We work toward advancing opportunities for all women by providing a forum to discuss relevant issues in the Boalt community. Leadership, education, activism, diversity, and solidarity provide the foundation for our organization. Consistent with out mission, BHWA hosts Women in Oral Advocacy each year to promote further discussion about women in the legal profession and what it means to be a female advocate. We hope to explore topics that will help our attendees develop as advocates in a variety of settings. We are deeply grateful to our phenomenal panelists for your time and guidance. Bovarnick Deputy Attorney General with the California Attorney General’s Office Barbara Dickinson graduated from The George Washington University and Hastings College of the Law. Ms. Dickinson is currently employed by the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office where she has worked as an attorney since 1989. During her tenure at the Public Defender’s Office, Ms. Dickinson has tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases before juries. She also served on the in-house training team conducting trainings on various evidentiary and criminal practice issues. Ms. Dickinson has also organized and conducted trainings on alternative dispute resolution for attorneys and judges from other countries including Israel, India, Egypt and Turkey. In addition to her Victoria F. Maroulis is Managing Partner of the Silicon Valley Office and a Co-Chair of the firm’s Life Science Practice. Mrs. Maroulis’ practice primarily focuses on intellectual property litigation. She has litigated and provided counseling for companies on a broad range of patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secrets matters in the fields of telecommunications, software, hardware, semiconductors, medical devices and biotechnology for clients such as Samsung, General Electric, Cisco, and Genentech. Victoria regularly writes and lectures on IP matters and has taught trial practice at Stanford Law School and the in-house Quinn Emanuel program. In the past several years, she has been selected as one Leslie Spencer, co-chair of the firm’s diversity committee, is a registered patent attorney handling intellectual property litigation matters in federal district court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Ms. Spencer works with clients on complex patent litigation involving a range of technologies, including computer software, electronic devices, secure transactions, financial technology (“FinTech”), digital media, healthcare information technology and consumer products. Subsequently, Ms. Bovarnick spent seven years in the False Claims Section, investigating and litigating complex financial cases resulting in multimillion dollar recoveries for the State. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Ms. Bovarnick was a civil law and motion research attorney with Alameda County Superior Court. She also served as a court appointed discovery referee, and began her career representing indigent, elderly, and primarily Spanish-speaking clients for Mission Community Legal Defense, a public interest law office in San Francisco. In her free time, Ms. Bovarnick volunteers The Hon. Delia Trevino was appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court on November 17, 2015. Judge Trevino attended Yale University and then UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). Prior to her appointment, Judge Trevino worked as a Deputy District Attorney in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office where she held a variety of assignments prosecuting misdemeanor and felony offenses. Throughout her career, she was assigned to several specialty teams for vertical prosecution of domestic violence, child sexual assault, and child abduction cases. Ms. Wong, a partner in Goodwin’s Technology Companies & Life Sciences Group, focuses her practice primarily on the life sciences sector. Ms. Wong’s representation of start-up and later-stage companies and their investors spans their entire corporate life-cycle, including pre-incorporation planning, general corporate representation and counseling, venture capital financings, public offerings, SEC compliance, and mergers and acquisitions. She also has substantial experience advising on technology transfer, licensing, partnering, distribution and other commercial agreements. She is a member of the Associate Training Committee for Goodwin’s Technology Companies & Life Sciences Group and a member of the firm’s Associate Advisor Network. Ms. Wong received her J.D., order of the Coif, from Berkeley Law School in 2002, and her B.A. from Yale University in 1999.

The Hon. Delia Trevino was appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court on November 17, 2015. Judge Trevino attended Yale University and then UC Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). Prior to her appointment, Judge Trevino worked as a Deputy District Attorney in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office where she held a variety of assignments prosecuting misdemeanor and felony offenses. Throughout her career, she was assigned to several specialty teams for vertical prosecution of domestic violence, child sexual assault, and child abduction cases. As an attorney, Judge Trevino served on the boards of East Bay La Raza Lawyer’s Association and the Alameda County Bar Association. Over the years, Judge Trevino has engaged at-risk youth in various outreach programs and by coaching mock trials for elementary and high school students. Immediately following her appointment, Judge Trevino was assigned to a criminal court at the Wiley Manual Courthouse handling felony preliminary hearings and misdemeanor trials. Earlier this year, she was assigned to family court in Department 504 at the Hayward Hall of Justice.

Ms. Spencer received her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1998, and her B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1996.

Lucinda Sikes Lecturer in Residence Berkeley Law First Year Skills Program

Lucinda Sikes came to Boalt after nine years as a public interest attorney in Washington, D.C. As an attorney for the Public Citizen Litigation Group, she litigated before the federal and state courts to open government records and protect consumers, including servicing as counsel of record in a Federal Arbitration Act pre-emption case before the U.S. Supreme Court [Doctors Associates v. Cararotto, 517 U.S. 1652 (1996)]. She also testified before Congress and participated in rulemaking proceedings on a variety of consumer protection issues as a staff attorney with the U.S. Public Interest Research Group. Ms. Sikes’s publications include “FDA’s Consideration of Codex Alimentarius Standards in Light of International Trade Agreements” in the Food and Drug Law Journal (1998). Ms. Sikes received her J.D. from Harvard University and holds an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley.

Adetunji Olude is an Attorney with the Center for Judicial Education and Research (CJER) where she focuses on its appellate practice. CJER is the educational arm of the state judicial system, a division of the Judicial Council of California. Before coming to CJER, Ms. Olude worked at plaintiff-side employment law firm, Bryan Schwartz Law. While there, Ms. Olude litigated individual and class/collective actions in employment discrimiantion, whistleblower retaliation, and wage and hour. Md. Olude also practiced consumer rights law at the Housing and Economic Rights Advocates. In 2015 and 2016, Ms. Olude was selected as “Rising Star” by the Super Lawyers publication. In 2015, Ms. Olude was also ranked as of the Top Women Attorneys in Northern California in San Francisco Magazine. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and Georgetown University Law Center and is admitted to the California State Bar, U.S. District Courts and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
