So what does happen to the dry ice? Basically, it disappears into thin air. Literally. As the dry ice pellet hits the contaminant to be removed it reverts back to a gas. This is called sublimation, and it is the only thing that converts from solid form straight to gas form, without passing through a liquid phase.

Which brings us nicely onto how it does what it does?The temperature of dry ice (-79C) causes a miniature kinetic explosion upon impact with a surface. This freezes and then dislodges the contaminant. We cant explain the exact science behind it here, as we haven’t the room. Google it or just trust us, its very clever!

And because of the clever science behind dry ice blasting, we can actually bring it inside to clean!That’s right. There isn't a secondary waste stream to contain (unlike sand, bead, shot and soda blasting), we just sweep up the contaminant that we have removed.Of course, we can go outside too!
