Goal 1: Increasing student success and academic excellence through student-centered instruction, student-centered support services, and dynamic technologies.

Through the development of the Educational Master Plan and participation in Achieving the Dream, ELAC has sought to identify strategies to improve student success.

learning management systems to enhance student access for non-traditional students and accelerate progress for on-campus students• Identify and promote best practices in dynamic and interactive

online learning

preparation

• Strengthen college response to struggling students• Evaluate dismissal procedures• Develop opportunities for students to expand their educational

experience at ELAC through non-classroom activities such as scientific lectures, demonstrations, and cultural events

• Enhance advisement to students about financing a college education, including understanding university financial aid and scholarships

BASIC SKILLS IMPROVEMENT

• Increase the proportion of students who progress through the developmental math and English sequences {ATD}• Use of noncredit• Compression and acceleration models• Assistance in grade norming processes• Encouraging students master course material (better than a “C”)

to improve success in subsequent courses• Developing methods to encourage students to progress through

the sequences through successive semesters• Utilize support services such as specialized tutoring, automated

diagnostics, and remediated services

• Create programs to prevent “cold assessment” and prepare students to take placement exams {ATD}

process to specifically address cultural concerns of students and their families

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

• The Educational Master Plan was developed to be broad in context• The Plan allows each department to develop their

own actions that will help the college achieve its objectives and goals

Ensure on-campus student engagement to increase academic achievement.

Review and restructure existing college mentor programs to serve a greater number of both high-achieving and struggling students.
