Presentación

Open Art 20x20 Mini Print Internacional Barcelona, es la primera edición del concurso de grabado con técnicas de estampación tradicional, abre su convocatoria pública e invita a participar a creadores de todas las latitudes. Nace en Barcelona, una ciudad cosmopolita, abierta a las diversas expresiones artísticas, donde conviven tendencias tradicionales y vanguardistas; metrópolis de la producción gráfica de grandes figuras del siglo xx como: Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Tapies y otros, que son referente para los artistas contemporáneos; que en la búsqueda de nuevos lenguajes apuestan por el grabado y su variedad de técnicas como medio de expresión.

En la ciudad Condal, la gráfica ha encontrado su espacio con la presencia de talleres de grabado repartidos por toda la urbe, en la que artistas amantes del oficio siguen creando sus obras con procesos artesanales y en ese camino van incorporando nuevos recursos y conceptos plásticos; todo esto, con la intención de visibilizar y pro-mocionar los diferentes espacios y múltiples eventos que se realizan en torno a la gráfica contemporánea.

La presente convocatoria tiene varios objetivos; por un lado, fomentar la práctica del grabado y sus diferen-tes técnicas; otro objetivo es, reafirmar a la expresión gráfica en el territorio de las artes y finalmente crear una red internacional de artistas que compartan la pasión por esta disciplina artística.

Estamos convencidos que el arte ha sido, es y seguirá siendo una herramienta de liberación del pensamiento

Intoduction

Open Art 20x20 Mini Print International Barcelona, is the first edition of the engraving contest with tradi-tional printmaking techniques. The public open call invites creators from all over the world to participate. The Open Art 20x20 was born in the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona, open to various artistic expressions, where traditional and avant-garde trends coexist; a metropolis of graphic creations of great figures of the twentieth century such as Picasso, Dali, Miro, Tapies among others, who are still influential references to contemporary artists and who, in the search for a new language, were committed to engraving and its variety of techniques as an instrument of expression.

In the city of Barcelona, graphic art has found its place in engraving workshops that are scattered throughout the city. In these workshops, craft lover artists con-tinue to create their artisan works, incorporating new resources and applied concepts, intending to create visibility and promote the different spaces and multiple events that take place around contemporary graphics.

This open call has several objectives; on the one hand, to promote the engraving practice and its different techniques. Another objective is to reaffirm the graphic expression in the territory of the arts, and last but not least, to create an international network of artists who share a passion for this artistic discipline.

We are convinced that art has been, is and will continue to be a tool for the liberation of creative thinking which

Este proyecto se lanza como un desafío en momentos de cambio, sin embargo, nuestro motor es la pasión por el oficio y el enorme deseo de ver al grabado en la escena del arte actual. El llamado está dirigido a los artistas de todos los rincones del mundo a donde pueda llegar esta convocatoria, para que participen con sus obras y con ello esperamos crear vínculos, alianzas y conexiones en las que la sinergia entre arte y creadores sea un medio colaborativo y transformador.

Queremos que Open Art 20x20 Mini Print Internacional Barcelona, sea un espacio de encuentro y diálogo entre artistas y público, en torno a la gráfica contemporánea, un evento que se sume a la oferta cultural y turística de nuestra hermosa ciudad.

brings us closer to our most intimate and reflective being. Despite given the unusual situation that we are experiencing worldwide, we are forced to look for creative and imaginative formulas that invite artists to continue creating and to be part of a community without borders.

This project is launched as a challenge in times of change, however, our driving force is the passion for printmaking and the enormous desire to see engraving in today’s art scene. The call is open to all artists from around the world to participate with their artworks. With Open Art 20x20 we hope to create links, alliances, and connections in which the synergy between art and creators is a collaborative and transformative medium.

We want Open Art 20x20 Mini Print International Barce-lona, to be a space for encounter and dialogue between artists and the public about contemporary graphics, an event that adds to the cultural scene and touristic offer of our beautiful city.

Prólogo


Por las sendas del desafío

Ante todo quisiera agradecer al equipo organizador de este evento por haberme invitado a escribir unas palabras de presentación para el catálogo y así poder compartir con todos vosotros mi visión sobre los con-cursos de grabado.

En la última década, y en particular en los últimos dos años, hemos asistido a la explosión, casi “desmesu-rada”, de concursos y bienales de pequeños formatos convertidos en una moda popular alrededor del mundo.

Las circunstancias, en extremo difíciles por el efecto y las secuelas de una pandemia mundial, nos están convocando a todos a una participación y observación mucho más activa de las redes sociales y, asimismo, nos ha permitido comprender como son de disímiles las bases de participación y cuanto entusiastas, con-tagiosas y CONFIABLES pueden llegar a ser.

De igual forma hemos podido conocer cuáles son las plataformas de internet a través de las cuales se dan a conocer para anunciarlas.

Barcelona es, sin lugar a duda, una ciudad cosmopolita con una rica tradición y pasión por el grabado, como lo son otras ciudades de Europa, Asia o América.

El grabado, como fenómeno del arte contemporáneo, está transitando por nuevos ciclos experimentales en los cuales la confrontación entre lenguajes crea-tivos es muy diversa; de modo que hacer un llamado INTERNACIONAL para este tipo de evento implica, in-dudablemente, un increíble esfuerzo por parte de los

On the paths of challenge

First of all, I would like to thank the organizing team of this event for having invited me to write a few words of introduction for the catalogue and thus be able to share with all of you my vision of the printmaking contests.

In the last decade, and in particular in the last two years, we have witnessed the explosion, almost “inordinate”, of contests and biennials of small formats that have become very popular around the world.

Circumstances, extremely difficult due to the impact and consequences of a global pandemic, are calling us all to a much more active participation and observa-tion of social networks and also, they have allowed us to understand how dissimilar the participation rules are and how enthusiastic, contagious and RELIABLE they can be.

In the same way, we have been able to know what are the internet platforms through which they are made to advertise them.

Barcelona is, without a doubt, a cosmopolitan city with a rich tradition and passion for engraving, as are other cities in Europe, Asia or America.

Printmaking, as a phenomenon of contemporary art, is passing through new experimental cycles in which the confrontation between creative languages is very diverse; so, making an INTERNATIONAL call for this type of event undoubtedly implies an incredible effort by the organizers and sponsors to encourage artists to create and attract a public audience that values DIVERSITY.

The participation and interaction with the experiences of other similar events, as well as the communica-tion with the artists, will be unconditionally the best thermometer to measure the social projection and the success that this first edition of OPEN ART 20 x 20 MINIPRINT BARCELONA 2021 has sown: based on the quality of the selected works and the physical visibility of the means of promotion and visual communication.

La Maldita Estampa

El Taller-Galería, La Maldita Estampa es un espacio de producción, investigación, formación y difusión de Gráfica Contemporánea, fundado en 2017; está au-togestionado por artistas, creado para dar soporte a otros artistas.

Porque conocemos la importancia de educar en torno a la gráfica y sus procesos creativos y la necesidad de crear espacios de producción alternativos, nuestro empeño es que la gráfica llegue a un mayor público, que deje de ser la gran desconocida y se le dé la im-portancia que otras disciplinas artísticas tienen.

Desde nuestro Taller, centro de producción, llevamos a cabo un trabajo de divulgación, en él realizamos for-mación continua con Workshop especializados en el grabado y sus diferentes técnicas: grabado en hueco y relieve, litografía, serigrafía, fotograbado, mokulito, técnicas aditivas, entre otras; está dirigido a todo tipo de público.

Compartimos el taller con otros artistas, estudiantes y aficionados, apostamos por el arte colaborativo, fa-cilitamos espacios de creación en los que cada uno de los artistas aporta sus conocimientos, experiencias y procesos de creación. Sabemos que en estos espacios se establecen vínculos, intercambios y puntos de unión que enriquecen nuestra labor creativa.

Nuestra Galería, es un espacio abierto a recibir ideas nuevas, proyectos expositivos frescos y dinámicos, trabajamos codo a codo para sacar adelante los pro-yectos y fomentamos la colaboración entre todos. Apoyamos a los artistas nacionales e internacionales, al arte joven y emergente.

Realizamos exposiciones en torno a gráfica, pintura, fo-tografía, escultura, ilustración y más. Éstas se realizan

mensualmente, cada una de ellas aportan su propio carácter e identidad; de esta forma dinamizamos el espacio acogiendo a los visitantes, abriendo un diá-logo entre el artista y el público; por tanto, es lugar de encuentro y colaboración.

Desde nuestra trinchera seguimos gestando ideas, generando proyectos y colaboraciones, creando even-tos, charlas, coloquios, presentaciones de libros, fe-rias, mercadillos; porque estamos en un territorio que apuesta por el arte y la cultura.

Contribuimos para que la Gráfica y sus procesos de creación sigan vigentes y estén al alcance de todos, cumpliendo así con uno de los fundamentos básicos del grabado: la Democratización del Arte.

La Maldita Estampa

The Print Studio & Gallery, La Maldita Estampa is a space for production, research, training, and dissemi-nation of Contemporary Graphics. The studio, founded in 2017; is self-managed by artists, created to support other artists.

Because we recognize the importance of the education of graphics and its creative processes and the need to create alternative production spaces, our commitment is that graphic arts reach a wider audience, that stop being the great unknown and to be given the impor-tance that other artistic disciplines have.

From our Studio, production center, we carry out a dissemination work, we offer continuous training with specialized workshops in engraving and its different techniques: hollow and relief engraving, silk-screen, lithography, photoengraving, mokulito, collagraphy, among others; It is aimed at all types of audiences.

We share the workshop with other artists, students and amateurs, we are committed to collaborative art, and we provide creative spaces where each artist contrib-utes with their knowledge, experiences and creative processes. We know that in these spaces, connections, exchanges and networking points are established that enrich our creative work.

Our Gallery is an open space to receive new ideas, fresh and dynamic exhibition projects, we work side by side to move projects forward and encourage collaboration between all. We support national and international artists, young and emerging art.

We hold exhibitions of graphic arts, painting, photog-raphy, sculpture, illustration and more. These are held monthly, each one of them contributes its own charac-ter and identity; In this way, we make the space more

dynamic by welcoming visitors, opening a dialogue between the artist and the public; therefore, it is a place for encounter and collaboration. From our trench we continue to develop ideas, generating projects and collaborations, creating events, talks, colloquiums, book presentations, fairs, markets; because we are in a territory committed to art and culture.

We devote ourselves to Graphic Arts and its creative processes so it remains relevant and accessible to everyone, thus fulfilling one of the basic foundations of engraving: the Democratization of Art.
