Chapter OneWhispers in the Darkness

Most boys looked forward to their birthdays and dread returning to school; Harry Potter is notmost boys. This is because Harry Potter is no normal boy either. Fourteen years ago an evilperson by the name of Lord Voldemort came to the place Harry and his parents lived andkilled Lily and James Potter but when he came to Harry his curse seemed to rebound anddestroy himself. This was when a man named Rubeus Hagrid was ordered to retrieve Harryfrom the rubble of his familys home and take him to the Dursleys who were his only livingrelatives and had no magical blood in them at all. You see, Harry Potter is a wizard. Andever since that fateful night Halloween, fourteen years ago, Harry has been stuck with an auntand uncle who detest him and a cousin who bullies him but at least now, unlike the firstnine years of his life, he could bear with his retched family because he only had to spend twomonths of the year with them.

The rest of the year he spent at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with his

two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. With his Gryffindor Friends,Quidditch, Feasts, Balls and Lessons. This was the reason he was sat at his desk in the

smallest room in number four, Privet Drive doing his homework from his Transfigurationteacher Professor McGonagall.

The sun shone onto his parchment as he thought about Various Animagi of this century,their chosen form, markings and history, Professor McGonagall had said that a big portion offifth year would be taken up on the study of Animagi. After sucking his quill for a minute he

continued to write

Lorelei Papillon was born in 1964 in Prague to a Muggle woman and herWizard husband. A shy yet beautiful girl she was considered to be the mostdesired of her nine sisters. She was also well known in Prague for being highly

intelligent. After studying at The Beauxbatons Academy Ms. Papillon took upthe job as Transfiguration teacher, a post previously held by Madame Olympe

Maxime who then became headmistress. This was when Ms. Papillon lookedinto becoming an Animagus. She

But Harrys thought train was cut short by a booming voice that rattled the very floorboardshe stood on, including the loose one under his bed in which he kept many of his wizarding

items.BOY! BOY GET DOWN HERE NOW! roared the unmistakeable voice of his Uncle

Vernon. Harry scuttled down the stairs and realised what Uncle Vernon was so furious about.He was stood, his face turning so purple it looked like a huge bruise, as he pointed to

what looked like a battered old grey feather duster and a flying tennis ball both of which

where lying limply in Uncle Vernons salad (Everyone was still on Dudleys diet).Recognising the duster as Errol and the tennis ball as Pigwidgeon, both of whom were

owls belonging to the Weasley family, he quickly scooped them both up and scooted back upto his room.

He first untied the package Pigwidgeon had been carrying from round the little owlslegs and perched him in Hedwigs empty cage, as she had recently been sent with a letter toHermione. Opening the package he broke into a smile. It contained a stack of comic booksentitled The Adventures of Martin Miggs: The Mad Muggle as well as a letter from Ron.

Dear Harry,How are you? Im doing fine. I thought that you might be bored at

home all summer with only those Muggles for company so I have sent you someissues of my favourite comic I didnt know if you already had any so Ive sent

you some of the funniest ones just in case (I hope you get them, I dont knowwhether Pig will make it all the way to your house with the weight of them).

The main news is Ive been made a prefect!!!! Me! Mum was deadchuffed because she thinks theres going to be another Head Boy in the familybut I doubt that, I didnt even want to be a prefect.

Harry knew that this was a lie and that all Ron wanted to do was to follow in the footsteps ofhis brothers, but he also knew that Ron would never admit this.

So if youre made a prefect too then we might be able to get back at Malfoyand the Slytherins. Im sure you will all the teachers love you, well exceptSnape but he doesnt like anyone does he? Percy says that each year fourprefects are chosen for each house for the new fifth years and that they arechosen by the heads of the other three houses and the fourth one byDumbledore. Dumbledores bound to choose you Harry, Im sure of it.

Anyway enjoy the comics; Ill have to send you your birthday present soon

(Mum wouldnt let me yet).

Harry smiled at the thought of it. He, Harry Potter, a prefect, he liked the idea of being ableto put Malfoy in his place. He sat on his bed imagining the look on Malfoys face as he tookfifty points from Slytherin.

He began to open his next letter expecting to find that Ron had forgotten to putsomething in his first letter but to his surprise he found it was not from Ron at all.

Dear Harry,First of all we have to say thanks for the money you gave us last

year, we still cant get over it. But we have put it to good use, havent weGeorge? Yes Fred. We have already put down the money for a joke shop in

Hogsmeade for next year. And bought Ron new dress robes. As well as a fewother things that we wont tell you about yet.

Dad says hes glad were not going into The Ministry now because of allthe fuss Cornelius Fudge is causing. He seems to want to ignore the fact thatyou-know-who is back. But you said it scared you too the other night George.Shut up Fred! Anyway Dad and Percy keep on having big arguments over thestate of The Ministry and Dad nearly quit last week! But he didnt.

We have some money left over so we used some of it to buy you this as aThank You. Its called a Poppins Box and you can fit as much as you wantinto it and it wont become full. The item cant weigh more than the person

using the box though, so no elephants because it wont work (weve tried).

P.S. Katie got Head Girl, she told George last week.

He looked at the little box that looked to be around twenty centimetres by ten centimetres andonly around five centimetres thick. He wondered whether Fred and George were platinganother joke on him.

He took the entire stack on Martin Miggs comics (all of which were bigger than the boxin surface area) and tried to put them into the box. When his hand approached the box its lidopened and it widened snatching the comic books from Harrys hand like a hungry animal.

Harry then reached inside and felt nothing, had he just lost all of Rons comic books? Whatwould Ron say?! He tried again but this time concentrating on the thing he wanted to pullout and he could instantly feel them.

Harry was feeling a bit tired by now and, even though it was only dusk, Harryclimbed into bed. Not forgetting to open his window first in case any other owls decided tostop by. Then he slowly drifted off into a deep sleep.
