By Jenna Litteral

WHAT IS OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE?

Open Source Software (OSS) is a computer

software available with a source code.

Source code is normally reserved for copyright

holders.

Permits users to study, change, improve and at

times also to distribute the software.

ADVANTAGES TO OPEN SOURCE

Large number of sources for support.

A lot of people have access to the

source code.

Free to all users.

Stability.

DISADVANTAGES TO OPEN SOURCE

Not all OSS initiatives have been successful.

Difficult to design a commercially sound

business model around the open source

paradigm.

Only technical requirements may be

satisfied.

WHERE CAN YOU GET IT?

Open source software (OSS) is

available at many different places.

http://sourceforge.net/ is a great

place to get different types of OSS.
