About Us Since our founding, Torontech has become one of the world's leading diversified manufacturers of specialized industrial equipment, consumables, and related service businesses. Torontech products and solutions are at work all over the world, in various industries. Our global network ensures our quality support towards our goal in providing the latest technologies in related fields globally presentable to our clients. We are never, whether we know it or not, more than a few steps from an innovative and yet cost-effective Torontech solution.

Optical fibers have a wide number of applications. The use and demand for optical fiber has grown tremendously. Optical fibers have widespread

applications in Telecommunication sector, ranging from global networks to desktop computers. These involve the transmission of voice, data, or video

over distances of less than a meter to hundreds of kilometers, using one of a few standard fiber designs in one of several cable designs. Carriers use

optical fiber to carry plain old telephone service across their nationwide networks. Local exchange carriers use fiber to carry this same service between

central office switches at local levels, and sometimes as far as the neighborhood or individual home.

Optical fiber is also used extensively for transmission of data. Multinational firms need secure, reliable systems to transfer data and financial information

between buildings to the desktop terminals or computers and to transfer data around the world. Cable television companies also use optical fiber for

delivery of digital video and data services. The high bandwidth provided by optical fiber makes it the perfect choice for transmitting broadband signals,

such as high-definition television (HDTV) telecasts.

ToronTech offers a wide range of physical testing machines to evaluate mechanical properties of optical fiber cables.

An optical fiber cable is a cable containing one or more optical fibers that are used to carry light. The optical fiber elements are typically individually

coated with plastic layers and contained in a protective tube suitable for the environment where the cable will be deployed.

Optical fiber consists of a core and a cladding layer, selected for total internal reflection due to the difference in the refractive index between the two.

In practical fibers, the cladding is usually coated with a layer of acrylate polymer or polyimide. This coating protects the fiber from damage but does

not contribute to its optical waveguide properties. Individual coated fibers then have a tough resin buffer layer and/or core tube(s) extruded around

them to form the cable core. Several layers of protective sheathing, depending on the application, are added to form the cable. Rigid fiber assemblies

sometimes put light-absorbing ("dark") glass between the fibers, to prevent light that leaks out of one fiber from entering another. This reduces

cross-talk between the fibers, or reduces flare in fiber bundle imaging applications Optical fibers are very strong, but the strength is drastically reduced

by unavoidable microscopic surface flaws inherent in the manufacturing process. The initial fiber strength, as well as its change with time, must be

considered relative to the stress imposed on the fiber during handling, cabling, and installation for a given set of environmental conditions. There are

three basic scenarios that can lead to strength degradation and failure by inducing flaw growth: dynamic fatigue, static fatigues, and zero-stress

aging.

Optical Fiber Cable Tensile Tester(Outdoor Cable) is designed in accordance to IEC-60794-1 Method E1 for tensile testing of outdoor Optical Fiber Cable’s behaviour of attenuation and/or fiber elongation strain as a function of the load on a cable which may occur during installation.

Optical Fiber Cable Tensile testing system consists of an attenuation measur-ing apparatus, typically an OTDR supplied by the customer. A fiber elongation strain measuring apparatus based on dispersion testing equipment. A specially designed tensile test machine capable of tensioning 150 meters of optical cable in six legs of 25 meters each. The machine is equipped with a motor for controlled tensioning and a load cell for measuring the actual tension applied on the cable.

Cable is wound in the machine over appropriately sized sheaves. The cable ends extend to reach the measuring instruments. A pre-determined number of fibers within the cable are concatenated by fusion splicing. Typically, two sets of fibers are used, one will serve to measure attenuation change and the other serves for elongation monitoring.

After all initial measurements and calibration are carried out, the cable is pulled at a specified rate until a pre-attenuation and fiber length are measured.

This process may involve several tensile levels in order to characterize the entire tensile behaviour of the cable, or be carried out only at the defined maximum allowed tension level.

Successful quality is tested when fiber cable is under load the fiber attenuation is not increased more than a predetermined value, typically 0.05dB over fiber length measured, and fiber cable is elongated more than a pre-determined value over its initial length. The allowed elongation under installation load is typically 0.25%

Optical Fiber Cable Flexing Tester

Optical Cable Flexing Tester determines the ability of an optical fibre cable to withstand repeated flexing for elevator cable and similar application. Test confirms to IEC 60794-1-2-E8 standardDesigned with pulleys having a semicircular shaped groove for circular cables and a flat groove for flat cables. Restraining clamps are fixed so that the pull is always fixed so that the pull is always applied by the weight from which the carriage is moving away. The sample are stretched over the pulleys, each end being loaded with a weight. The mass of these weights and the diameters of pulleys is specified in the detailed specificationThe sample shall be flexed for the number of cycles specified in the detail specifica-tion. A cycle is defined as the movement of the carriage away from its starting position to one end of the traverse, followed by movement in the opposite direction to the other end and then back to the starting position.

The Optical Fiber Cable Temperature Cycling Chamber is designed to apply temperature cycling on optical fiber cables in order to determine the stability behavior of the attenuation of cables submitted to temperature changes. It features large test chamber, precise temperature control as well as low temperature fluctuations.

Changes in the attenuation of optical fiber cables which may occur with changing temperatures are generally the result of buckling or tensioning of the fibers resulting from differences between their thermal expansion coefficient and the coefficients of the cable strength and jacketing mem-bers. Test conditions for temperature dependent measurements shall simulate the worst condi-tions.

This test can be used either for monitoring cable behavior in the temperature range which may occur during storage, transportation and usage or to check, in a selected temperature range (usually wider than that required for the above-mentioned case), the stability behavior of the attenuation connected to a substantially micro bend-free situation of the fiber within the cable structure.
