American heritage (1992):

• Verbal: relating to, or associate with word

• Verbal: concerned with words only, rather than content.

Webster’s (1981):

Concerned with or using for effect words rather than meaning.

DEFINITION

American heritage (1992) -> Communication:

1. the exchange thoughts, messages, or information as by speech, signals, writing or behavior

2. The art and technique of using words effectively and with grace in imparting ones ideas.

Gove (1981) -> Communication

The act or action of imparting or transmitting facts or information.

Working definition of verbal communication:

is the act of speaking words both for their effect and meaning when transmitting information and or ideas to another individual
