Operation: Border Patrol KOREA OPERATIONS

Mission Overview

Situation Brief

The conflict with the DPRK is in its 3rd week and the strategy has shifted from strikes on air fields and command and control to supporting ground forces. US Marines are preparing a large scale invasion in the coming days. MARFORK has requested support as their troops start their march North, starting with taking out long range artillery and armor units along the DMZ and 30 miles into North Korea. PACOM has committed us to two kill boxes to the West and Center of the DMZ. We will have to AFACs on station for 1hr with CAS flights entering the airspace in 30min windows.

Our objective will be to destroy all FROG7 units in our assigned killboxes along with any artillery units along the MSRs. Most of the DPRK forces located on the actual DMZ have retreated, however a few units still remain at Army bases and/or HART sites. Friendly forces near the DMZ have received intermittent fire from some of the guns that were left behind at these HART sites, so in addition to hunting artillery and armor along the MSRs, you are to ensure no guns are left behind that can be used by the enemy. In your airspace you’ll have company from Marine Cobras and AC-130 gunships with A-10s coming in after SEAD gives the all clear. Most of the DRPK air force is out of the fight, but be vigilant nevertheless.

CONNECTION – PLANNING INFO

• In-Game time will match real world time in GMT. They will be sync’d starting at 1800 GMT.

• Dedicated server will go live at 1830 GMT for clients to join whenever they want. The server will start at 1830 GMT and not stop, so be on time and give yourself sufficient time to brief.

• Flights are created but you can change your takeoff time if needed (be careful)

• Post your COMMS and YARDSTICK in the forum thread for this operation to reserve a frequency/channel, in addition to posting your loadout prior to 17:30 GMT on Saturday.

• Only requirement is that you are on the correct UHF for the airspace you are in. INI file with steerpoint lines marking the airspace will be available.

• Flight Leads can carry whatever loadout they like – tank or not tank – etc… Plan your own mission from start to finish. Only requirement is that you check in the either FAC prior to entering his killbox (more info in following slides).

• FACs will be on station for at least 1hr starting at 19:15 GMT. If you need them to stay longer, you may request.

• Back out of mission whenever you like – post debrief with screenshot of debrief file in our forum.

HIGH LEVEL MISSION FLOW

FLYING THE MISSION – ROE – Contacting the FAC

• No restrictions on departures or approaches – use the tower frequency (which matches the airspace UHF assignments).

• 2 x SEAD flights will depart 2mins after the FACs (they are in their own packages) and will fly to a killbox each to clear the area of surface threats while the FACs look for targets.

• The CAS flights will take off in pairs (2 ships per flight / 4 total per pair). These flights are in the same package as their assigned FAC and can tank enroute or not tank at all. The next CAS pair departs 10 minutes after the first pair so the FAC has sufficient time to get the first pairs onto their targets.

• Enter through the Push Point JARHEAD and fly to your assigned contact point.

• The contact points are 15 hold positions where you can orbit while speaking to the FAC.

• You will contact the FAC at your assigned Contact Point, authenticate, give him your callsign and package number so he knows your loadout, and then he will give you information about potential targets, threats, location of friendlies, etc… The FAC will pass you a markpoint or two for your targets and then you will have the option to have him talk you onto target and call your hits (TYPE 2 Control) or give you clearance to engage on your own (TYPE 3 control). You may request which type of control you would like. Station time is 30 mins or until you are out of ordnance.

FLYING THE MISSION – ROE – Contacting the FAC CONT’D

• If you contact the FAC and he is already communicating with another flight, he may ask you to hold. If you have fuel constraints, please let him know.

• If you destroy your assigned targets and still have ordnance, you may request additional targets. Do not engage targets that you were not cleared onto as they may be assigned to another flight.

• Once you are DAKOTA, you can check out with the FAC and depart the killbox and head back through JARHEAD to RTB. If you need to refuel mid-mission and still have weapons, let the FAC know and he will check you out and look for targets for when you return.

• Radar guided SAMs should not be a factor in the killboxes (with the exception of SHORADs such as SA-8, SA-13, SA-15, SKYGUARD, etc…) - but they are not expected to be mission critical.

• The SEAD flights also need to check in with the FAC. He may need them later and request they save some ordnance in case any of the CAS flights find surface threats that need to be removed.

• Enemy aircraft should be minimal, however, radar coverage by CAS flights is expected to protect themselves.

• This is your mission to plan and fly, so as long as you fly within the requirements listed in this briefing, you are free to perform the mission however you like.
