Operation

Using the stored favourite channels

The high eficiency backlight is on during operation

The ON button also acts as the UP key.

If the meter is left running with no button pushes detected it will automatically switch off after 10 minutes. The Digiscan when switched on recalls the favourite channel which was last used.

To select another favourite channel press the LEFT or RIGHT arrow key. When the favour-ite channel is selected press ENTER to go to the scan screen shown below.

The settings for gain frequency and bandwidth are all preset by the favourites memory, and the desired signal can now be searched for. Adjust the dish for maximum signal - the higher the peak the better the signal. When measuring optical signals the optical power is shown adjust for maximum reading,

Note The spectrum shown when in the optical mode is of the vertical low band only.

To change the sweep width use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to zoom in and out. Using these keys means that you can view the complete satellite band in one scanthese keys means that you can view the complete satellite band in one scanthese keys means that . This is ideal for identifying faulty cables and LNBs.

The centre frequency is set using the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys. The figures at the lower left and right show the start and finish frequencies with the centre frequency in the middle below the dotted cursor.

Finding a new channel and storing it as a favourite

To find and add your own channel to the favourites list, you will need know the re-quired centre frequency of the channel and the polarity of the signal (horizontal high or low or vertical high or low). All other settings are adjusted automatically by the Digiscan.

In the MENU screen select LNB volts. This brings up the screen shown below.

Select the required setting with the UP and DOWN keys Press ENTER to go to the scan screen and set the chosen LNB voltage.

Use the arrow keys on the scan to set the required centre frequency of the satellite.

Set up the dish to the expected angle and adjust it for the best signal level. Check that the desired signal is on the centre dotted line in the middle of the screen.

Adjust the GAIN controls on the Optiscan to bring the signal level on screen with the peak of the signal about three quarters of the way up the screen for comfortable viewing.

Press ENTER which brings up the MEASURE screen.

Other features

In the setup MENU options selecting sound ON/ OFF emits a tone which increases in fre-quency as the signal level increases.

If any of the original factory preset favourites are accidentally overwritten, the setup menu enables them to be reset. These favourites occupy the first 20 channels. N.B. all added fa-vorites and new DiSEqC settings will be erased!

The MEASURE screen shows all the parameters of the signal. If LOCK is not achieved, the frequency may be changed by using the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys.

When LOCK has been achieved, the identification will be read from the satellite; this can take up to 30 seconds as this data is not transmitted continuously.

PASS on screen indicates that SNR (MER) and BER are good.

If MARGINAL or FAIL is indicated then check both the SNR and BER figures. Note that the BER reading is Pre Viterbi which is the uncorrected data and shows the quality of the signal before any corrections are made. This gives the most critical indication of the quality of the installation.

These settings may now be stored as a favourite for future use. To store a new favour-ite go to MENU and select store favourite, the screen below will be shown. Select new favourite using the RIGHT or LEFT arrow keys (up to 99 can be stored) use an unused favorite position and press ENTER . The favourite is then stored for future use and can be selected from the start up favourites screen. Note favorites may be stored over exist-ing favorites , however when a factory reset is made the first 20 favorites will be over-written

The bar graph at the bottom of the screen shows the signal level. The level is also shown in dBuV at the end of the bar graph. When the signal has been found, LOCK will appear on the top right of the screen.

When LOCK has been achieved, the identification will be read back from the satellite. Read back can take up to 30 seconds as this data is not transmitted continuously.

PASS on the screen indicates that SNR (MER) and BER are good.

If MARGINAL or FAIL is indicated, check both the SNR and BER figures as one or both of these will be incorrect. More adjustment to the dish can be made to get the best possible readings

To select another favourite press MENU to go to the screen shown below.
