3 Functions and featuresPressure Equipment Directive (PED): The units comply with section 3, article (3) of the Directive 97/23/EC and must be designed and manufactured for non-super-heated liquids of group 1 fluids in accordance with the sound engineering practiceThe unit monitors liquid mediaThe unit detects the 3 process categories volumetric flow quantity, consumed quantity and medium temperatureApplication areaConductive liquids with the following properties:• Conductivity:≥20µS/cm• Viscosity: < 70 mm2/s at 40°C
4 Function4.1 Measuring principle for volumetric flow monitoringThe magnetic-inductive measuring principle means that a magnetic field is gener-ated in the measuring pipe via current-carrying coils When a conductive medium flows through the measuring pipe, the ions therein are diverted perpendicularly to the magnetic field Positive and negative charge carriers flow in opposite direc-tions The voltage induced is measured by two electrodes that are in contact with the medium This signal voltage is directly proportional to the average flow veloc-ity The volumetric flow quantity is derived from the internal pipe diameter

Both electrodes must be wetted by the medium Otherwise the signal [SEnS] for empty pipe is provided, if empty pipe detection is enabled
4.2 Processing of the measured signalsThe unit displays the current process valuesIt generates 2 output signals according to the parameter setting
OUT1/IO-Link: Parameter setting - Analogue signal for volumetric flow quantity (→10.3) - Communication interface (→10.6.5)
OUT2: Parameter setting - Analogue signal for temperature (→10.4)
4.3 Flow rate measurementAn analogue signal which is proportional to the volumetric flow (420 mA) is pro-vided on output 1 in case of medium flow in the measuring pipe (On the analogue functions→4.7)In addition to the flow velocity, the unit also detects the flow direction An arrow on the unit indicates the positive flow direction Theflowdirectioncanbeinversed(→10.5.4).
► Use the supplied label to mark the changed flow direction
Direction of flow corresponds to "flow direction" > process value and display positiveDirection of flow against "flow direction" > process value and display negative
Only positive process values are processed for the signal output
4.4 Consumed quantity meterThe unit has an internal mass flow meter which continuously totals the volumetric flow quantity The total corresponds to the current consumed quantity• The quantity meter takes account of the flow direction for totalisation:
![Page 8: Operating instructions Magnetic-inductive flow …8 2 Main menu, Extended functions 16 8 3 Basic ... The magnetic-inductive measuring principle means that a magnetic field is gener-ated](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022043009/5f9d41b49959d25f28063c37/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
8
- Flow according to the marked flow direction (arrow "flow direction"): meter adds
- Flow against the marked flow direction: meter subtractsThe meter saves the totalled consumed quantity every 10 minutes After a power failure this value is available as the current meter reading So the possible data loss can be maximum 10 minutesThe current meter reading can be evaluated via an external parameter setting software(→10.6.5ActivatingtheIO-Linkcommunicationinterface).
4.5 Temperature monitoringAn analogue signal (420 mA) can be provided on output 2 for temperature moni-toring.Ontheanaloguefunctions→4.7).
4.6 Empty pipe detectionTheunitdetectswhenthetwoelectrodesarenotwettedbythemedium(→4.1Measuring principle for volumetric flow monitoring) The empty pipe detection can beactivatedordeactivated(→10.5.7).Ifitisactiveandthepipeisempty,theunitreacts as follows:
