What is Outdoor Pursuits?The Outdoor Pursuits program is a division of Florida Gulf Coast

University’s Campus Recreation department. “OP” is a student

centered program that strives to educate and enhance the collegiate

experience through quality outdoor adventure trips, educational

clinics, and team-building initiatives. It is our hope to cultivate the

lifelong commitment to healthy outdoor pursuits, environmental

stewardship, and personal development.

Adventure TRips and Backyard Programs

About our Adventure Trips:Each semester the OP program leads several adventure trips that last one or more nights while exploring a variety of outdoor activities including, but not limited to, camping, hiking, rock climbing, paddling, and rafting. Our adventure trips are open to all experience levels, although some trips may be more challenging and require certain physical abilities or specialized equipment. *For Full details on our Adventure Trips for the semester please refer to the insert or check our website www.fgcu.edu/campusrec/outdoors

About our Backyard Programs:Did you know that FGCU is adorned with beautiful and thriving wilderness areas right here in our own backyard! The Backyard Programs initiative is designed to educate and recreate in the beautiful wild spots on campus! With numerous hiking trails, conservation areas, and water systems, we hope to get you exploring and seeing a whole new side to your campus and its surrounding . OP FAQWho Can Go? Anyone! FGCU Students will get a discounted rate. All others will pay an additional fee.Accommodations for students with special needs can be provided.

What if I am a beginner?That’s OK! We like newcomers! Our trips are open to every student however some trips may be more challenging. Each trip is labeled as Class 1 or Class 2. • Class1:AllAbilitieswelcome!

• Class2:Activitymaybechallengingorrequirecertainabilities

What’s Included? EVERYTHING! That’s right, we have all the equipment, transportation, food, instruction, and expert leaders to give you a great experience. If you have your own gear, feel free to use it.

What do we eat?Meals are provided during trips as well as snacks. All meal decisions are discussed at the pre-trip meetings. Vegetarian options are available as well.

How do I register and pay?Registration begins the first week of each semester. Students can register in person at the OP Basecamp (Trailer behind Alico Arena). Full payment is required to register. Payments can be made by cash, check, or Eagle Dollars. What about Safety?Our staff a is certified in wilderness first aid and have many years of combined experience.

Transportation?Transportation will be provided by Campus Recreation. Departure times will be discussed at the pre-trip meeting.

CancellationYou must cancel at least one week prior to the program/trip start date in order receive a full refund otherwise a 10% fee will be assessed.FGCU OP reserves the right to cancel any trip or program at any time. Students will receive full refund if a trip is cancelled by Outdoor Pursuits.

CertificationsOpen Water Certification CourseOutdoor Pursuits is offering a SCUBA diving certification course. This is a collaborative effort between Deans Dive Center and Campus Recreation.

PADI NITROX (Enriched Air) Learn to use NITROX and extend bottom times by almost 50%! Open water certification is required before the start of this course.

You Must:- Provide your own mask, snorkel, and fins- Swim proficiently

What’s Included:- Your own books including: manual, dive tables, and log book- Certification card- Use of all SCUBA equipment- Heated pool for your training convenience- 4 Open Water Dives - 2 Lake Dives at the Waterfront

- 2 Ocean Dives in Fort Lauderdale

Team BuildingFGCU Outdoors offers customized low ropes challenge course and

teambuilding sessions.

General Rental Policies and Procedures • Renters must present proper University Identification (Eagle ID) to rent any equipment • The Rental Fee may be paid by cash or check • All boat rentals require a deposit. • Will accept cash, or check • Deposit will be returned upon return of gear and passing of inspection. • Reservations may be made in person or over the phone (239) 590 – 3963 • Rental fees must be paid in full at the time of equipment pick up. • Cancellations must be made during business hours, in person. • Late Return Charges • $1.00 per item per day late • Late days only accrue during Outdoor Pursuits operation hours. • Absolutely NO SMOKING in or around equipment made of fabric (Tents, Sleeping Bags

and Backpacks) • Renter will be assessed a cleaning fee for not adhering to this policy

• A $5.00 cleaning fee will be assessed to equipment returned that is dirty or wet. • Renter must dry out tents, sleeping bags, and backpacks that get wet. • Renter must clean all pots and pans in the mess kit.
