The Matryoshka doll, is an iconic symbol

of Russia; like a puzzle, one beautifully

painted doll is crafted as a container for

another, and another; each doll holding

a smaller doll inside. We were inspired

by the idea that beyond the surface

beauty there is more to see, discover and

understand each doll reveals something

of the past and something new, just like

the real women they represent and also

our brand.

Orb has its roots deep in the surf and skate

movement and we continue to embrace the

edgy, laid back and youthful style that are

synonymous with that culture even though

weve grown up a bit! For this Russian

inspired collection we were very happy

THERE IS MORE TO ME THAN WHAT YOU SEE.to be working again with some of our

favourite skate influences like grunge and

boho - reinterpreting them to tell a new

story for us.

All Orb girls have stories to tell and

they like to dress the part, demanding

unique clothes that are fun and easy to

wear, ready to move in, offer fashionable

function and that fully express their cool

individuality. Taking the Russian doll

as our muse for Fall 14, weve created

a travel friendly lifestyle collection

inspired by the stories that help define

the heroines of her homeland the folk

tales, the Cold War Spy thrillers and the

romances of the Imperial Court!

Rich tapestries, embroidered with history, blend with

a modern boho chic and the uniform styling of the Old

Guard as the worldly Tsarina spins back in time.

Russian tales, like their beautiful folk art, may appear

very nave and simple at first glance but theyre actually

woven in such a bold style, with such strong themes

and colours, that they transform before your eyes

into something dramatic, elaborate and completely

compelling. Russias rich folklore tradition has survived

a Soviet ban and the cold war aesthetic to become

something that defines the very heart of Mother Russia.

This delivery is all about the wild women of Russian

fairytales and the Gypsy Fortune Tellers at the Imperial

court; it is the allure of wild, untamed hearts reaching

to us through time and our human need to believe in

something moresomething fantastical dancing at

the edge of the flames, something that would have the

power to transform and explain everything.

I have always loved creating whether it be knitting, sewing,

photography, or interior design (my former career) I have

always needed an avenue to explore color and texture and

form - it grounds me and brings me joy. I can usually be found

at home on the Canadian prairies, the Rocky Mountains on

the horizon, my kids running wild within earshot, a hot mug

of green tea nearby & a stack of colorful fabric or a bowl of

gorgeous yarn taking its place in my studio, in my hands or in

my mind, where my projects seem to take on a life of

their own.

With the Rocky Mountains on the horizon and a hot tea beside her, Tara fulfills her need to create by sewing with purpose, the noise of her family within earshot and the next project always on her mind.

I create these items for you to bring beauty, simplicity, color

and joy to your daily life. With the opening of my first online

shop in 2006, B is for Babe, I found a deeper joy for creating

that blossomed for many years. As my boys have grown

and Im no longer immersed in the world of babies and

their cloth diapers and knit woollies, the time has come to

evolve and Im beyond thrilled to focus now on my Etsy shop,

UpperCase B, where I can continue to sew and knit with

purpose.

THIS SEASON ORB HAS PARTNERED WITH TARA KLINGER OF UPPERCASEBTaras cheerful handsewn travel accessories are lovingly created in her home studio on the Alberta Prairies. Wed love to pack Taras unique items on our next trip and hope you will too!

PACKABLE Folds easily and rolls up small in a non-bulky, non-crushable way taking up less room in your luggage.

RAIN PROOF Fabrics that will resist the absorbtion of water thanks to their content or construction. These fabrics are great for light showers or dashes through the rain and are perfect for climates where you dont expect continued deluges!
