General information
The navigation system will reliablyguide you to your destination withoutthe need to read maps, even if youhave no local knowledge whatsoever. The current traffic situation is takeninto account in the route calculation ifdynamic route guidance is used. Forthis purpose the Infotainment systemreceives traffic announcements in thecurrent reception area via RDS TMC.The navigation system cannot, however, take into account trafficincidents, traffic regulations changedat short notice and hazards orproblems that arise suddenly (e. g.road works).
Caution
The usage of the navigationsystem does not release the driverfrom the responsibility fora correct, vigilant attitude in roadtraffic. The relevant trafficregulations must always befollowed. If a navigation instructioncontradicts traffic regulations, thetraffic regulations always apply.
Functioning of the navigationsystemThe position and movement of thevehicle are detected by the navigationsystem using sensors. The travelleddistance is determined by thevehicle's speedometer signal, turningmovements on bends by a gyrosensor. The position is determined byGPS satellites (Global PositioningSystem).By comparing the sensor signals withthe digital maps on the navigationDVD/CD, it is possible to determinethe position with an accuracy ofapprox. 10 m.
Navigation 37
The system will also work with poorGPS reception, however, theaccuracy of the determination of theposition will be reduced, resulting inincorrect position messages.Poor GPS reception is indicated bythe w symbol in the main display. After the entry of the destinationaddress or point of interest (nearestpetrol station, hotel, etc.) the route iscalculated from the current location tothe destination selected. The route guidance is provided byvoice output and an arrow, as well aswith the aid of a multi-colour mapdisplay or a combination of both.

Dynamic guidance
62 Navigation
With dynamic guidance, the whole ofthe current traffic situation that isreceived by the Infotainment systemvia RDS TMC is incorporated into thecalculation of the route. If there is a traffic hold-up (e.g. trafficjam, road closure) on the plannedroute, you will be informed of this bythe Infotainment system and you candecide whether the system shouldavoid the problem by changing theroute in order to avoid the segmentconcerned or whether it would bemore sensible just to drive throughthe problematic road section. This enables the system to checkcontinuously during guidance on thebasis of the traffic informationwhether there is a better route forroute guidance and a new route issometimes calculated, for example, ifa traffic jam has disappeared.■ Dynamic guidance can be
activated/deactivated in thenavigation Settings menu 3 38.
■ The basis for the possible delaydue to a traffic hold-up andcalculated by the Infotainment
system is data that the systemreceives via the currently selectedRDS TMC station. Fromexperience, the actual delay maydeviate from the calculation.
■ The dynamic guidance only worksif the Infotainment system receivestraffic information via RDS TMC.TMC reception is indicated by theTMC symbol in the main display ofthe Audio function.
Depending on the traffic situation, there are two different types of detour:
1. Extensive detourAs soon as the Infotainment systemhas received information about one ormore traffic hold-ups via RDS TMCthat would mean a relatively longdelay for navigation to yourdestination, the system offers youwell in advance of the hold-up theoption of taking a detour around thetraffic hold-ups.If a relatively long delay on your routeis expected due to traffic hold-ups,a message informing you of thecalculated delay is given.
■ Select Recalculate if you want tomake an extensive detour aroundthe traffic hold-ups.
■ Select Cancel if you do not want tomake a detour.
Even after cancelling, it is possible tohave the route recalculated via theDetour menu item.Traffic hold-ups that are expected toresult in just a short delay aredetoured locally if desired via theDetour function (see below). In the immediate vicinity of a traffichold-up, a warning is issued againand a detour of the immediate trafficholdup (local detour) is offered via theDetour menu item.
2. Local Detour
Navigation 63
With a local detour, all traffic hold-upscan be bypassed, even if they are notviewed as critical by the evaluation ofthe Infotainment system. When you approach the last exitbefore a traffic hold-up, theInfotainment system will inform you tothis effect. In addition to the Detour menu text theM symbol appears on the routeguidance screen. You can now decide whether tocalculate a detour or not.

If there is a voice pause of more thanone second between the individualnumbers, the Infotainment systemassumes that the process of inputtingthe block of numbers has ended andrepeats the block of numbers. In order to make a foreign call, youcan say the word "Plus" (+) in front ofthe number. The plus allows you tomake a call from that country withoutknowing the foreign dialling code forthe country in question. Then say thecountry code. The country code corresponds to theconventional format, i. e. 49 forGermany, 44 for Great Britain, etc.The "0" must be left out of the localnetwork code (dialling code) except inItaly.Example of a dialogue between theuser and voice output to diala telephone number:User: "Call"

"Save"Using this command, you can savea telephone number under a voicetag.Additionally the previously input voicetag in the phone book can beincluded.Voice tags can only be included in thephone book if they are saved in theInfotainment system.
A maximum of 25 voice tags can bestored in the phone book. If 25 voicetags are already stored, the messageis given "The speech memory is full!".Voice tags are dependent on thespeaker, which means that only theperson who has spoken in the voicetag can select it.After three invalid attempts, thespeech recognition system is turnedoff automatically. It can happen that the two namesinput are too different for the speechrecognition system, which thenrejects them. You can then decide ifyou want to input the names again orend the process:■ "Yes": Input the names again.■ "No"/"Cancel": The dialogue is
ended without anything beingsaved.
In order to prevent a cut-off at thebeginning of the recording whennames are being saved, a shortpause should be left after the requestfor an input.
