What?

A practical workshop A practical workshop about building software applications that

incorporate the Open Electronic Health Record

Data Model.

Why?

Clinical data are complex Clinical data are complex and making them truly computable requires a departure from typical approaches. openEHR specifies a Data Management &

Modelling System as well Modelling System as well as a Query Language to do exactly that.

Featuring as part of the Digital Health Assembly: Open Innovation Conference, this workshop will present an overview of the ‘openEHR’ open specification (openehr.org) and show how openEHR tools, methods and data platform can underpin an agile, open standards-based healthcare information platform. openEHR is an open specification with a commercial-friendly license. It places clinicians directly in control of creating the information models needed to support patient care, allowing developers to quickly incorporate these models into applications which can then be queried regardless of vendor or technology stack.

Using the HANDI Open Platform Demonstrator (handi-hopd.org), attendees will be taken through practical Using the HANDI Open Platform Demonstrator (handi-hopd.org), attendees will be taken through practical examples of building vendor-neutral clinical information models. The direct use of these information models and vendor-neutral querying will then be demonstrated with some simple javascript examples, focusing on front-line clinical and registry apps.

The relationship of openEHR to other emerging agile e-Health specifications such as HL7 FHIR and The relationship of openEHR to other emerging agile e-Health specifications such as HL7 FHIR and SMARTPlatforms will also be explored. Some familiarity with openEHR and entry-level Javascript may be helpful but is not a pre-requisite. The workshop will take a broad view of the challenges of standards-based eHealth and clinical, management and technical attendees are all equally welcome.
