Mission We enable organizations and individuals to develop
through the appropriation of information and communication technologies (ICT).
Vision 2015 INFOTEC is a public research center, innovation and service that enables the implementation of key
projects to accelerating the incursion of Mexico in the information society and knowledge (SIC) projects.
Government agency attached to the National Council of Science and
Technology (Conacyt) in Mexico.
As a public center for innovation and technological development, we contribute to competitiveness projects of the government and institutions involved in the raid of
Mexico in the information society and knowledge, through the strategic use of Information Technology and
Communications (ICT ).
Nearly 4 decades serving the ICT development

The Mexican association with FIWARE of the FI-PPP program
One of the key research/business areas of INFOTEC is the internet atinfrastructure level (clusters and communications) and at application level(semantic web applications, cloud computing, Big Data, etc.)
In this context, as a strategic alliance, we promote an association with theFI‐PPP program with the objective of using the FIWARE Platform to capturenew opportunities derived from Future Internet technology trends byincreasing the effectiveness of business processes and infrastructures tosupport areas such as security, logistic, transport, health, and energy inorder to produce smart cities.
INFOTEC Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación
As a result of negotiationswith European Commissionand CONACYT, we createdthe Mexico FIWARE‐Labnode, which is part of theFIWARE infrastructure. Inorder to develop this node,a Future Internet NationalLaboratory was createdwhich hold the FIWARE‐Labnode.

Objetive:To establish a common space based on FIWARE, where universities, research centers, cities, companies, entrepreneurs and otherorganizations can freely experiment with technology associated withthis new technology wave, which includes: internet of things, cloudcomputing and Big Data.
Budget of the LaNIF:• 1.1 million of euros from CONACYT• 1.2 millions of euros from INFOTEC
LaNIF: Mexican Future Internet Laboratory
The LaNIF hosted the Mexican FIWARE‐LAB in order to enable us to develop the next generation of the internet applications based on the Generic Enablers of
FIWARE.

Phase 1: Designing and testing an initial node architecture
Phase 2: Implementing and tuning the
real node
Phase 3: Staff training on FIWARE architecture
Phase 4: Modeling the actors network of Mexican
node
LaNIF: Project phases
The creation of the FIWARE‐Lab in one of the priorities of the Mexico‐UE Cooperation Programme, for this reason we have an non‐interrupted creation process based on key phases
July 2014
Several key phases has been completed in Mexico since initial contact (November 2013 to date). Initial phases of designing the collaboration proposal, submission for the Call for National Laboratories of CONACYT and the event for launching the initial node are not
presented in the diagram.
January2014 July 2014/March 2015 March 2015
INFOTEC Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación
We executed an collaboration action withFIWARE experts to design the first versionof Mexico FIWARE‐Lab node.
The node was implemented in a initialhardware infrastructure of INFOTECconsisting of 100 cores.

Phase 1: Designing and testing and initial node architecture
Mexican Node
The goal: having our Mexican node operating just as any European node
One key activity was the connection of Mexican node to FIWARE Platform in Europe
INFOTEC Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación
Phase 2: Implementing and tuning the real node
In this phase, we acquired a high performancecomputing equipment to complement theinfrastructure of the Mexican node.
The final node design enables the LaNIF grow up withcompute nodes that could be physically distributed.
INFOTEC Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación
Phase 2: Implementing and tuning the real node
As result, the infrastructure of the node is composed by a genericFIWARE design an a specific Big Data Infrastructure to store andprocessing large volumes of data, for example, the datasets of theMexican Open Data Platform.

Phase 2: Implementing and tuning the real node
Currently we are in the process of migration and tuning of the node.
One of the key process of tuning is the creation of two implementation of FIWARE‐Lab,one node dedicated to experimental purposes and one productive node based on theavailability and security of our Data Center Tier III.
Tier 1 = Non‐redundant capacity components (single uplink and servers).Tier 2 = Tier 1 + Redundant capacity components.Tier 3 = Tier 1 + Tier 2 + Dual‐powered equipmentsand multiple uplinks, guaranteeing 99.982 availability.
The productive node will have all the support that INFOTEC gives to
productive projects.

Phase 3: Staff training on FIWARE architecture
To carried the installation of Mexico FIWARE‐Lab, a collaboration actions wascreated with Telefonica to train our specialists in OpenStack. The trainingconsidered the configuration of the network and security to enable the access, viaSSH, to the Mexican nodes from Spain.
Other activities of the training were: Validation of the nodes at OpenStack level. Activities related to addressing the authentication to the main node of
FILAN in Spain. Assignation of the types of fees to users of the Mexican node.
The training action enables INFOTEC to replicateand teach the process of creation of FIWARE‐Labnodes in other infrastructures in México andLatin‐American.

Phase 4: Modeling the actors network of the Mexican node
At the present time, we are in the process to identify the relevant actors to participate inthe Mexican node. The initial actor of the node are following:
Academy•CENIDET• ITESM• IIMAS
Industry•Plenum Group•QoS Labs
Government•Mexican Open data Platform
We are also defining the participation rules for actors, for example: Industries with staff certificated in Java industries with a specific maturity level The industry organizations should be
certificated in IPV6.
INFOTEC Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación
Based on FIWARE ACCELERATOR PROGRAMME of theEuropean Commission, we propose the creation of a stableprogram that allow the participation of public and privateorganizations to support the Mexican entities to generatesolutions with FIWARE.

In current FIWARE Accelerator Program, eachaccelerator presents a different type of financing :
• An open call divided in several phases.• An open call with a single phase• Several open calls at year
For our accelerator program, the type of financing willbe based on the best practices and statisticsproportioned by European Commission.
