• He has a clever flair for adding humor to the hottest issues of the

time and his works mirror, in graphic detail, the events shaping the history of the Filipino people.

• His finest works initially appeared in the Pahayagang Malaya

during the dark days of the Marcos dictatorship where his fearless cartoons had earned the admiration of readers of the alternative press and the ire of many corrupt officials. His works had also appeared in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, The Times Journal and People's Journal.

Nonoy Zuñiga started as a folk singer during the early 1970’s before becoming the lead vocalist of the Family Birth Control Band for 5 years until 1980. His songs Doon Lang, Kumusta Ka, and “Never Ever Say Goodbye” released in 1981 secured his status in the music scene, earning for him the “Most Promising Entertainer” citation from the Aliw Awards in 1981, and the “Entertainer of the Year Award” from the same award-giving body the following year. His 1981 album was not only recognized by the award-giving bodies but buy the buying public as well, amassing receipts corresponding to a Philippine platinum record award. • Our new President has been writing songs since the age of 9. A Doctor of Medicine, Financial Service Broker and Management Consultant, Record Producer, Musical Director and Arranger, Recording Artist, and Graphics Artist, Mon Del Rosario has reaped various awards starting in 1981 when he won the Grand Prize at the 4th Metro Pop Music Festival for "Sinong Baliw", also interpreted by him. He also wrote the popular hits "Isang Linggong Pag-ibig", "Tamis ng Unang Halik", "Boy", and "Somewhere in My Past". He has also written numerous songs for major action comedy films and has been nominated in various film awards for theme song and film scoring. •AN ACT REGULATING THE EDUCATION AND LICENSURE OF PHYSICIANS AND THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE IN THE PHILIPPINES, REPEALING FOR THE PURPOSE REPUBLIC ACT NO. 2382, AS AMENDED, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSESStatus: Substituted by HB06403 The doctor-solon said that one step in deterring medical abuses is by enacting a law such as House Bill 6403 or the Physicians Act.

• To note, it was Garin who filed the Bill in the House of Representatives and was approved last week on second reading.

• “The Medical Act of 1959 is the only law governing the practice of medicine and sad to say, it has become obsolete. Needs and problems on medical care have obviously evolved. The fact that non-specialists are performing liposuction surgery without the supposedly required residency training increases the risk of botched procedures,” the lady solon added pointing out the urgency of the Physician's Act.

• Additional grounds to revoke the license of a medical professional are included in the current Bill. The changes were incorporated in the proposed Physicians’ Act as opposed to the only three grounds stated in the Medical Act of 1959. Included now is addiction to any habit-forming drug as a ground as it stipulates mandatory membership in the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) as governing body in the practice of medicine, both in the general field and the specialty field here in the country.

• Garin emphasized that, “The number one unspoken rule in the medical profession is to ‘Do No Harm’. The proposed Physicians’ Act seeks to further strengthen that rule as it provides precise regulations needed to effectively go after violators and prosecute them. The proposed measure further professionalizes the medical profession”.

• Mae Jemison was the first African American woman to go into space. In September 1992, she served as a Science Mission Specialist on Space Lab J in a joint operation between United States and Japan.

She was born in Decatur, Alabama, the youngest child to Charlie Jemison and Dorothy Green and was raised in Chicago. Like most innovators and successful adults, she was highly influenced by her parents dedication to helping her pursue her passions - science and dance!As early as elementary school, Jemison learned to make connections to science by studying nature. She was interested in science and her parents helped her pursue her dreams.

• She also was (and still is) into dance and thought she might be a dancer when she grew up - she still dances, still pursues that passion as well. She has studied at Alvin Ailey and pursues all types of modern and classical dance.

• I read a funny story about her in my research about Dr. Jemison - about how she was "into pus" and how her mother enouraged her to find out all about an infected cut.

• She graduated high school at age 16 and went to Stanford University and majored in chemical engineering and African American Studies.

• She attended medical school at Cornell University.• After completing her medical internship Jemison joined the Peace Corps

and worked as a staff physician in West Africa before entering an astronaut training program in 1987.
