Family Application: To aid in the discipleship of our families, during lunch today or dinner time, we encourage you to ask a few follow up questions to each other (& our kids in the service) about the sermon.

    1. What was most interesting from Sunday’s sermon? 2. Why do we need to test the things we hear about God? 3. What is one way you can live confidently in God this week

because we know He is greater than the evil in the world? 4. If you could ask God one question from today’s sermon

    passage, what would it be?

    **Next week’s sermon passage: 1 John 4:7-21**

II. Our God is Greater (4:4-6)

Write our ____________________ in Christ in marble.

The cross of ______________________ is the most life-transforming reality in human history

  • Scripture Reading: John 9:40-10:6 (ESV) 40 Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains. 1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

Sermon Passage: 1 John 4:1-6 (ESV) 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

    Sermon Notes:

ABI: Truth of God is highlighted in what we __________________ about Jesus. So test what you hear & have confidence of God’s overwhelming victory.

    I. Spiritual Discernment (1 John 4:1-3)

Test to see what is ______________________ and what is a counterfeit gospel.

The __________________________ used for testing the spirits to see if its from God is a confession!
