make a list of tasks like cleaning the windows or polishing the silverware and assign one or two tasks to a month. The second way is to use all of one month, May is usually preferred, and divide up the tasks to do each weekend. With family, you can give each family member a task or few and have everything done in one weekend or even one day. Kids may not always want to participate in chores, but by playing music and providing motivation like seeing a movie afterwards, it’s not too difficult to gather your recruits. Whether you live in a two story house or an apartment, start from the top and work your way down. Meaning start with the top floor and work your way to the first floor or basement and clean from the ceiling down, pushing dirt to the floor and clean the floor last.

Natural and Nifty Tricks When it comes to cleaning products, try using natural remedies for a healthier home. White

vinegar works wonders with windows and mirrors. Just add one part vinegar to one part hot water. For an all purpose cleaner, use a touch of dish soap in a hot water. For furniture polish, mix 1 cup of olive oil and 1/2 cup of lemon juice. When dusting, use a microfiber cloth which picks up every spec of dust. You can also use a fabric softener sheet, another dust magnet, and give the room a nice fresh scent.

Out With The Old With the weather getting warmer, putting win-ter stuff away, and bringing summer stuff out, this is a good time to start sorting through things that have been piling up and can be donated or put into a garage sale. If you have a hard time figuring out which clothes to get rid of, try this clever trick. Near the end of summer, turn all of your hangers around. As you wear clothes, put the hangers back the right way around. Come Spring, when all kinds of weather has passed, you’ll be able to see what clothes you don’t wear because they’re hangers are still turned around.

Some things need a much more frequent clean (ie. the bathroom and kitchen), but by getting into the nooks and crannies now and then, your home will stay wonderfully clean!

The biggest fear is the same crash that affected America will happen on our soil in the coming years. The stability of any market will be based on interest rates, immigration and economy, to make it simple. If the average Canadian is making enough money to make a down payment and the interest rates are appealing for investors to buy Real Estate instead of bonds, stocks, and RSPs, then there will be sufficient demand to keep prices rising and houses coming on the market. Despite concerns that the Toronto condo market will burst, buyers are still buying like it’s Black Friday in Smalltown USA because of the basic factors mentioned earlier and business people hoping to live close to work. The rest of Canada has had inconsistent markets, although Newfoundland house prices are up 166% since 2000. Their economy is doing so well, the talk of prices declining there is much less frequent than in the home of the Maple Leafs. What’s in store for the diverse land of the free? The average price of a detached home is $368,900 in 2012 and this figure is projected to rise to $379,000 in 2013. Keeping the market balanced will be important to make these numbers look appealing to Canucks. The number of new listings compared to sales gives us a Sales-To-New Listing Ratio determining if it’s a Sellers’ or Buyers’ market. Currently in Toronto it’s a Sellers’ market where bidding wars are frequent. Careful strategies must be played in order to come out the victor.

Will the bubble burst? I think the answer is right there in front of us. The situation we are in hardly compares to what happened in the U.S. We took every precautionary measure to prevent a crash with shortening amortization periods to 30 years max and decreasing the equity homeowners can pull from their largest lifetime investments. We have a fair and stable economy so my prediction is a smooth sailing market for years to come, safe to invest in and smart to stay in it. There will be an adjustment to even things out once interest rates do go up, but that will not decrease prices. It will only make people realize that the right home for them is one they can afford.

is The Bubble Going To Burst?Lately Canadians have been cautious about the Real Estate market’s sharp turn for record breaking prices, especially Toronto and Vancouver where the markets have steadily risen up to 11% annually.

Pet ownership remains on the rise in North America — and this recent wave

of general interest includes the aquarium segment of the industry. Interest has been influenced by popular cultural icons like Nemo and advances in technology. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA), there are an estimated 150 million pet fish in the US (compared to 74.8 million pet dogs). During the past decade, fish were one of the fastest growing categories of pets (growing more than 20 percent over the previous decade). Lately, Laura’s been trying to breed fish in her tank, so the topic has been on our minds. According to her friend Nick who prolifically breeds Guppies, she’s been “doing it” all wrong — she has too many different kinds of fish in the tank. The problem is that they require different water temperatures and ph levels to get them in the mood, so to speak. And all this time, she just thought the female parrot

otg | pEts

By Jen Mitchell and Laura DucharmeLooking for a mate in this big pond of Toronto? It’s not easy. Women out number men and competition is fierce. Meanwhile, fish have got it all figured out. Take the fresh water swordtails for example. If there is a group of all females in an isolated area with no males around, the hormone level

in the water will cause some of the females to change into males to keep the species existing. As soon as they make fish babies — they change back into females!

plenty of Fish

fish was playing hard to get! Nick recommends that she practice with the frisky guppy. The stunning fan tailed males will produce some handsome offspring with little effort. Believe it or not, goldfish have a rather exciting and potentially dangerous mating life. The male chases the female for hours, bumping into her abdomen in an effort to get the female to eject her eggs so that he can fertilize them. This is called the “spawning chase”. Often times, there are several males “courting” one female. At times it’s chaotic and the female, desperate to get away from all her aggressive suitors, may jump and injure herself against rocks or end up on dry land. So ladies, we’ve come to the conclusion that the best fish to be just might be a sea horse. Male sea horses are strong sensitive types. There’s a beautiful courtship that takes place before the deed is done. Daily pre-dawn dances include the intertwining of tails and swimming together. After a good amount of bonding time, they engage in a true courtship dance. And, get this, the

female deposits her eggs into the male’s pouch! The caring dads incu-bate the eggs, preparing them for a life at sea, until they are finally ready to expel the “fry” from the pouch. If you’re thinking about getting fish as pets, we love Carl Hayden, an amazing “fish guy” with his own aquarium servicing business. He once told us that he “knows more than the internet” when it comes to fish — and we simply have to agree. He takes time to answer everyone’s questions and loves to talk fish. Find him at www.carlsaquarium.com.

Hair Grow Technology’s Bio-Fen® product line is continually moving forward! We are introducing our two latest versions; Bio-Fen® Plus for Men and Bio-Fen® Plus for Women. These products have been assigned Natural Product Numbers (NPN’s) by Health Canada.aWe recognize that both men and women experience androgenic alopecia (AGA, or male /female pattern baldness) and have made some improvements to the original formulation basedon the latest science to address their specific needs. You will notice that we now have additionalcomplementary (Health Canada Approved) health claims on each product.

How does Bio-Fen® PLUS work?We are bringing you two new products with double the number of capsules and triplethe number of health claims for men and four times the number of health claims for women.

As in the previous formulation, the fenugreek seed extract in both new formulas reducesexcess blood lipid levels (hyperlipidemia). Fenugreek contains β-sitosterol, an activeplant sterol, which has been shown to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase activity – theenzyme responsible for converting excess testosterone to DHT (which is the primary molecule that causes hair loss). The SDG (secoisolariciresinoldiglucoside) from flax lignans in both formulas also decreases excess cholesterol- the building block of testosterone. Based on new research on therate of metabolism of SDG in flax lignans (8-12 hours on average),the dosage in both products has been revised from once a day totwice a day for optimum results.

Twice the Strength! Twice the Power!Bio-Fen® Plus for Men:As before, the saw palmetto extract inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, and this action slows down the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (or DHT) – theoverabundance of which causes the miniaturization of hair follicles. This activity of the saw palmetto also helps to relieve the urinarysymptoms of mild to moderate BPH for men. The saw palmetto that originally was an extract standardized to45% free fatty acids, esters, and sterols while the new formula is a4:1 extract to support the BPH claim. The product still containsthese molecules for hair loss, but they are now at proprietaryamounts based on our research so that the competition cannot duplicate our formula.

Bio-Fen® Plus for Men will also help to:• Relieve the urologic symptoms associated with mild to moderate benign prostatic

hyperplasia - BPH (e.g. weak urine flow, incomplete voiding, frequent daytime and night time urination).

• Reduce elevated blood lipid levels / hyperlipidemia.

Bio-Fen® Plus for Women:The women’s formula is almost the same as the men’s formula. The mechanisms and results forthe women formula is the same. The only difference is it contains silicon and iron instead of sawpalmetto. Silicon has been shown to contribute to hair shaft strength and thus healthy hairgrowth. It also contains iron which helps prevent iron deficiency. A number of studies haverelated sub-clinical iron deficiency in women to diffuse hair loss/alopecia.The increased amount of SDG and other revisions to the regulations allow us to make someadditional health claims for Bio-Fen® Plus for Women.

Bio-Fen® Plus for Women will also help to:• Reduce elevated blood lipid levels/hyperlipidemia

• Prevent iron deficiency.• Metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

How long must I use Bio-Fen® Plus? Bio-Fen® Plus for Men capsules are usually effective at stoppinghair loss within the first two months. However, since healthyhair grows only about 1 cm each month, it may take up tothree months before you notice that hair growth is increased or the rate of hair loss is decreased. Anyone experiencing newgrowth should see it within four months. In some people the original pigmentation may come back. Once you stop completely your hair growth pattern will slowly go back to thepoint where you started. However, some people may be ableto go with a lower maintenance dose.

What is the quality of Bio-Fen®Plus for Men?Bio-Fen® Plus for Men is manufactured in Canada according toquality assurance specifications called Good ManufacturingPractices (GMP). This ensures that the ingredients are tested fortheir level of quality, potency & purity, prior to production andthe finished product prior to sale.

Hair Grow Technology (Bio-Fen® Plus) is a progressive company - we continually seek out thelatest research on bioactive ingredients, and on regulatory updates in the natural healthproducts industry.

In order to lose pounds and strengthen your heart cardiovascular exercise is

essential. The myth that you have to stay on a cardio machine for an hour or more is wrong. If you are limited on time a simple and effective way to torch a lot of calories can be done with interval training.

Intervals are where you bring your heart rate up for 60 seconds or less and then bring it down to recover. An example would be if you were running on the treadmill you would sprint really hard for up to 60 seconds, and then step off and rest for 30 seconds, after the 30 seconds of resting jump back on and sprint again. Perform up to 10 intervals for maximum calorie burn.

When strength training, otherwise known as weight training, most people think you need over an hour in the gym to target all major muscle groups. This is also a myth. A good way to get a full body workout in a small amount of time is to perform circuits.

Most of us have heard of circuit training but don’t really know what it is. Basically circuit training is doing a series of exercises back to back with no rest in between. The only time you rest is after the completed circuit. With little resting, you cut back on time and can be in and out of the gym with a full body workout.

Make fitness a priority in your life to ensure good health. Always take time out to take care

of yourself. With these simple tips the excuse I have no time is gone. Have a healthy May and get prepared for summer!

sizzling ribsFor great summer eating, nothing beats ribs on the grill, moist and succulent with mouth-watering flavour. Ribs are always in great demand, especially in the summer months. Knowing what to look for and how to prepare them will make you a rib connoisseur.

otg | REcipEs

BaCK RIBS: Back ribs come from the loin section. They are the same bones that you find on pork loin chops. The bones, or ribs, are small and more rounded in cross section than those of side ribs. More tender than side ribs, with a greater meat to bone ratio, back ribs might cost a little more than side ribs.BUTTON BONES: Back ribs may have a tail section attached but it is usually removed and sold separately as “button bones”. They can be prepared the same as back ribs.BaBy BaCK RIBS: These are identical in every way to regular back ribs.SIDE RIBS: Side ribs lie directly adjacent to the belly, running from the point at which back ribs end to the breast bone (sternum). Side ribs are less tender, contain cartilage, and tend to be less expensive than back ribs, nevertheless they make for great eating if correctly prepared. SPaRE RIBS: An alternative name for side ribs and more common in the USA.COUNTRy STyLE RIBS: Country style ribs are the same cut as the bone-in rib roast, except that a longitudinal cut is made through the ribs and then butterflied open. These ribs can be roasted or braised as for a rib roast or cut into fingers for grilling.

preparing and Cooking ribs:Before cooking, remove the thin membrane on the curved underside of the ribs. It becomes tough during cooking, and sauces and seasonings won’t penetrate. Slip a spoon handle or knife blade underneath at one end of the rack. Then lift and pull the membrane away. There are a few different methods for making the perfect ribs:Precooking Before Grilling: To precook ribs before grilling, don’t boil them. Instead, put about ½-inch of water in a shallow pan. Season them with a dry rub or add a few lemon slices to the water, and then place the ribs, meaty side up, in the pan and cover with foil. Roast at 325°F (160°C) until tender — about 45 minutes for back ribs, 90 minutes for side ribs. Then grill over medium heat, about 20 minutes, basting with your favourite sauce, and turning often. Grilling – Indirect Cooking (barbecuing) Pork Ribs: Back ribs can be grilled without prior cooking, i.e. from raw. The best way to do this is to use the indirect cooking method and remember low and slow. Heat barbecue to low heat, about 250°F (120°C), turn off one side and place ribs on the “off” side. If using barbecue sauce start basting after thirty minutes, and continue until ribs are cooked and tender, between 1 and a half and 2 and a half hours total. Turn ribs every 20 minutes or so. If using a rub, apply before you start grilling. If using charcoal, wait until coals have died down, bank the coals to one side, and grill on the other side. Keep the lid of the barbecue down, and try to maintain a temperature of 250°F (120°C) throughout the cooking process.Whichever method you choose, you’ll enjoy great ribs on the grill.

In a bowl, thoroughly combine all ingredients. Use to baste pork steaks, chops, kebabs, ribs or roast.

It has been said that there really are only two seasons in Canada, Winter and Patio

season, and with Patio season comes outdoor entertaining with great friends, fabulous food and of course the reason why you all are reading this article, orgasmic cocktails! But, before you start pouring there are a few other points that the seasoned home entertainer will consider before lifting liquids to lips. When you are making cocktails always try to use the freshest ingredients possible. The ingredients that you choose should always be tasted first before

mixing and from your initial taste you will be able to calculate if you need a little more sugar or if you can go a little easier or harder on the muddling of the fruit. When muddling a cocktail always perform the action in the glass that you are serving the drink in because when pressed, the fruit will spurt its essential oils across the surface of the glass intensifying the flavour of your cocktail. By using a shaker you can add texture to the liquid by placing fresh fruit in with a little extra ice and then by shaking a little harder you will be pulverizing the fruit, separating the

jewels of pulp from the pith which will add texture to your cocktails as well as giving some amazing visual appeal. This also works for making the best dirty martini you have ever had. Place 8 olives in your shaker with your liquids and omit the brine. Shake like crazy and you will be amazed at how much better it will taste. After all who wants to kill the flavour of a vodka like Double Cross with oil and salt. This May long weekend heed these tips and I will guarantee they will make your cocktails tops with your friends especially if you make the one below!

NOTL2 oz. Double Cross Vodka1 oz. Fielding Estates Ice wine2 oz. Fielding Estates Sparkling Riesling2 oz. Strain into a champagne saucer and float sparkling wine.Garnish: noneGlassware: Champagne saucer This cocktail is absolutely amazing and the only way you can get the delicate balance and flavour profiles from the sparkling riesling and the ice wine is by using a soft yet flavourful vodka like Double Cross, otherwise you will deaden the liveliness of the flavours in this cocktail.

The War of 1812 was a turning point in Canadian history and the Niagara area saw its share of bloody battles between British and American forces. Several commemorative bicentennial events are taking place including re-enactments on the actual historic battlefields. For a growing number of Canadians, that means hitting the road in a recreational

vehicle. There’s a wide assortment to choose from these days — everything from expensive bus-like motor-homes, to towable travel trailers, to camper vans, to relatively inexpensive pop-up camping trailers. Recreational vehicles are growing in popularity mainly because they’re fun, and provide a greater sense of freedom and adventure compared to standard holiday trips. Although you don’t need a special license to drive most recreational vehicles, it isn’t the same as driving the family car. The experts at Desjardins General Insurance Group advise the following:1 Be cautious and allow more time to brake, change lanes, turn and merge into traffic.2 Be sure your vehicle can handle the trailer you are towing. Most SUVs, light-duty trucks and full and mid-size family cars can pull an RV trailer, but be sure to check the maximum weight and factor in any of your belongings inside the trailer.3 Use the right trailer hitch, connect brake and signal lights and make sure they’re synchronized with your vehicle.

4 Be aware of the height of your vehicle. You wouldn’t want to ruin your vacation by getting your RV stuck or damaged by a tree branch or sign.5 If you’ve never pulled a trailer before, you’ll probably find that backing up is the biggest challenge. If possible, get some practice with the help of someone experienced with trailers before heading out on your holiday. And always ask someone to stand outside the vehicle when reversing to avoid any obstacles not seen in your mirrors. Whether you own or rent your mobile vacation home, it is important to make sure you have adequate insurance coverage before head-ing out into traffic, according to the Desjardins General Insurance Group advisors. They suggest that you contact your insurance company with all the details well in advance of your vacation. Recreational vehicles are manufactured by many different companies with a wide assortment of extras and options, all of which should be taken into account in the insurance coverage. Basically, your RV insurance policy protects you from financial

and other losses that may result in the event of an accident or other unforeseen event. It will typically cover three main areas: damage to your vehicle and trailer including your personal property in the unit, public liability and medical coverage. With the proper insurance coverage, and a sensible, safety-first approach to driving, an RV holiday on the open road could provide a wonderful adventure and memories that last a lifetime. For more RV insur-ance information and for a quote, visit Desjardins General Insurance at www.desjardinsgeneralinsurance.com.— www.newscanada.com

HITTING THE ROAd IN AN Rv, SAFE ANd INSUREdAcross the country, the Victoria Day long-weekend tends to be the official launch of summer. It’s the time of year when everyone throws off their winter coats and quickly dons shorts and tees, even if Environment Canada warns of -5°C with blowing snow. Regardless, Canadians everywhere are itching to get outside and get away.

draw something Available for Android and iOS • $1.99/Free The latest craze to hit mobile devices is the social drawing and guessing game, Draw Something. As the name implies, players take turns choosing and then drawing randomly generated words. The goal is to reach the maximum amount of turns before someone fails to guess a drawing. It’s a sort of mix between Hangman and Pictionary, and it’s incred-ibly addictive. You can challenge opponents via email or user name, or you can let the game randomly select an opponent for you. You can share your progress on Facebook too, if you like. There are two versions available: a paid version and a free version. The difference between the two is that the paid version is advertisement free and includes additional words, bonus coins and hints.

marvel vs. capcom 2 Available for iOS • $4.99 One of the most popular arcade fighters of all time has hit iOS devices. Marvel vs Capcom 2 includes all 56 fighters from the original, including Avengers Captain America and Iron Man and Capcom favourites Ryu and Mega Man. Players can square off on their iPhones via Bluetooth, but unfortunately there is no online multiplayer mode. Hopefully this will be addressed in a future update. The touchscreen controls have been handled very well in this latest port, and special moves are easy to perform using the new “flick” feature. The graphics and animations are near-perfect and the combat system is as rewarding as ever.

minecraft: pocket EditionAvailable for Android and iOS • $6.99It was bound to happen. A portable version of the PC bestseller Minecraft. If you’re new to Minecraft, here’s a quick rundown: At the outset, you’re given a randomly generated world. This world can include lakes, deserts, mountains and more. Then you’re given access to 44 blocks and a number of tools and set loose, free to build anything you can imagine. You can populate your world with various animals, and even craft items that allow for even more freedom. There are a number of cross-platform multiplayer features as well for sharing your world with your friends. Minecraft: Pocket Edition isn’t a direct port of its PC counterpart, but with its regular updates and growing community, it’s not far off.

tunein Radio proAvailable for Android, blackberry and iOS • $0.99/FreeThe ultimate radio app, TuneIn Radio Pro offers access to live local and global radio stations through your mobile device. There are over 50,000 stations to browse, or you can search for your favourite stations, shows, songs or artists. November 23 – December 20: Mixed emotions directed towards your home life, social life and work life become a burden for you to carry. The past and money are also going to be making you worry and stress; this is a fact you must accept and it will be with you for some time. In order for you to get through this you must remain optimistic.

May 21 – June 21: You seek a certain type of amusement, but it may not be available to you right now and you are going to have to place another’s needs before yours. It is important to openly communicate during this time to make sure you both understand the sacrifice you are making. You also need to be wary when it comes to sweets and other foods you love.

June 22 – July 23: All you may be thinking about through out your day is getting away somewhere, going somewhere foreign or exotic, settling in a new country… All without letting anyone know of your plans. It seems like a fabulous idea right now, but you will find yourself out of your comfort zone, alone and lost. Think more before you act on it.

December 21 – January 20: During May you will get the chance to redeem yourself and feel whole again. Compassion, communication and caring are going to help you through this process; it will open up parts of you that you never even knew existed. Instead of making decisions based on instinct you should make them based on forgiveness.

february 20 – March 20: A lack of self or direction will overcome you during May and continue on into the next month. Once that brief period is over then you will feel a direction in life. Inspiration will come to you in the form of ideas or visions. You should think about these ideas before you act on them because nothing will be realistic at first.

August 24 – september 22: In order to achieve cooperation from others, especially loved ones, you must learn selflessness. By doing so it will help fulfill your purpose in life. You may feel like you have no direction or you haven’t achieved anything great, but selflessness will fill that void. While working on yourself it is important to maintain a clear mind.

March 21 – April 19: You may find that you’ve withdrawn into almost a dream-like state, similar to that of a Pisces, and no one seems to understand you anymore. Do not fret, you are not depressed and this will not last. Until the spell breaks beware of the feeling of abandonment, clumsiness and lack of direction ( just for a month or two).

september 23 – October 22: You may feel that you do not have a home you can settle into for a long period of time and you’re on the look out for a better arrangement. It may be because you, yourself is changing. You seek organization in your life along with peace and tranquility. Remain on the look out at all times because something better is headed your way.

April 20 – May 20: During May you will be very group oriented. Your main focuses are the hopes, dreams and goals of the group and you will let nothing get in your way to make it happen. Even though the goals are not yet ready to be harvested, you shouldn’t allow it to discourage you. Be patient and allow the groups aspirations to become ripe for the picking.

January 21 – february 19: You may be wondering where your money went and where more of it will come from. Try to give to those in need in ways you never thought of before instead of worrying solely about yourself. By doing so it will bring you more in return. If you give to others, more will be given to you, so you can continue giving.

July 24 – August 23: Money is on your side during May. People will realize this and come to you with ideas, promises of power and devastating tales; but do not fall into a trap, you must keep a clear mind. The money may get you thinking about winning a previous lover back but do not follow through. These burdens will ease up soon.

May 2012

October 23 – November 22: Material items such as jewelry, clothing, artwork and things you believe are worth investing in occupy all of your desire. You should be careful and watch your needless spending and focus on saving your money and purchasing only the necessities. Social functions are another hot button for you, so take part and enjoy!
