You Are What You Eat!We live in a remarkably diverse region of California. The geography, agriculture,

neighborhoods, cultures, and cuisines are multiple and varied, making it a dynamic place to live. The food we eat, however, is one of the most important common denominators in helping us understand how to become a healthier community. On November 26 at 7:30 pm, KRCB Channel 22 will air the third program in the Community Health Connections television series. This program focuses on the challenges and opportunities our local neighborhoods face in accessing healthy food. It will follow the patterns and pathways of local food systems, with stories from individual residents that show how the food industry impacts the health of families living in specific neighborhoods. KRCB will be at the Windsor Farmers’ Market on the Town Green from 10am-1pm, 701 McClelland Drive, Sunday, October 6th. Come by and share your ideas and stories with us regarding your neighborhood and your favorite healthy activities.

KRCB’s Open Air is printed monthly by Campus Prints and available by request or online at krcb.org.

From the PRESIDENT KR

CB

Nancy Dobbs, President and CEO

Dear Member,This may seem like a quiet election season but know

that there are many towns and cities in our region holding important elections. And know, too, that KRCB will be there, providing you the information and thoughtful discussion you value as you are making your decisions. We consider this to be one of the most fundamental and important services that KRCB is able to offer you. After all, public broadcasting, funded by the public (including you!), has as a core mission to provide unbiased information with which citizens can become engaged in the running of a democracy.

So, beginning on October 10, we will be airing a half-hour review of the issues and candidates on the ballots of Marin County. Seven towns have city council elections and several also have sales tax issues on the ballot. The major issues that are emerging, and which we discuss, are the Marin General Hospital bond, pension reform, and the Bay Plan. Thanks to Dick Spotswood, Sashi McEntee, and Bruce Robinson for leading the discussion.

Then, on election eve, November 5, tune in for updates on these races and initiatives throughout the evening. Whether a Presidential race, or a very local matter indeed, KRCB is here to provide you the valued information that you can count on.

And, your support makes it possible.

Community MattersAt Community Matters we believe that for

schools to be truly safe, welcoming, and inclusive, as well as high achieving, school districts need to institute policies, programs, and practices that make strengthening and improving school climate one of their highest priorities. In spite of enormous control-oriented investments in security equipment, personnel, and policies, and despite the fact that 49 out of 50 states have passed anti-bullying laws, too many students in too many schools still experience high levels of anxiety and insecurity in diminished learning environments due to the daily impact of bullying, cyberbullying, and harassment. What we know is that bullying interventions must change the conditions in the social environment that permit meanness, intolerance, and indifference to occur. As a primary prevention strategy, Community Matters offers its Safe School Ambassadors program (SSA) that empowers student bystanders to stand up, speak up, and intervene with their peers in bullying-related incidents. Since 2000, this evidence-based model has equipped over 60,000 4-12th grade students in more than 1,200 schools in 32 states with the communication skills to prevent and stop emotional and physical bullying and to improve school climate. For more information about SSA or our Whole School Climate 360 Audit, visit: www.community-matters.org. KRCB North Bay Public Media is proud to partner with Community Matters.
