F or to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government
shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
When Paul wrote those words there were almost no Christians in government, and yet the government’s role is still to provide justice and protection.
5. Christ saves even the worst of sinners. — (1 Timothy 1:14-15)
As recipients of God’s grace, we should never write off any person or group of people.
6. The Church has a great commission from Christ to make disciples of all nations. — (Matthew 28:18-20)
Even if we’re at war, we’re to remember that our higher calling as Christians is to win that nation to Christ.
7. God’s people are commanded to love enemies and immigrants.
The Bible does not support total pacifism, but even if we must be at war, we must love our enemies. We cannot allow patriotism or support for a war to cloud our hearts with hatred (Matthew 5:43-45).
The same holds true for immigrants. Nations have the right to protect their borders and regulate immigration, but support for such policies do not give Christians the right to disobey the commandments to extend love and support to the foreigners who live around you (Deuteronomy 10:18-19; 14:29;24:14-22).
slamic terrorism and immigration are legitimate national security concerns,
but for many American Christians, these fears are bringing out un-Christlike attitudes toward foreigners. Here are seven Biblical principles to help us think with a Christian world view about protecting our nation and showing compassion.
1. All people are made in God’s image and should therefore be treated with respect. — (Genesis 1:26-27)
If we forget this, we will find ourselves justifying our own heinous actions in service to our warped sense of justice.
2. Evil is real, and it dwells in the heart of every person. — (Genesis 3-11; Romans 3:23)
If we forget this, we won’t have courage to fight evil.
3. God gives grace to all people so that humans not fall into worse injustice and chaos. — (1 Timothy 2:1-4; Matthew 5:45)
God bestows certain blessings on all people, even the ones whom he knows will never repent. This is called “common grace”. He wants what’s best for people and societies.
4. God has ordained that governments protect their citizens, through the use of force, if necessary. — (Romans 13:3-4)

appy Hearts gathered December 3 at the Golden Corral for a “Celebration of Christmas.” About 28
people attended, with two first-time attendees. Bro. Jeremy Brown, ISFBC Worship Pastor, opened with a prayer of concern for everyone and a blessing for the meal. Great food, fellowship and Christmas carols filled the celebration. Bro. Charlie Dale, ISFBC Pastor, led the closing prayer. Everyone concluded by singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
