Seeking excellence in music, the orchestra has performed at prestigious venues such as the Seoul Arts Center and undertaken international concert tours to the United States (Carnegie Hall, NYC), Canada and China. With a commitment to enhance social inclusion for all people with disabilities, the orchestra communicates and connects with audiences from all walks of life. OSJ IN THE COMMUNITY
‘Connections’ Changing lives with the power of music
“We want to bring music of the highest quality to all, especially to those who may be unable to access it. The best must be there for all.” John Lubbock
About OSJ
• 70 workshop days a year for children and young people with autism
• Projects with refugees and the disadvantaged in our community
• Regular concert series at the Ashmolean Museum, Dorchester Abbey and Wigmore Hall
• Giving opportunities to young musicians regardless of background
• OSJ continues to deliver high quality performances demonstrating its commitment to musical excellence and enterprise. We promote inclusivity and diversity in music through our community outreach programme ‘Connections’, which engages with thousands of disadvantaged people each year in Oxford and beyond. In 2018 and 2019 we extended our partnerships in Oxfordshire and helped to increase our audiences by 50%. Our Music for Autism workshops reach over 6000 children in Special Educational Needs schools per year. We champion contemporary music; our composer in residence Toby Young won the Guardian/BBC Proms Young Composer of the Year.
OSJ’s mission is to serve the community in Oxfordshire with musical excellence.
We seek to break down barriers to arts participation. We inspire positive change
and engagement within the community. We are committed to building new
audiences for over 30 ticketed concerts per year including those who might not
otherwise attend a classical concert.
