Four great friends live near each other in a big jungle: Orangutan, Tiger, Elephant and Crocodile. They love being together and having fun. Each of them is special, but the most important thing is the friendship and love that connects them.

Orangutan’s house is up high in a treetop, but that’s no problem for Tiger, Elephant and Crocodile. Their friend made an elevator with bamboo, a vine and a wheel. When his friends get on, Orangutan pulls as hard as he can and soon all three of them are up top with him.

After putting on their pajamas, now it is time to brush their teeth, because we all know this is very important. But Elephant just cannot grip the toothbrush with his huge legs, so Tiger cleans one of his tusks with his tail and Orangutan cleans the other one with one of his hands. Crocodile takes the longest because he has… lots and lots of teeth!

Once they are in the bedroom, a big pillow fight starts! Elephant grabs a pillow with his trunk and hits Tiger over the head. To defend himself, Tiger bites the pillow and feathers fly and float in the air. Crocodile and Orangutan both have their heads covered in feathers and start fighting willy-nilly. They are having a great time!

Orangutan remembers he has some animal cards and he starts handing them out with his hands and feet. They must all imitate the animal on their card. Crocodile has to imitate a frog and Elephant, a kangaroo. Orangutan keeps handing them out and Tiger can’t stop laughing at seeing his friends clowning around. Clowning

Tiger, Crocodile and Elephant start to feel tired and are getting their stuffed animals to take to bed, but Orangutan is still up. He tells them he isn’t sleepy and wants to keep playing with them. And he has a great game in mind: for them to all jump from their hammocks to see who can jump highest.

After one big leap, Orangutan is up on the lamp and very pleased with himself. He tells everyone else he is the winner. Orangutan waits for them to clap, but all three are already in bed. They look at him sleepily and explain that they don’t want to play, because they are worn out.

Orangutan realizes it’s a good idea to lie down in his hammock. But, when he is just about to do it, he changes his mind, grabs his stuffed animal, starts moving it like a puppet, and asks them: – Hey guys, can’t we play just a little more?

Crocodile explains that the next part of the game is to close their eyes and think about what they all could play tomorrow. Oh! And it’s very important to be still and silent in your hammock because the first one who talks or gets up loses the game.

Orangutan had never played that game, but he thinks it sounds like a lot of fun. Stretched out and in silence, all sorts of things he could do with his friends are popping into his mind: have a picnic and swim in the river, make a cabin with branches and leaves…His eyes slowly start to close.

TIME FOR BED, A GOOD HABIT CHILDREN SHOULD ADOPT

Children can experience bedtime in different ways. It partly depends on each child’s personality and needs, but also on parents teaching children good habits. If we can do so, it can make this process pleasant and not into a nightly fight with excuses and reasons to not go to bed.

For both adults and children, going to bed is a complete ritual and—as such—it is important and necessary to keep the routine the same as possible. Keep the same time and the same order of activities so the routine becomes a good habit.

The ritual normally starts with a bath or shower, which kids normally have before dinner. The little ones tend to like this time, as they enjoy splashing in the water and playing with their toys. If they always have their bath before dinner and the time is always the same, we provide our child with great security.

Whenever possible, dinner should be with the whole family, early and without too much food. An early and light dinner also assists with good digestion and favors a good night’s sleep.

They recommend not having the television on and that children don’t have any electronic devices nearby, like tablets or cell phones. In addition to being distracting and not favoring conversation between family members, they can become a source of conflict and cause anger or rage.

After dinner, it is important for children to go to the bathroom to brush their teeth and pee before going to bed. Both are good habits we should teach our kids. Brushing their teeth helps prevent future cavities and peeing helps prevent possible accidents in bed during the night.

Then the first thing we should do when the kids are in bed is to read or tell them a story. This habit not only encourages their love of reading, but the act of reading also calms them down.

To finish the ritual, give them a goodnight kiss right when they are ready to go to sleep. Some children need us to hold their hand or to rub their back to relax them… We all know what needs our own children have, but we should also be aware that through our persistence and patience, we can get them into bed and trying to go to sleep without anger or moaning.

Many children like to have a stuffed animal or doll in bed with them, as this gives them the security they need at these times. They may also like to have a nightlight to allay any fears of the dark they may have.

The room where our children sleep should be a nice space that helps them fall asleep easily. Their bedroom should be in a quiet part of the house, without loud inside noises (music or TV at high volumes), or outside noise, like cars or motorcycles, horns… The temperature in the room should also be suitable: neither too cold nor too hot, as neither extreme helps them get to sleep.

Acquiring these good habits helps assure that our kids sleep the hours necessary, which they recommend as between 10 and 12 hours. These hours of rest favor their health developing as correctly as possible. It is important to trust your podiatrist and make an appointment if your child has trouble sleeping, since most problems an be treated. Guide
