Oracle Business UnitBoost performance, reduce cost

Building on successSCC’s dedicated Oracle Business Unit (BU)helps you reduce the cost of developing, integrating and managing converged infrastructure projects while boosting performance across the board.

A trusted partnerSCC’s Oracle BU forms part of its strategy to strengthen its software business, as the company continues to evolve into the Europe’s principal IT services provider.

We recognise that the world of enterprise computing has moved forward, with a blend of cloud services and converged infrastructure now proving an attractive option for many organisations.

In response, we made a substantial early investment in a specialist team of pre-sales technical, virtual support, and sales staff with the required expertise to get the best out of the Oracle software and hardware environment.

SCC and OracleSCC is among Oracle’s leading partners globally, and the catalyst for the dedicated Oracle BU was a hat trick of UK, European and World awards for excellence at the company’s annual awards scheme.

Our status as one of Oracle’s most accredited UK partners underlines the depth of our expertise in. As ever, however, enterprise ICT is a business based not on prizes but on performance, and the creation of this new specialist practice will enable our customers to access a range of potential benefits.

The benefitsOracle, a ubiquitous feature of enterprise computing, has been engineered to work perfectly with Sun hardware, creating an environment that offers a range of benefits.

Inside the Oracle world, using a converged system where both software and hardware are designed to work in perfect harmony results in a reduced total cost of ownership and significant performance gains

Deployment is a much faster process, and with the risks of encountering problems also greatly reduced, support requirements are typically lessened.

Such an approach also effectively removes the burden of upgrading operating software and other core systems.

Whereas a traditional migration process can involve a painstaking and expensive outlay ensuring that third party applications continue to function - the cost of upgrading a single middleware app can cost northwards of £100,000 - migrating within a pure Oracle environment removes the need for any such outlay.

Why SCC?One other advantage of SCC’s dedicated Oracle Business Unit is that it allows us to own your solutions entirely, meaning that our customers don’t need to design, build, support or even see their kit – just to know that it works.

This expertise, scale and capacity is why we’ve already won major contracts.

We implemented, support and host a complex ‘Red Stack’ solution of Oracle Servers, Storage, Database and Apps for an international restaurant chain, while our latest win has seen us take on a large managed services contract for another household name company.

The challengeWorking in partnership with Symatrix, the leading Oracle HR Application Support and Development business, SCC’s Payroll, HR & Data Services team is trusted to deliver an innovative HR and Employee Portal system to the UK’s foremost restaurant chain, based on Oracle’s Red Stack solutions.

The customer’s business relies on high performance, high availability service, with the ability to deliver a HR and Employee Portal via the Internet to over 100,000 employees, in the UK.

SCC was engaged via its dedicated Payroll, HR & Data Services team to build the solution, establishing a Hosted System and DBA service, based on Oracle’s Red Stack.

The customer, one of the UK’s most successful restaurant chains, required the solution in response to a number of business challenges including environmental improvements, cost reduction and a particularly high employee turnover.

Existing systems were fast becoming outdated, while SCC’s HR and Employee Portal has enabled the business to keep pace both with its own HR processes and changing technology.

The solutionThe portal system supports payslip and employee data, shift management and rostering, as well as the streaming of employee training material on a business-wide scale.

The solution includes production system, a Disaster Recovery system (using Oracle’s Data Guard) and multiple development, test, pre-production and training environments.

SCC also delivers a comprehensive DBA service to ensure high availability of the service, including the use of the Oracle RAC (Real Application Clustering) and Apache Proxy servers to ensure data security and intrusion protection.

The futureFollowing the successful service implementation and delivery, SCC and Symatrix has now implemented a further similar solution, to the UK’s leading legal firm, as well as other combinations of the Red Stack technology.
