    3. Install fuel cap and wait for any spilled fuel to evaporate.

CAUTION! Alcohol-blended fuels (called gasohol, ethanol ormethanol) can attract moisture, which leadsto separation andformation of acids during storage. Acidic gas can damage thefuel system of an enginewhile in storage.

To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be treatedwith a fuel preserveror emptied before storage of 30 days orlonger. If adding a fuel preserver, fill the fuel tank with freshfuel. If only partially filled, air in the tank will promote fueldeterioration during storage. If fuel preserver is not used, drain the fuel tank, start the engine and let it run until the fuellines and carburetor are empty. Usefresh fuel next season.SeeStorage for additional information.

NEVERuse engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fueltank as permanent damage may occur.

  • HighAltitude

At altitudes over 5,000 feet (1524 meters), a minimum85 octane / 85 AKI (89 RON)gasoline is acceptable.Toremain emissions compliant, high altitude adjustment isrequired. Operation without this adjustment will causedecreasedperformance, increasedfuel consumption, andincreased emissions. Seea qualified Sears dealer for highaltitude adjustment information. Operation of the engineataltitudes below 2,500 feet (762 meters) with the high altitudekit is not recommended.

    FreshStart® Fuel Cap

The FreshStart® fuel cap (A) is designed to hold acartridge (B) which contains fuel preserver. Adding fuelpreserver helps keep fuel fresh and carburetors clean foreasier starting all season long. The FreshStart® fuel cap, ifequipped with a cartridge, automatically drips concentratedfuel preserver into your fuel tank so you don't have to add ityourself.

NOTICE FreshStart® fuel preservercartridge is availableasan optional accessory, retail item 7133386. It is not includedwith the pressurewasher. Contact the original equipmentmanufacturer, retailer,or dealer to obtain a cartridge designedfor the FreshStart® fuel cap installed on this engine.

  • ENGINETECHNICALiNFORMATiONThis is a single cylinder, overhead valve (OHV), air cooledengine, it is a low emissions engine.

In the State of California, Model 120000 engines are certifiedby the California Air Resources Boardto meet emissionsstandards for 125 hours. Such certification does not grantthe purchaser, owner or operator of this engine anyadditional warranties with respect to the performance oroperational life of this engine. The engine is warranted solelyaccording to the product and emissions warranties statedelsewhere in this manual.

Power RatingsThe gross power rating for individual gas engine models islabeled in accordancewith SAE(Society of AutomotiveEngineers) code J1940 (Small Engine Power & TorqueRating Procedure), and rating performance has beenobtained and corrected in accordancewith SAEJ1995(Revision 2002-05). Torque values are derived at 3060 RPM;horsepower values are derived at 3600 RPM. Actual grossengine power will be lower and is affected by, among otherthings, ambient operating conditions and engine-to-enginevariability. Given both the wide array of products on whichengines are placed andthe variety of environmental issuesapplicable to operating the equipment, the gas engine will notdevelop the rated gross power when used in a given piece ofpower equipment (actual "on-site" or net power). Thisdifference is due to a variety of factors including, but notlimited to, accessories (air cleaner, exhaust, charging, cooling, carburetor, fuel pump, etc.), application limitations, ambient operating conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude), and engine-to-engine variability. Duetomanufacturing and capacity limitations, Briggs & Strattonmay substitute an engine of higher rated power for thisSeries engine.

This pressurewasher is rated in accordanceto the PressureWasher Manufacturers Association (PWMA) standard PW101(Testing and Rating Performance of PressureWashers).

your unit inoperable.• Freezedamage is not covered under warranty.

To protectthe unit from freezing temperatures:1. Follow steps 1-4 in the previous section AfterEach Use.

    2. Use pump saver, availableat Sears retail item 7174403,to treat pump. This minimizes freezedamage andlubricates pistons and seals.

    3. If pump saver is not available, connect a 3-foot sectionof garden hose to water inlet adapter. PourRV-antifreeze (antifreeze without alcohol) into hose. Pullrecoil handletwice. Disconnect 3-foot hose.

    4. Store unit in a clean,dry area.

LONGTERIViSTORAGEIf you do not plan to use the pressure washer for more than30 days, you must preparethe engine and pump for longterm storage.

It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming inessential fuel system parts such as the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel hose or tank during storage. Also, experienceindicatesthat alcohol-blended fuels (called gasohol, ethanol ormethanol) can attract moisture, which leadsto separationand formation of acids during storage. Acidic gas candamage the fuel system of an enginewhile in storage.

    Protect Fuel System

    Fuel Additive:

Fuel can becomestale when stored over 30 days. Stale fuelcauses acid and gum deposits to form in the fuel system oron essential carburetor parts. To keep fuel fresh, use Briggs& Stratton FRESHSTART® fuel stabilizer, available as aliquid additive or a drip concentrate cartridge.

There is no needto drain gasoline from the engine if a fuelstabilizer is added according to instructions. Run the enginefor 2 minutes to circulate the stabilizer throughout the fuelsystem. The engine andfuel can then be stored up to24 months.

If gasoline in the engine has not beentreated with a fuelstabilizer, it must be drained into an approved container. Runthe engine until it stops from lack of fuel. The use of a fuelstabilizer in the storage container is recommended tomaintain freshness.

While engine is still warm, drain oil from crankcase. Refillwith recommended grade. See ChangingEngine Oil.

Protect PumpTo protect the pump from damage caused by mineraldeposits or freezing, use PumpSaver, item 7174403, to treatpump. This prevents freeze damageand lubricates pistonsand seals.

NOTICE PumpSaver is available as an optional accessory, itis not included with the pressure washer. Contactyour localSearsservice center to purchase PumpSaver.

NOTICE You must protect your unit from freezingtemperatures.

    • Failureto do so will permanently damage your pump and renderyour unit inoperable.

    • Freezedamage is not covered under warranty.

To use PumpSaver, make sure the pressurewasher is turnedoff and disconnected from supply water. Readand follow allinstructions and warnings given on the PumpSavercontainer.

LookFor ReJevantEmissionsDurability Periodand AirIndex Information OnYour EngineEmissionsLabeJ

Enginesthat are certified to meet the California Air ResourcesBoard (CARB)Emissions Standard must display informationregarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. The engine manufacturer makes this information availabletothe consumer on emissions labels. The engine emissionslabelwill indicate certification information.

The Emissions Durability Perioddescribes the number ofhours of actual running time for which the engine is certifiedto be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance inaccordance with the Operating & Maintenance Instructions. The following categories are used:

Moderate: Engine is certified to be emissions compliant for125 hours of actual engine running time.

Intermediate: Engineis certified to be emissions compliantfor 250 hours of actual engine running time.

Extended: Engineis certified to be emissions compliant for500 hours of actual engine running time.

For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions DurabilityPeriod of an enginewith an intermediate rating wouldequate to 10 to 12 years.

Small off-road engines are certified to meet the United StatesEnvironmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase2emissions standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, theEmissions Compliance Period referred to on the EmissionsCompliance label indicates the number of operating hours forwhich the engine has been shown to meet Federalemissionsrequirements.

    For engines lessthan 225 cc displacement.Category C = 125 hoursCategory B = 250 hoursCategoryA = 500 hours

    For engines of 225 cc or more displacement.Category C = 250 hoursCategory B = 500 hoursCategoryA = 1000 hours
