Amazing doesn't begin to describe it It's been a big month for us here at the Orange County Sanitation District! First, we celebrated the end of our fiscal year and all of our many accomplishments. Then we received an early morning visit from the #1 morning news program in Los Angeles, the KTLA Morning News, and popular reporter Allie MacKay. Strong fiscal management

Strong Board leadership and our constant commitment to spending wisely left us facing the new year in good financial condition. We are extremely proud of our AAA bond rating. And, this year's budget is $1.5 million less than originally approved a year ago. Coming on the heels of

the California Water Environment Association award for treatment plant of the year, the Orange County Grand Jury released a survey showing our Board Members being among the lowest paid in the County. They also recognized our commitment to transparency. and Craig Dunn showed Allie the ropes. She learned about the different wastewater processes by seeing the effluent after each process, got a lesson on "cake" and got to load a biosolids truck. KTLA is the #1 rated morning news program in southern California. It is also available via satellite as a superstation, throughout North America on Dish Network systems, as well as on cable systems in selected cities throughout the Southwestern part of the United States and in Canada nationwide. As a result, we received phone call and email about the program from as far away as Montana, San Francisco, and Canada. The most valuable lesson learned by Allie and the Los Angeles anchors.."I don't know about you, but I am glad these guys are here 24/7 to do what they do, otherwise our lives would be a whole lot different," said Allie.

The world's first ...here at OCSD! The world's first sewage-powered hydrogen fuel station opened at our Fountain Valley plant on August 16. Drivers of hydrogen-fueled cars can exit the 405 freeway at Euclid Avenue and fill up with converted sewage waste that offers the equivalent of 70 miles per gallon. A half dozen hydrogen fuel cell cars were on display for the over 125

dignitaries who attended. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher came to see the new energy station along with representatives from Air Products, Fuel Cell Energy, National Fuel Cell Research Center, UCI, South Coast AQMD, California Air Resources Board and the United States Department of Energy. The Orange County Register covered the opening with a front page story, slide show, graphic representation and a video. The Los Angeles Times, the Daily Pilot, KABC and KNBC reported on the high tech solution to producing a clean fuel source. More.

discussion of the wastewater treatment process, and a bus tour of our facility. More information.
