    PUNCTURE

-with a puncture wound, the skin is pierced with asharp, pointed object. This type of open wound isusually deep, narrow wounds in the skin andunderlying organs.

External bleeding is usually minor, but thepuncturing object may penetrate deeply into thebody and this damage organs and soft tissues andsevere internal bleeding.

Tetanus organisms and other harmful bacteria thatgrows rapidly deep within body tissues by apenetrating object

    ABRASIONS

-is a superficial scraping of the skin .The top layerof the skin (epidermis) is removed, with little or noblood loss at all.

However, there is a danger of contamination andinfection, because of dirt and bacteria may havebeen ground into the broken tissues.

Abrasions tend to be painful since the nerveendings are affected also since it is also abraded

    along the skin

    LACERATION

edges of the wound are irregular and jagged. Witha laceration, there is tearing and breaking of thetissues. Bleeding from a laceration may be rapidand extensive

    AVULSION

-is a forcible tearing or partial tearing away oftissues. This type of wound can bleed heavily.

If a body part (a finger, tooth or toe, for example)has been torn away in an accident,

it should always be sent along with the victim to the

hospital (placed on moistened gauze and cooled),since there is a possibility that it can be reattached

    INCISION

-tend to have smooth edges and resemble asurgical cut. The amount of bleeding depends onthe depth, location and size of the wound

    TYPES OF CLOSED WOUND

    A) Contusions

-more commonly known as bruises, caused by ablunt force trauma that damage tissue under theskin.

    B) Hematomas

-also called a blood tumor, caused by damage to ablood vessel that in turn causes blood to collectunder the skin.

    C) Crush injury

-caused by a great or extreme amount of forceapplied over a long period of time.
