Summary

• Network convergence will lead to an increased importance of services• The NGN is the last chance for telcos to position themselves right

within the emerging multimedia services world• Telcos need to set up partnerships to stimulate reuse of „telco

enablers“ within an emerging web-based converged services world• The FOKUS Open SOA telco playground addresses the challenges of

IMS service creation, provision and management in face of emerging SOA and Web 2.0 services

• Web 2.0 killer applications, such as Facebook, can be easily extended by IMS enablers, if the enablers are exposed in the right way

Niklas Blum is the Deputy Director of the Next Generation Network division at the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS, which also provides the national NGN/IMS test and development centre in Germany.His expertise is based on service oriented architectures, web-based services and technologies, distributed communication systems, advanced middleware technologies, VoIP and the IP-Multimedia Subsystem.Furthermore he is a consultant of Direct Link Consult e.V., a FOKUS Consulting spin-off focusing on professional services, strategic studies and technology coaching.He is a frequent speaker at conferences giving speeches and full-day tutorials related to his research topics.
