1.0 Purpose

This procedure should be used for both the installation of the shipping gauge magnet at Fermilab (FNAL) and Jefferson LAB (JLAB) and the removal of the shipping gauge magnet at SLAC.

This procedure does NOT cover the steps for cleanroom assembly of the end beam pipe manifold (without the magnet or electronics unit), or installation of end beam pipe manifold (without the magnet or electronics unit) on the cryomodules.

3.0 Outside Cleanroom

3.1. Remove electronics

a. Loosen set screw on side of electronics using 1.5mm Allen wrench.b. Remove electronics by slowly sliding out the package.

NOTE: DO NOT TWIST OR ROTATE WHILE REMOVING.

3.2. Remove magnet

a. Loosen bolt on bottom of magnet using a 7mm wrench.NOTE: Using the box end of the wrench makes loosening easier. Use a non-magnetic wrench if possible.

3.3. Store magnet and electronics in a safe location, away from any Cryomodule components.

3.4. Demagnetize gauge body and hardware in the kit.

3.5. Demagnetize any tools used and/or keep the tools isolated.

NOTE: At this point, cleanroom assembly of the end beam pipe manifold (without the magnet or electronics unit) is performed. The installation of the end beam pipe manifold (without the magnet or electronics unit) on the cryomodules occurs next. The steps for these two activities are not covered in this procedure.

4.0 Install at FNAL/JLAB on Cryomodule post cleanroom procedures

4.1. Place temporary magnetic shielding on the neck of the manifold, between the gate valve and shipping

gauges.

4.2. Install magnet

a. Hold magnet with bolt towards the flange of the gauge body.b. Slide the magnet down. If the hold-down piece gets stuck while sliding the magnet in place,

loosen the bolt more (but do not remove the bolt), place the 1.5 mm Allen wrench between the bolt and piece and push as necessary.

c. Tighten bolt to secure magnet.

4.3. Install electronics

a. Line up the pin sticking out of the gauge body with the recess in electronics.

b. Slide the electronics on.

c. Screw in the set screw and secure the electronics.

4.4. Install steel magnetic shield.

a. Place the two halves of the steel magnetic shield around the gauge.

b. Place two hose clamps, one towards the bottom and one towards the top of the steel shield, and screw down to secure the shield.

4.5. Install the second steel magnetic shield and remove the temporary magnetic shield.

5.0 Removal at SLAC

5.1. Place a temporary magnetic shielding on the neck of the manifold, between the gate valve and shipping

gauges.

5.2. Remove steel magnetic shield.

a. Loosen and remove the two hose clamps.
