What is the OPTIS License Manager?

The OPTIS License Manager software is included in all OPTIS software.

A separate installation is also available to install the OPTIS License Manager on a dedicated License Server computer

without installing the OPTIS software.

Page 5: OPTIS License Manager

Getting Started Page 5 of 31

The OPTIS License Manager is based on a client-server architecture.

Two Executable Files

The OPTIS License Manager software is composed of two executable files.

The OptisLicenseManager.exe

The OptisLicenseManager.exe file is a tool for administration tasks or for client's configuration for end-users

accessible for:

Administrators. In this case the OPTIS License Manager is running on the same computer as the OPTIS License

Server.

End-users. In this case the OPTIS License Manager is not running on the same computer as the OPTIS License

Server.

You can launch the OPTIS License Manager software from Start, All Programs, OPTIS, OPTIS License, OPTIS License Manager.

The OptisLicenseServer.exe

The OptisLicenseServer.exe file is the server part of the OPTIS License software, and runs on the License Server

computer, as a Windows service or in the user session.

It manages all the client requests from the OPTIS License Manager, from the OPTIS software, on the same computer

(nodelock), or from different computers (floating).

You can launch the OPTIS License Server: - as a Windows service. From Start, All Programs, OPTIS, OPTIS License, OPTIS Control Panel. - in the user session. From Start, All Programs, OPTIS, OPTIS License, OPTIS License Server.

You do not need to log onto the License Server to run the OPTIS License Server.

Two Configurations

The nodelock configuration is composed of a computer on which you must install the OPTIS software, including the

OPTIS License Manager software.

OptisLicenseServer.exe and OptisLicenseManager.exe have to run on the computer.

The floating configuration is composed of:

Page 6: OPTIS License Manager

Page 6 of 31 OPTIS License Manager User Guide

A License Server computer on which you must install the OPTIS License software.

OptisLicenseServer.exe and OptisLicenseManager.exe have to run on the License Server computer.

License Client computers on which you must install the OPTIS software.

OptisLicenseManager.exe has to run on License Client computers.

How does the OPTIS License Manager Work?

For each session of an OPTIS software started on a License Client computer, the OPTIS License Manager adds:

A user and a session if it is the first session of this user, and increments the number of tokens for the requested

license.

A session to this user if the user already has a session for the requested license.

If the user runs many sessions of the same software on the same computer, he only uses one token.

When all the sessions are closed, the token is released.

The client OPTIS License Manager checks the communication with the server OPTIS License Manager every five

minutes.

What is Included in a License File?

Each license file includes:

Its identity:

Software name & version,

Configuration Id.

Its configuration:

List of modules,

Expiration date,

Number of tokens (0 for nodelock license),

Maximum time of use.

The serial number of the licenses server it is installed on.

License files are located in ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseServer.

Format is .OptisLicense.

What are the Log Files for?

Global Log File

The Global log file tracks problems with the use of the OPTIS License Server.

It contains all events of the OPTIS License Server.

The global license log file is generated in ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseServer\OptisLicenseServer.log.

From the OPTIS License Manager, you can view or clear the global log file .

Page 7: OPTIS License Manager

Getting Started Page 7 of 31

For software codes, you can view What are the OPTIS Software Codes? (see page 14).

Per License Log File

The Per License log file tracks the license usage, and has the same name as the license.

It contains the following information:

The license file user,

Date and time of the license use,

Date and time of the license release,

Duration of the use.

The per license log file is generated in ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseServer\xxxx.OptisLicense.

Renewing a License

OPTIS licenses V12.0 or higher version, with a maintenance contract, are compatible with OPTIS License Manager

2013 or higher.

Therefore, the upgrade of license version is no more required when upgrading a software version.

However, the license has to be upgraded when upgrading a software version:

If the license is associated to an expired maintenance contract.

In case a new functionality is granted by the license but not in all packages or options.

For more information, you can view the compatibility tables for SPEOS CAA V5 Based (see page 11) and other OPTIS software (see page 10).

You must never change your license when having a simulation still running.

Renewing License for OPTIS Software

In case of floating license configuration, the OPTIS License Manager release has to be the same as the license file release.

Duplicating License Configuration Files

It is possible to duplicate the license configuration on several Client computers.

.cfg files contain the license configuration coming from your OPTIS Licence Manager. They are located in the ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseClient directory. This directory is used by OptisLicenseManager and by the software for all client configuration files.

To duplicate license configuration,

1. Report the configuration on all client computers using the SPEOS CAA V5 Based VX.X.cfg and the

OptisLicenseClient.cfg files.

2. Copy them from an already configured computer.

3. Paste them in the OPTIS_XXX_APPLICATION_DATA_PATH\OPTIS\OptisLicenseClient folder of another computer.

In case your computer has to be connected to a nodelocked license for a software and also to a floating license as

Client computer for a second software, it can be useful to use the .cfg files to create your own switch program with

an editor as for example Visual Basic.

For floating configuration, OptisLicenseClient.cfg file gives the name of the License Server. There is one Others.cfg file for each version of the software. This file defines the defined license from the License Server list.

Example of OptisLicenseClient.cfg

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<Configuration>

<Server>pdt080052srvr</Server>

</Configuration>

Example of Speos 2009.cfg

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<Configuration>

<SelectedSoftwareId>12</SelectedSoftwareId>

<SelectedConfigurationGUID>"{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}"</SelectedConfigurat

ionGUID>

<LastWarningBeforeExpiration>6</LastWarningBeforeExpiration>

</Configuration>

Different users on the same computer can have different client configurations (licenses server to use, default license

to use).

When using the OPTIS Distributed Computing, some distributed tools are running as Windows services (SYSTEM user). In this case the client configuration files are stored in the ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseClient directory.

Restricting Access

Restricting Access to License Server

To restrict License Server access to a list of users, you must create a text file.

1. Open the ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseServer directory.

2. Create a text file.

3. Name it OptisLicenseServer_AuthorizedUsers.txt.

4. Enter user names.

You can use small or capital letters.

5. Save.

When launching OPTIS License Manager, if another user tries to connect, the following status appears: The logged user on the client computer is not authorized to be connected to the license server.

Page 16: OPTIS License Manager

Page 16 of 31 OPTIS License Manager User Guide

Restricting Access to a Specific License

To restrict specific license access to a list of users, you must create a text file.

1. Open the ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseServer directory on the License Server.

2. Create a text file.

3. Name it Softwarename_{GUI ID}.OptisLicenseServer_AuthorizedUsers.txt.

For example, you can name it Labs

2012_{DEC34B38-1A07-E211-91DB-001517450C39}.OptisLicense_AuthorizedUsers.txt.

4. Enter user names.

You can use small or capital letters.

5. Save.

When launching OPTIS License Manager, the following status appears in case another user tries to connect: The logged user on the client computer is not authorized to be connected to the license.

Sharable Platform

Sharable option extends the number of tokens of a floating license on a License Server.

Number of tokens of all sharable licenses gives the maximum simultaneous users.

It is independent from Software or Configuration.

How to Use the Borrowing?

Nodelock Configuration

The lender has the Official Borrowable license.

The borrower gets the Borrowable license from the lender for a specific period.

1. The lender:

1. Launch the OPTIS License Manager.

2. Select a borrowable license.

3. Click File, Borrow the selected license....

The Borrowing window appears.

Target serial number requires the serial number of the borrower computer.

2. The borrower:

1. Copy the serial number from the OPTIS License Manager.

3. The lender:

1. Paste the serial number in the Borrowing window.

Page 17: OPTIS License Manager

The list of sessions of the selected user also lets you know the sessions of the selected user.

If you try to use the software, an OPTIS License Error message appears saying This nodelock license has been

borrowed.

The borrowed license cannot be deleted.

7. Copy the new license file from the lender computer.

4. The borrower:

1. Paste the new license file on the borrower computer.

2. Launch the OPTIS License Manager.

3. Click File, Import a license....

4. Click Switch account to set the license by default for user account.

5. Click Configuration, Use this license by default

-Or-

A star * in the Default box indicates the default license.

When launching the OPTIS software, an OPTIS License Warning window appears telling that Your license file will expire on XXX.

When using the OPTIS software, the List of users of the selected license: window is updated in the OPTIS License Manager.

Floating Configuration

The principle is similar to the nodelock configuration. These are the main differences.

The lender has the Official Borrowable license on a License Server computer.

The borrower gets the Borrowable license from the lender for a specific period on a License Client computer.

From the lender

In the OPTIS License Manager window, in List of license in the License Server, the floating license includes a

number of tokens in the Tokens acquired box

When the license is borrowed, the Tokens in use box is incremented by 1.

From the borrower

Page 18: OPTIS License Manager

Page 18 of 31 OPTIS License Manager User Guide

Information related to the list of users and sessions are displayed as follows.

If an user borrows a license until 10:00, the license is not available until 10:00.

On the computer where the license has been borrowed, a BORROWED user is displayed and shows that the license has been borrowed.

If there are no more tokens available for that license nobody else can use this license.

FAQS

General Questions

Question: What is the serial number of License Server?

Answer: The serial number comes from the OPTIS License Server computer. It is based on the hard disk serial

number and on the MAC address of the network adapter.

You can view Status: Invalid Serial Number (see page 20) in case your computer has several network adapters.

Question: What is the format of the serial number?

Answer: Format is not the same belonging depending on whether it is for the previous or current OPTIS License

Manager.

Example: Previous Serial Number: 1551749401*5F0C7833635094D3. New Serial Number:

{2A67791F-0000-0000-0000-001635672438}.

The previous license file was .key file, now it is a .OptisLicense file not containing the same information.

You can view What is Included in a License File? (see page 6).

Question: Is it possible to import several licenses on the same License Server computer?

Answer: Yes, there is the ability to have several software versions on a same license server.

Question: Do we have to update all licenses at once?

Answer: No, it is possible to update your licenses separately.

Question: Do I need to keep my hardkey dongle (USB or parallel)?

Answer: No, the new OPTIS License Manager does not need it. Hardkey dongles are replaced by software licenses.

Please send us back your hardkey dongles to our OPTIS office in Toulon (http://www.optis-world.com/contact.htm).

Question: Does OPTIS License Manager rely on FlexLM from Macrovision, orLicense Use Management (LUM) from

IBM?

Answer: OPTIS License Manager is based on a technology developed by OPTIS.

Question: What is the license check rhythm during the Inverse and Direct simulations?

Answer: The update rate is one license check every minute while the simulation is running.

For precision, the simulations only check a flag (connection to server OK or NOTOK) and a kernel timer checks

permanently (simulation or not) the connection with the server every 5 minutes and if after 3 attempts the

connection fails, the previous flag is set to NOTOK.

Question: Can I use my current license to run a previous software release?

Answer: Yes this can be possible. For more details, you can view Renewing a License (see page 10).

Nodelocked Questions

Page 27: OPTIS License Manager

FAQs Page 27 of 31

Answer: Yes, Floating License management can be run both in a Local Area Network (LAN)

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_area_network) and a Workgroup

Question: What is the tolerance of the License Server regarding the latency in the network ?

Answer: The new OPTIS License Manager has a system that allows a tolerance of network disconnections.

It will try to connect 3 times every 5 minutes before blocking the OPTIS software.

Question: When two users are using a same floating license, is it possible that while one user is running a simulation

with Speos Core with a computer, the other uses the license at the same time to work with another computer?

Answer: The license is mandatory during the simulation and cannot be used until the end of the simulation.

How to Reconnecy to a License Located on the License Server Computer?

1. After being connected to the License Server computer, from the OPTIS License Manager, click Configuration, Use

this license by default .

An asterisk appears in the List of licenses in the License Server Default box, in the Default cell, in front of the

license.

2. Check that the new user is added to the Lists of users of the selected license box.

Each user is able to see the current(s) user(s) of a floating license allowing him to identify and call a user from an other team to free the license.

How to Release a Token?

Automatically

Close the OPTIS software.

The token is automatically released.

This is instantaneous except for SPEOS CAA V5 Based for which it takes around 15-20 minutes.

Manually

Click Tokens, Release all tokens in use of the selected user .

In the administrator mode, the user is able to free the license of another user.

In case of a crash or the close of SPEOS CAA V5 Based, the token is released by a client computer after 15-20

minutes.

Then there are two situations:

The same client computer restarts SPEOS CAA V5 Based and takes the same token not yet released.

Another client computer needs the same token immediately. In this case from the first client computer, go to the

OPTIS License Manager tool to release the token manually. It is not needed to do it on the Server computer.

How to Test the Connection between the License Server and the License

Client?

This page describes how to generate a dump file of the OPTIS License Server. The dump file describes the current status of the selected OPTIS License Server from the OPTIS License Manager.

A dump file generation may be used to test the connection between the License Server and the License Client.

OPTIS License Manager window has to be closed to be able to generate the dump file.

To generate the dump file generation, use the following command.

XXX\OptisLicense\OptisLicenseManager DUMP

By default XXX=C:\Program Files (x86)\OPTIS

The dump file is generated in ...\OPTIS\OptisLicenseServer.

The dump file is called OptisLicenseServerDump.txt.
