Rating & Recommendations:
Gartner Final Report: Zero-Based Budget Review - ID G00333051
Magic Quadrant for Hyperconverged Infrastructure
Gartner Report Published 6 February 2018 - ID G00333051
VMware offers the broadest set of hyperconverged
solutions — either as a turnkey software appliance,
as a rack-scale software-defined data center solution
(VMware Cloud Foundation) or as HCIaaS — to meet
the diverse performance, scalability, security and
total cost of ownership (TCO) needs of
organizations.
VMware offers a set of well-integrated software
products in vSphere, vSAN and vCenter, which makes
management and support simple for virtualization
administrators, obviating the need to learn new GUIs
or complex storage abstracts.
VMware has kept the product competitive through
an aggressive software release cycle to provide
advanced data services and enhancements, such as
software encryption that eliminates the need for
expensive, self-encrypting drives, and stretched
clusters that can tolerate site failures.
Cloud Pricing ModelThe below prices are the maximum you will be charged per month. If the
server is shut down during the billing period you will see a reduced price
on vCPU and Memory.
General Cloud Cluster
vCPU (Core) $43.00
Memory (GB) $9.00
Storage (GB) $0.10
SQL Cloud Cluster
vCPU (Core) $43.00
Memory (GB) $11.00
Storage (GB) $0.14
Storage – All Flash High Speed Storage
• The Washington State Cloud environment includes a State
of the Art storage technology called vSAN.
• vSAN eliminates the need for expensive dedicated SAN
equipment.
• Does not require a dedicated Storage Administrator
• Reduces network service dependencies
• All storage is located in the host hardware allowing for
faster response times
• Less billing complexity - One price tier for storage

Trend Micro Deep Security Microsegmentation
Cloud VM’s can be protected by Deep Security which provides advanced server security for physical, virtual, and cloud servers. It protects enterprise applications and data from breaches and business disruptions without requiring emergency patching. This comprehensive, centrally-managed platform helps you simplify security operations while enabling regulatory compliance and accelerating the ROI of virtualization and cloud projects.
Anti-Malware is also included in this package.

ROADMAP
Roadmap
WS Cloud Roadmap
VMware NSX Network Virtualization and Security Platform
NSX enables the creation of entire networks in software and embeds them in the hypervisor layer, abstracted from the underlying physical hardware. All network components can be provisioned in minutes, without the need to modify the application.
NSX embeds security functions right into the hypervisor. It delivers micro-segmentation and granular security to the individual workload, enabling a fundamentally more secure data center. Security policies travel with the workloads, independent of where workloads are in the network topology.
Use of NSX would greatly reduce the Networking and Firewall group dependencies which in turn would speed up new customer onboarding by several weeks.
WS Cloud Roadmap• Encryption-at-Rest
Current versions of vSAN Storage software supports Encryption-at-Rest. Over the next few months we will be testing the product. We hope to be able to offer this in the Spring of 2019.
• OPX Storage SolutionWaTech is currently in the release phase of an RFP for a OPX Storage Solution which will offer tiered storage for all Agencies needs. This solution will allow us to expand and decrease storage needs without capital expense.
• Backup Solution New customer use of the current WaTech Avamar Backup service is diminishing. Most customers state that the cost is too high. The current solution will be replaced with a solution which is hardware agonistic. This will allow us to utilize low cost storage, which in turn lowers backup costs for customers. Expected replacement would be before June 30, 2019.
• Compliance CertificationsOver the next year we will be working with VMWare and internal WaTech security groups to evaluate the security of the WS Cloud and how it aligns with industry standard compliance rules.
