2 Safety instructions

Damages to the drum heaters must be repaired immediately, taking the required safety regulations into consideration.

There is a risk that unloaded drum heaters with opened covers fall over, because their centre of gravity is shifted.

Insertion of non-permitted media and containers (e.g. plastic containers), which might be damaged within the selected temperature range, is forbidden. The containers must be temperature-resistant.

The medium to be heated may only be heated to a level where there is no risk of ignition, explosion or any other chemical reactions. Detailed information is contained in the safety data sheets of the appropriate medium, and these sheets must be read and understood.

The drum heater may only be cleaned after it has cooled down.

The inside surfaces of the drum heater are hot during operation and must therefore not to touched. The outside surfaces of the drum heater may also become hot after long periods of operation. There is a risk of injury from hot surfaces.

Special safety instructions are contained in the following chapters.

3 Intended use The drum heater is used to heat up steel drums with drum diameters up to a maximum of 610 mm. The media and containers must be temperature-resistant. The temperature range at which they may be used is 50-300°C.

The medium to be heated may only be heated to a level where there is no risk of ignition, explosion or any other chemical reactions. Detailed information is contained in the safety data sheets of the appropriate medium, and these sheets must be read and understood.

Heating up of non-permitted medium and containers, which might be damaged within the selected temperature range, is forbidden. The containers must be temperature-resistant.

Drums may only be placed into or removed from the drum heater using suitable equipment (e.g. drum grippers).

4 Product description There are three versions of the drum heater: FH-K5.5, FH-M4.0 and FH-K1.5. They each have different heating systems. The drum heater is comprised of a jacket, a jacket with base and a cover. Model FH-M4.0 is the only drum heater not fitted with a base. In the FH-K5.5, there is a 2 kW jacket heating in the jacket and also in the jacket with base. Additionally, a base heater of 1.5 kW is used in the base. In contrast, the FH-K1.5 drum heater is only fitted with the 1.5 kW base heater. There are no heaters in the jacket. There is no base heater in the FH-M4.0 drum heater. This is only fitted with the 2 kW jacket heating in the jacket and in the jacket with base. The jacket and the jacket with base can be swiveled open. The drum is placed onto the jacket with base. Because model FH-M4.0 is not fitted with a base, a drum can be moved into it using drum rollers. The drum heater can also be transported as a complete unit, even when the drum is full, and is therefore not tied to one location. The cover is fitted with grips and hinges and is swiveled out for loading. The steering castors with locking device and the grips on the outer jacket facilitate easy handling. Digital temperature controllers are used to monitor and control heating, as well as mechanical safety thermostats.
