What makes ‘Opportunities 2012’ so different is that it’s four events in one; there is Open4business, a meet

There is also a Suppliers Marketplace at the event, divided into five business sectors. Here, we have pulled together the very best suppliers in norfolk to showcase the broad range of services available to help businesses start and develop.
and if you want to boost your business knowledge, we have lined up nine fascinating Topical Workshops, where you can learn more on subjects such as PR, social media, export, health and wellbeing and much more.

Norfolk County Council has secured Government funding to help provide improved broadband speeds and access across Norfolk. Currently more than 50,000 private and commercial properties across the county are in broadband ‘not spots’, which means no broadband or very slow internet speeds of less than 2Mb/s. The County Council and the Eastern Daily Press have since launched a campaign to ask residents and businesspeople to register their interest in receiving better broadband. This is important as in order to attract competitive bids from a number of telecoms partners, as we need to show them what the actual demand in Norfolk is – not just where broadband services are currently lacking. Please help us get better broadband for Norfolk by visiting www.norfolk.gov.uk/sayyesnorfolk and signing up before 31 March.

CompeteFor was developed by the Regional Development Agencies and Devolved Authorities, in partnership with the Olympic Delivery Authority and LOCOG, to provide businesses, especially SMEs, with an opportunity to bid for London 2012 related contracts. Businesses have grasped that opportunity and over 10,000 contracts have been available via the site.
Since its initial development, other major national and local projects and buyers have started to use CompeteFor, including TFL for the Crossrail project, the largest engineering project in europe. There are still a significant number of games opportunities on the site, plus a growing number from alternative projects.
norfolk County Council strongly endorses CompeteFor as a great way for norfolk businesses to access London 2012 contracting opportunities. However, CompeteFor will be used by many other organisations seeking to place business and we would strongly urge norfolk businesses to make the most of it.

neW CHaMBeR WeBSiTe
UnLOCK gROWTH WiTH OUR neW COMMUniTY WeBSiTeThe Norfolk Chamber of Commerce is launching a brand new website to give Norfolk businesses an extra tool to help them unlock growth in their organisations.
The new site has been developed with the business community in mind to give Chamber members even greater opportunities to raise their profile, make new connections and access business training, knowledge and services. The Norfolk Chamber’s membership manager Chris Perry answers some of the key questions about the new site, and how it will benefit Norfolk businesses.
Q What prompted the Norfolk Chamber to create a new website?
A as with all businesses in the current economical climate, we needed to look at new ways to diversify and serve the needs of our
customers and the wider business community. as the business community is evolving, so must the Chamber evolve and keep up to date with new technologies, such as all social media channels, so we set about designing a site which directly meets the needs of our members.
Q Which areas did you identify that Norfolk business needed from the Chamber site?
A norfolk businesses join the Chamber for many reasons, but we tried to focus on the six main areas to assist our members:
l new ways of building connections and increasing business profilel easy access to business knowledge and trainingl Saving money by accessing our business services and benefitsl Keeping businesses up to date on our events and conferencesl easy access to our international and export services. l a conduit for members wanting information on business policy, local business knowledge and supporting the community.
Q What new features can the business community look forward to seeing?
A The whole site has been re-designed to be far more visual, interactive and community based.
We have enhanced the feature which allows members to upload their own stories and news articles, so that they can now be rated and discussed by the business community. This tool will allow a business to really increase their profile by encouraging discussions and allowing professionals to offer top tips and industry news to assist the other members .The top rated articles will be given increased profile, so it will encourage members to be innovative about the content.
This opens up a whole new possibility of linking supply chains and keeping our members up to date on new projects and developments around norfolk. i must point out, however, that this is not for free advertising, so please keep the articles topical and interesting.
The need for advice and knowledge is growing, so we will also be making the access to knowledge easier by breaking it down to areas such as access to skills and training seminars, HR and legal knowledge and services.
One other key feature is the members’ directory, which we have upgraded so it’s easier to use
Q Will this be a members only website?
A For the benefit of our members’ profiles and the wider business community, we will be allowing non members to register on the site
so they can join in discussions and access helpful information. But this is restricted. Only members have a business profile, can upload articles and access our members’ services and benefits.
Q What’s next on the horizon for the Norfolk Chamber?
A as i said before, the Chamber is evolving and we hope the new site will enable our members to take one extra step to unlocking growth.
it’s important that we create a site that can evolve with us. We can adapt the site and make additions that would benefit our members, but is important that we receive feedback from our members so we can continue to support them.
Q Where can members get more information on how to best use the site?
A The site is designed to be very user friendly, but i am always on hand to go over the features and benefits and how it can be used to suit
individual business needs. if anyone wants more information, just call me or one of my team on 01603 625977, or email [email protected]
